Carista or OBDEleven...

VCDS is the best option to be honest, i used VCDS for years but bought OBDELEVEN recently.. i dont like it or fully trust it.. the problem being you dont know what the 'apps' are doing (that you pay for).. ive now bought VCDS again and at least i can keep track of things changed etc (although it keeps a change log anyways)

its not that hard to use, and the instructions online for coding are easy to understand when you have the software and cable in front of you.

Carista has next to no options for the B9 (you can request to be put on the beta by the developer to be able to see what there is).

With OBDeleven you can do some things with one click via purchasable credits, but you may be better off paying the extra for the pro version of the app where you can do long coding.

Reviving old thread
Think there are 2 types
Also something about buying credit?
Any links of where folks are buying the obdeleven from?

Still can't get ODBeleven to work with B9 S4 MY18 built week 21.

Still going round the houses with the developer.... I'll update if resolved.

Strange it works with my my18 granted its a a4 and not a s4...

Was it brand new or ex demo etc

I had a loan a5 which i plugged the dongle into and it wouldnt connect etc. I presumed the dealer had done something to the obd port to stop key coding etc...

I have ordered the Pro pack as it is only £56.74 now. Should arrive either end of this week or beginning of next. Looking forward to making some changes...

Yes will do, also need to read any fault codes that might have been recorded by the recent drive error message I had come up...

I've had an OBD11 for probably 2 plus years, I've coded stuff on my previous RSQ3, my wife's A1 and the current MY2018 RS4 - works perfectly. Unless something has changed it only works with Android devices - perfect for me as the only apple items in this household are entirely edible.

It's worth noting that each time you open the OBD11 app it adds one credit to your account for free. As most functions you would wish to use are 10 credits then it's a low cost approach.

I get 200 credits with this pack and I cannot stomach even the edible fruit. Android has always been my choice of home tablet/phone, unless at work then it has to be windows based...

I picked mine up when they were on sale (just as they went on sale). Not used the 200 credits as there aren’t many quick apps for my model but done some long coding with the pro features. Had to get myself an android tablet though as I’m an apple guy so went for a 10” gps tablet and now I’ve got a massive sat nav too!

What things were worth coding on the RSQ3?

Just another thing to note. You can get 6 credits per day for OBDeleven.

1 for opening and another 5 for watching 10 to 30 second adverts.

Top left 3 line menu

Wallet
"+" Symbol bottom right
""Get free credit"

I have 200+ saved up now.

This has been a question I've been meaning to ask so glad I stumbled on this thread. OBDeleven seems the better of the cheaper options by the looks of it. I like the idea of it but i'm not really sure what i'd change with it on my b9 other than making changes just cause I could. Anyone made much changes to their b9?

The app is free to install and set up.

So install it, set up an account and plum in your car details. You can then go to the app section in the app and see exactly what OBDeleven can do for your car the easy way(using credits). Obviously you just can't apply them till you buy the dongle part to connect the app to your car.

You can also start saving up credits while you wait for the dongle, if you decide to make the purchase.

I don't know of any adaptation lists for the B9 sorry.

But at its cost and if nothing else it can give you a full scan of every module witj all fault codes for your car as well as reset them. It does make VCDS look like utter overkill and a complete rip off for the casual user.

Install OBDeleven, you have nothing to lose by looking.

Ahh Good shout, I never thought of that. Looking at the list below I doubt i'll bother with it but i'll download the app and rack up some credits when bored just incase.

Ahh nice one.
Being honest the only thing i'd change on the list is disabling the stop start function. Most of it just seems like you would be making changes just for the sake of it and that it would't really make much of a difference or be noticeable. Nice to have the option to make changes though.

It also depends upon which options are fitted to the car from the factory. At the moment the first thing I'll do is have the rearlights on with the DRL's as I feel that is a safety issue.
Then I will look at the list and see, start stop isn't a major one for me as, if I don't wish it to kick in, I put the gearbox into sportmode...

Curious as to why you see it as a safety issue? forget to put your lights on in the dark often?

I've got a manual so just got to push the button but would save 0.05 of second every drive of the car not pushing the button haha.

I have auto lights so no problem putting them on, however the light sensor tells me to put them on if I haven't done so already.
Like the front drl's I feel the rear lights being on does give more warning off my car to other road users. Plus new cars are built with this feature anyway...

not overly impressed with the needle sweep on VC, looks a lot better on analogue

I'd be worried if other drivers can't see a 2 tonne lump of metal in front of them in broad daylight :tearsofjoy:
Its each to their own but I think the DRLs have been a step backwards in safety as now more than ever you see people driving around at night with only their DRLs on none the wiser as the road infront of them is lit up. Drives coming towards them don't flash as the front is light up but their rear is pitch black. Your solution of having them on all the time front and back does make it idiot proof though(in no way a dig at you). Too much tech in cars these days, young drivers expect cars to do everything automatically for them now :tearsofjoy:
Sorry for going off topic, OBDeleven now installed fir the future.

That would be a good feature but never seen it on the list for the b9, needles have got to be analogue digital just isn't the same

Drivers with only the drl's on at night at least stand a chance of being seen, unlike the ones I see with no lights what so ever at nightime. There is no excuse for ignorance though. I once had a cyclist drive into the back of my car for no reason so I maybe just reducing the risk...

It has arrived, don't know when I'll get around to using it though. Perhaps when the weather has warmed up a bit:

Just a warning, your first scan might scare you with lots of faults.

Look at them and reset them. It's only the ones that come back after you have driven the car for a week that need attention.

Thanks for the heads up, yes this is what I planned to do. I had a drive malfunction come up the other day that disappeared when I rebooted the engine. Just be interested to see if there's anything related to this recorded..

@cuke2u The first change I did was exactly the same as you, scandinavian drl's so the rears are on, i totally agree that its safer and in my opinion it looks a lot better too :)

I also did the beep on lock and unlock, I prefer that audible confirmation and extended the time to press to open the boot. I have the start / stop disabled too just because it annoyed me and I prefer not to need to knock it into Sports.

Unless you really know what you're doing, I would strongly advise to go for the OBDeleven as the provided Apps all work safely and most only cost 10 credits which you can obtain free over two days worth of watching some short ads.

The changes I have made on my car are:

Interior lights - all on with door opening rather than just the relevant one.
Lock/Unlock - Acoustic confirmation.
Boot open with remore control - increased to two seconds button push as I was always accidentally opening it before. It was almost worth buying for that feature alone.
Needle sweep - my dash is analogue.
Rear DRLs on - I agree with cuke2u.
Mirror dip - I have to say that didn't actually work for me and I wonder if it's only for left hand drive vehicles.
Comfort turn signals - I increased the number of flashes from the default 3 to 4.

I have a lot of free credits on my unit so, if anyone who lives near me would like to make a few changes to their vehicle, please PM me and we'll get something sorted out.

That's good to hear the apps only cost about 10 credits. My £56 pro pack version has 200 credits so I should be able to do what I need to...

Yes, most cost 10 credits with a very few costing 100. As I mentioned already, it's easy to earn more by just watching a few ads.

All was setup yesterday, no issues with configuring it to my tablet through Bluetooth. There were two engine related issues, one was turbo pressure related, unsurprisingly, and the other engine over rpm, which is a bit weird. Anyway cleared them all out and have set the rear lights to be illuminated.
Will probably look at it again in a couple of weeks or so and see if anymore faults are detected...

I re-enabled this over the weekend now I have a seat memory controller fitted on the drivers seat and it works now for me :)
