PFL to FL Dynamic Taillights conversion guide

These adapters will make your original rear lights semi dynamic and are not needed if you change your lights to the 2017 dynamic lights, absolute waste of money better off doing the upgrade!

Especially when the same thing can be done with VCDS / Carista / OBD.

You get pace car lights with obd devices.
You get semi dynamic modules for £65
You get dynamic modules for £300
You can buy inexpensive plugs and wire it yourself ( if you know what your doing)

I did my conversion using this guide but I used the 12v supply in the boot rather than using the fusebox. However I offset my fuse to make this a permanent live beforehand, so I still have sweeping lights without ignition, it works a treat and saved a significant amount of time during installation.
Could you please be more explicit on how did you offset your fuse to have the 12v supply in the boot have constant power? I already wired all the tail lights to it, but need it to be permanent.

I took a permeant feed from the fuse box to the rear of the car.

@Dan Halen You mind posting the PFL NAR coding here or PM me? Getting quite a few asking for the coding, thanks!

Hey @DJAlix Do you need any coding for PFL halogen to PFL LED taillights? I see the wiring is pretty similar, should just work right? Thanks!

Hi, I have just bought a 2019 A3 Sport Limo, with standard taillights.
I am looking into swapping them into Dynamic LED taillights.
Since this post describes fitting them on a PFL - I wonder if anyone know what it will take to fitt them on a FL?

You will need coding for them which I am trying to get hold of as I have the LED to convert to.. You can get the adapters for these lights of a place called audiamnt (Google it, German based) great guys there if you got the coding for the LED can you share??

Jonjo.

Just found out the 3 door model has a different connector on the inner lights. They have 4 pins…

As i don't have elsawin… Can somebody be so kind to update the list?

@larbel Just purchased a set of these lights, where did you purchase your connectors from? Cant seem to find them all in one place!

Go on Google and type in Audimant they are a german company get the conversion harness cost about 130 euros... What year is your audi?

Yeah I’ve seen the conversion kits but they’re all about €300.. there’s no way I’ll be paying that for a couple of connects and a few wires haha. It’s a 2016 RS3

Yeah I was the same, but then seen a place here is the link https://www.szekat.de/au/ about 130 euro for the connectors but give them an email they will help you out aswell.

I have the A3 standard but has extras like heated seats etc.. Just after modifying it.

Cheers Jonjo.

I got most the connectors from my local supplier, but they can be find pretty cheap at e-acca or allcarpartsfast … Definitely not 130 or 300 euro...

Yeahhh tried local suppliers and was gonna do swap over, but no one had the pins for me or connectors. So had to order them

@Jonjo_devon are you talking about the semi dynamic connectors? Can’t see any connectors for less than €470 for the FL dynamic conversion connectors

Sorry mate, I thought you needed PFL not FL...
Wonder if you got by doing this on the cheap with some sort of timed relay?

The ‘dynamic’ part is in the headlight according to the guide by @larbel. I’m an electrical engineer by trade so should be fine in getting this wired up :yahoo:

Thanks for that website too @larbel managed to find the parts in one place!

Hello, my sportback 2015 has first gen led tail lights. For dynamic conversion do the same like you did?
The diagrams are the same?
Could you upload the diagrams for sportback too?
Thanks in advance
Nick

Greetings,

I'm facing a weird situation here :
I have a 2015 A3 8V Sportback PFL and wanted to retrofit to FL dynamic lights.
The thing is : on the new outer left light, I only have 4 pins wired into the connector.

On the other side of this connector (connected to light motherboard), I also have only 4 wires instead of the 5 expected

I cannot match the new FL pins with my existing PFL ones.

For this particular light, the ETKA number is 8V4 945 091 A.
Any mistake with that ?

Need HELP please !!!
George

You need to buy a set of modules from k electronics, they have the correct adapters to link to your pfl harness, they are £300, without them you can’t get them to plug in or give the dynamic sweep, unless you get someone to do the wiring which isn’t to easy, @DJAlix does it

Thank you for your quick answer RedS3Reilly.
I asked K-Electronic for compatibility.

What is really don't understand is that the tutorial at the beginning of this thread mentions at least 5 wires on the outer lamp but the one I bought has only 4.

Just wanted to make sure I bought the right ones.
Thanks

Yes you’ve bought the correct lights, the new fl
ones have different plugs on them, the two options are to get someone that knows how to do adapt the wiring or the easy option is to buy the modules( plug & play)
I personally bought the k electronics ones, 2 mins to fit

Are you in US? You bought the NAR version of the light... You can make it work but it’s different from this guide, and I’m not sure if yours has dynamic function or not since earlier NAR version aren’t dynamic? And the turn signal will flashes with the brakes...
