Hi Guys

I've just bought an A7, bitdi with google maps and was wondering what was the best option for a SIM card? I have no idea how much data I'll be using and could do with some recommendations. Thanks!

I use a 3 data only sim, its 12GB, and valid for 12 months

I use a 3 sim I purchase via the bay.
It's preloaded with 24gb or something along those lines and usually does me fine for the year with spotify streaming too

I too use 3, whatever number of GBs on Amazon valid for 12 months

Thanks guys. I put the sim in this morning but now can't seem to use my phone via the Bluetooth connection as the MMI seems to think the sim is for phone calls. ...any ideas?

There is an option in the telephone menu to select in-car SIM or Bluetooth connection for calls.

Sorry to be a pain RAF - could you let me know exactly where this is in the settings please. I've just been scrolling through for 10 minutes and can't find it anywhere!

Have a look at the “ Newbie with an S7” posting in the group....

What year is your fee and what's your MMI version number?

As I recall it the older MMI versions don't have that menu option and needs to be upgraded.

I came from a 2014 A7 to the 2016 S7, so have used both versions of the MMI.

In both I used the Car SIM for Audi Connect, and the Bluetooth connected phone for calls, texts etc.

The option to select which SIM to use for calling is definitely in both, but may be in a different sub menu.

You can access your online manuals via the my.audi portal, including full the MMI guide which is searchable. May be a good place to start, since the manual your presented with is matched to whatever VIN you used when setting up your my.audi account.

I had this the other day and still working on it.
Check mmi version and need updating to K0900 then k0942 don’t jump straight to k0942 as misses adding this option in.

Also, sorry to hijack but with the sim in should it ask me each time I start the car if ok to use the data as some carriers may charge? It’s everytome I go on nav or connect.

so I was right, the MMI version matters.

re. your other question - it asking to connect each time - there's an option in the MMI under phone, options, to enable the data connection without asking.

I upgraded my MMI firmware took about 45 mins

Depending on your data usage, three do a Data Reward sim that gives you 200mb each month for ‘life’. Just top up a tenner when you get it and that’s it.

https://3g.co.uk/three-data-reward-sim

I’ve been using one in my A4 MMI since last November and it’s never had any problems with live traffic data or google maps.

I initially bought a 12gb/12 month sim as the helpful people in the Three shop wrongly told me the data reward only works if you keep buying top ups.

Yes mmi is meant to make a dif.

I’ve got a 15gb at £12 a month from Voda attaches to my phone contract.

Oh I know where you mean, connect if requested but?

If your new to the MMI system, this is worth watching (This is a pre facelift car so original MMI version)

That options not there on my 13 A7. I’ve upgraded to k0942 but didn’t do 0900 and I have been told that options in there.

Any ideas how to roll back?

I’ve never up/down graded the MMI software, so can’t help you there, sorry.

I do know that any self upgrades come with a heath warning that you do at your own risk as it can brick the whole MMI unit.

Good luck :salute:

Upgrades simple. A5oc forums have a fantastic guide, but yes it can go wrong.

It the downgrad I’m unsure about... really need to switch this option on as kind pointless having the sim
Install ed

It's 2013 - MMI details on above post

From what I’ve read on this a5 forum. That’s factory standard. Need to update to k0900 for the Option then k0942 for the latest available.

one thing I forgot to mention was the 'green menu'. I think there's a setting in there that enables the said menu option.

To check, go in to the green menu (hold down car+menu for 6-7sec) and navigate to diagnose/settings/tel_settings and see if NAD operation mode is enabled, if not enable it check if the option comes up on the MMI menu.

all this is off my rusting memory so may not be accurate

MMI upgrade itself is a bit more tricky, u have to find the sw from Audi or from a 3rd party, then there's a procedure to follow to upgrade. I haven't done this myself, my Audi dealer was nice enough to do it for me when I explained my data vs phone problem.

Do you then need to set the NAD to a value between 1-10?

I was playing in the green menu yesterday for battery level and trying to work out the value.

I got a copy of the MMI firmware, was very easy to upgrade as long as you follow the instructions

Thanks for all the advice guys! ..no green menu for me as I don't have VAGCOM to activate it (I believe that's needed?)

Where is the best place to get the firmware upgrade? ...I'm assuming audi charge heftily for it as with everything else!

Check the a5oc link above will let you do it without green menu if you get modified one

Ok, so I've upgraded the firmware but still loose my Bluetooth hands free connection as soon as I put the SIM card in and have no option that I can see to choose between the two :/

Checked the green menu thingy?
