So my daughter picked a new A3 1.5 s-line Black edition on wednesday. She rings me today saying she is sick of the front parking sensors bleeping when in stop start traffic, she has parking plus.
Is this a change on the facelift as on my PFL S3 with parking plus, I have to press the switch to activate the fronts, or put it in reverse.

FL vehicles have parking sensor object detection activated from the factory, when the car is under 10mph (I believe). This can be turned off via VCDS and alike, and activated on PFL vehicles.

You can also temporarely turn it off through your MMI

She could leave more space between her and the car in front? To me it sounds like she’s sitting too close, as I usually leave about a metre between me and the car in front, and have rarely triggered the sensors

So your immediate response is to suggest that its her fault!! wow.
It was actually people cutting into the gap she left or moving across from one lane to another.
Notice you also say "Rarely" so you also do the same and I wanted a technical answer not criticism

Thank you @DJAlix that was exactly what I wanted to know

Jesus, calm down.

Rarely = one or twice when trying to clear a junction or make way for emergency services.

To be fair bud your first post said about them activating in stop start traffic, so this would imply the gap being left is too small.
Let's keep things civil though, eh?

Jeeeze no need to be rude bud. People are just putting out suggestions from the information you’ve provided. Sounds like to me she’s not leaving a big enough gap and is very close to the car in front. Another reason could be faulty front parking sensors however I’ve never had this issue before So don’t know.

My front sensors have never gone off in traffic so assume the FL needs to be put into reverse to activate them, unless that changed more recently.
The only way I can think that this would happen would be moving an auto selector in and out of park through reverse whilst stopped - instead of just leaving it in drive.

I was under the impression there's a button you press to activate them on FL so no need to go in reverse, although maybe going in reverse automatically activates them as well

The front sensors are activated when you go into reverse. There is a button but I don't think that I've ever pressed it. You'd only really need to do that if you were driving straight into a parking space and couldn't judge where the front end was. Mine certainly don't go off automatically when driving straight into a space like that, even a foot away from a solid wall, so they definitely won't go off in traffic.

The display on the MMI is nice to have, but can't say that I ever really use them in anger and wouldn't bother speccing parking plus again.

On the FL the front sensors turn automatically on when your are really close to an object. Like 20cm or closer. No need to push the button. Standard on all FL with front sensors.
