What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

I had similar issues few years back and it turned out the passenger side bearing was dead!
Hope you get it sorted mate.

my old bus on the second day of ownership and its been downhill ever since..lol

A4rt

Today, had car up in the air trying to find out which front wheel bearing is noisy - But failed dismally as I can't find any play or looseness in them at all. If you drive along, from around 35ish onward, start to hear a steady droning sound - it's not particularly loud & doesn't change if I declutch & knock it into neutral it's just 'there'. It also doesnt seem to change if I steer from side to side (the usual way to differentiate If its Left or Right). Maybe not a wheel bearing? Any ideas anyone? :frown new:

Could be your brakes and rotors. Especially if your rotors are really worn down. How do they look? Are your tires bald? Road noise from bad tires are also possible.

And i'm still hankering after a set of these alloys...….they just keep chipping away at me everytime I see the pic.

BTW whilst I was draining the ICs yesterday I had a quick look at the snub mount I replaced couple of years ago with the Audi 2.5 one I think and it's totally fine so what went wrong with your one Rob?

I replaced my original oem bung because it fell apart, cant remember what I did after that, I recal fitting an A6 bung or something but whatever I did in the end its been fine.

Rob, there's nothing wrong with your existing wheels mate.

Nope your spot on chap , but there is this darn 20" A8/S8 itch nagging at me, everytime I see that pic , I just want those alloys.....maybe I should just delete the pic and be shot of the idea..

Just delete the pic mate.
Yes I do recall we both replaced with the snub mount with the A6 2.5 at the same time but you had issues or maybe I'm mistaken, okay all is well then.

Rob is that an 80 series landcruiser behind your bus in the top pic ?

Yep , trusty landcruiser ….I don't use it much these days and it sadly needs a bit of work doing to it.
fully kitted out though with a heavy duty warn winch , bull bar bumper ,raised suspension etc and uprated , snorkel ….well the lot really.

I think what I did was inject a lot of waterproof grease in and around the bung to make it work better, or something like that, but its been fine since whatever I did..lol

Treat the old girl to a comprehensive detail today all ready for my holiday this weekend. I cant go away with a dirty car!

looks spanking alex , you just need to change those 80mm black tips for some lovely 90mm polished stainless slash cut jobbies.....:icon thumright:

I pm'd you back re the tips Alex...i'll stick them in classified if no use to you.

Changed over the H7’s to Philips Xtreme for dipped and Racing vision for High beam.

A bit fiddly to do without removing too much. You can see the difference in colour with just the High beams changed and the OEM dipped in.

good job you don't have xenon then chap, that's a real pain in the rear area to do...

Don't get me started on that topic haha

Yep, I thought of you straight away chap...….but you are not alone, I wasn't overly impressed with how poor access is and how awkward the xenon's replacement is.

Is it a bumper off and headlight out job?

I’d love to retro fit some OEM HID’s but they’re serious monies... for now old school halogen will do.

It can be done without a bumper off/ headlamps out but you need small hands and be able to twist them in impossible angles, that said I have large hands and did manage to swap my xenons and side lights to led's in situ, there's a knack to it really.
But if that fails you need to remove bits to do it, the nearside is the problematic side the drivers side is much more user friendly....

Ive not done anything to the avant today, the avants done all the work, dragging a metric sh*t tonne of stuff and toys away for the weekend. 40mpg average on the journey, so not bad with all the extra drag. Its nice to have some rear suspension back though now shes unloaded!

So today -

I’ve stripped out all unnecessary weight for the road trip to wales for the WRC, given her a damn good clean and installed some nice new pressed plates.

Annoyingly the pressed plates come with a black line that doesn’t go all the way to the edge... 10 mins later with a sharpie and this was all sorted.

WRC here I come!!! Taking Quattro back to its birth event!

What engine are you rocking Alex? 40mpg is something I can only dream of from my
2.0 TFSI Quattro! Best I’ve had is 26mpg of mixed driving!

Hey fella, Do you also transport lead around with all your windows down and drag an anchor behind?

I normally manage around 28mpg around town and 35-38mph on the m’way on a long run. And I’m normally loaded up with tools and materials.

Hahaha! No - cars usually empty!

26 was me trying real hard to drive economically. I’ve got a small blow from the exhaust which I know won’t be helping!

It is an Auto..... so that might make the difference! :(

2.0 tfsi 220hp fwd buddy, had around 45-46 ish on the last run down here but thats without the bike and a little less weight on board. On my 7mile comute to work on a mix of 30, 40 and 50mph roads i can squeeze about 36 on a good day if i drive like a nun!

I'm afraid to say chaps, but if these 2.0tfsi cars were made to be economical on the fuel front they would have fitted something else under the bonnet....lol,
I am happy to loose a few mpg if it means the car performing the way it was designed too, kinda defeats the object of buying the car to start with if you are going to pootle around saving every drop of fuel.
just my input on a dreary Thursday evening.

It took a little getting used to for me at first as my previous moter did about 50 mpg everywhere! That being said i love my old avant whether it does 20 or 40 mpg. Smiles per miles as it were, but these are heavy cars and quattro kills it even more unfortunately
