My newly-acquired 2017 MY Sportback 1.4tfsi Sport has a removable panel on the left side of the boot. The void behind it is not trimmed, and it does not contain anything. Is there something that should go in here? I can’t see that I will use this for storage because things will just rattle around, and small items will get lost into the nooks and crannies of the bodywork. On some earlier Sportbacks I have seen a netted cubby hole with no cover in this location. Could this be retrofitted?

TIA

Mike

A picture might help. In my 2017 S3 saloon the left side has a cubby, plastic compartment so to speak also next to the cigarette lighter. Right side has a removable panel with some wiring there, I keep a few bits like ice scraper etc in it.

I have the same as you on my sportback, I have a tight fitting bag of bits and pieces in there out of view and quite like it.
My last A4 (B8) had the net over the cubby hole you describe but think it came as part of the storage pack I specified. I found that nothing really stayed put,so prefer the out of sight option. I think the net option may be a complete side panel rather than the removable section we have, have a look on a parts diagram you might find what you want there.

Thanks Adam, that’s helpful. I was wondering if I was missing something, or if there was an optional extra which went in the “hole”, but it sounds like yours is the same as mine.

The netted cubby hole came as part of the "storage compartment pack" or something I think - perhaps along with nets on the backs of the front seats etc. If you didn't add that pack, at least in my 2013 Sport sportback, you got the empty closed compartment with the lid as you've described.

I keep quite a bit in there, carefully packed to stop it rattling. The first aid kit is at the bottom, I've got some a set of hex drive screwdriver bits in there, and a tyre inflator wrapped in bubble wrap on top of the first aid kit. I can't remember what else, but I think I've also got an old takeaway tub with spare fuses, electrical tape, etc. in it.

Having said that, I half wish I'd specced the netted recess as my wife's guitar doesn't fit in the boot without dropping a back seat, and I think that recess might be all it needs to get it to fit!

Either way, I don't think you're missing anything from yours.

Yes it is the storage pack - came with netted area in boot with 12v socket, nets of the back of the front seat, and a little net in the passenger foot well.

The little net in the passenger footwell makes me laugh ... what on earth would anyone put in that ? :haha:

Thanks to all guys for the info. It’s all clear to me now. I expect Audi would want an arm at at least one leg for the aftermarket boot cubby, so I guess I’ll just live with what I’ve got and find some suitable containers to fit the space.

I too have the same void behind the panel in the boot. I don’t keep anything in there though, that’s what the boot is for.
