Long delays for new orders due to WLTP emissions testing

You might win then Zippytoo ‘cos I’ve seen a spreadsheet floating about here on the forum that suggests that A4 S-Line Avant’s may start production again in Week 41. So hopefully I might get my first ever Audi this year. I’m not holding my breath though!

Winner definitely, that's just absurd.
It’s certainly taking the shine off my first ever new Audi! If it wasn’t for the fact that I got a very good monthly deal (at least £100 cheaper than a C Class Merc) I would have told them where to place the order some time ago!

Definitely, the 3.2% APR on offer at the time I ordered (9th April) cushions the blow a bit.

Phoned up dealership on Friday, they said they'd contact Audi to find out my exact order status but got the indication I was still all good for 28th September delivery.

Logged into my portal today, delivery date now showing as 31st July 2019.

Let's just say I am currently following this up...

Personally I would take out the reference about lack of preparedness in testing / certifying, quite rightly they may well feel they aren't responsible and instead all you'll get defensive reply about it.

So I will stand well back but please don't take it personally...

A fair point - I will amend so the message is purely factual (from a customers point of view) and avoid references to the root cause and who's fault it may / may not be... I do think Audi are somewhat behind the WLTP curve - for example, BMW's entire range was WLTP compliant by April.

I also wonder how long the MY18 A4 will remain on the configuration - somewhat unusual for a company to invite you to specify a product that you cannot actually buy..!

Welcome status

Still on welcome stage....no date

Indeed. Following today's news I've cancelled my order and asked my dealership to offer an alternative car that they have in stock at the same price. If that's a 3 series (he said they had stock) I'll take it, and I never previously considered a beamer over an Audi.

BMW weren't involved in any diesel scandal, which meant all the VAG vehicles being retested under the old criteria and they didn't have their CE arrested in front of all the Audi office staff.
Strange why, if BMW have completed these tests that in June fleet many fleet orders couldn't be placed, I quote from another forum: "BMW are also badly affected by this - our fleet supply is heavily affected at the moment - we still have cars coming through that we secured at the end of last year, but haven't been able to order much at all in the last 3 months."
BMW also suggested that the manufacture of many models might temporarily be halted in May and this might last a few months https://www.autovistagroup.com/news-and-insights/wltp-causes-production-concerns-manufacturers
I am not making excuses for what may be perceived as incompetence by VAG and Audi but to suggest that the delays are just down to the new tests is, I feel, simplifying the argument

It's easy to get frustrated at the dealership (and for sure they could potentially do more in terms of chasing up orders) however given all of us are experiencing the same problems after going through various channels then it's abundantly clear that Audi have screwed this up big time.

I'm beginning to think this could be a bigger embarrassment for Audi (and VAG in general) than Dieselgate. It's having more of a noticeable effect at the consumer end.

The Bavarians must be loving this...

It's surely going to impact market share significantly if they can't produce these volume models AND the halo models (of the volume models!) for months let alone the cost to them as a business for not shifting anywhere near the volume of cars they normally would. The silence surely means this is by no means a good situation. BMW, Volvo and Merc must be laughing their socks off

Unfortunately BMW were stating that they may be in a similar situation and fleet owners were unable to order certain models with BMW suggesting in March they would have to temporarily halt production of certain models in May to meet the other RDE portion of the tests. Yes they may have completed the WLTP part but there are two parts to this new test. https://www.autovistagroup.com/news-and-insights/wltp-causes-production-concerns-manufacturers
Confusing isn't it when manufacturers state they've competed the WLTP tests when they've not yet completed it all.

Is there a possibility that I win the competition for the longest order time without an update? ....

Looks like you were just before me, my order was the 16th Feb, but the one I have ordered has a WK3 build date, so will be behind you at this rate. Luckily I have a 67 plate sline avant 190 until mine is ready, or I change my mind

Took this from another site - struck a chord.......

Rest assured for a car company to stop production it is the very last extreme option, for a car company NOT to accept a customers money! They knew this was coming for years.....

They will have technical issues adhering with the new test process and this is a PR cover up. The plan would have been to cheat but of course they were found out so that is now not an option.

Hi, do you have a build week ? As you say WK3 above. I also ordered in April, but it was the 190 BE Stronic, and no build week, still on the "thanks for the order welcome to ingolstadt page"..... Dealer says build weeks should start to be seen from 1st week in Sept , week commencing 3rd but I aint got much reliability on that...
I think that the guys with the longest lead times seem to be the 1.4 TFI lines, which of course is now stopped / replaced for a 2.0 ..?

I've had the 1.4 Black Edition S-Tronic on order since mid May and I've been told the same as everyone else, the delay is due to WLTP. I've recently had an email from my lease company and they've said the following:

"We cannot get any A4 vehicles at all, the factory closes in August and without a build date before then we just cannot get hold of one for you. This is industry wide I am afraid, seems they ceased making the old model and moved over to the MY19, then this back up was further implicated by the WLTP.
I am afraid I just cannot get you an A4 prior to the end of this year"

They seemed to retract their statement in a later email about not being able to source one before the end of the year, presumably so they don't lose the sale, however I think its a mistake made by them and a good indicator that we wont be seeing any before Christmas!

My dealer has confirmed that they are now seeing build weeks being allocated for the A3, Q2 and Q7 so there is movement happening - just not with the A4 as yet! But at least something is happening.

@Simonwhite2000 where did you hear about the 1.4 being discontinued and that its being replaced with a 2.0? I've searched everywhere and cant find anything. (not complaining, just curious)

Have now completely cancelled my order and kind of wondering what to do now. Dealership offered to look for alternatives for me but haven't managed to send me a single suggestion/offer over the past week despite me repeatedly chasing them up, so sounds like good deals at the moment are thin on the ground.

Considering going back to Approved Used but that makes financing a bit less attractive.

Out of curiosity did they elude to if many people had cancelled?

Yes, a lot of people have cancelled by the sounds of things. I don't blame the dealership for the supply problems, but I am frustrated at the fact they don't seem to be particularly concerned about rectifying my situation. I guess they would rather I cancelled as it stops them making a loss on another car.

Looks like the one I uploaded here a few weeks ago. I wonder if any of those dates have slipped since....

For anyone who’s interested, someone put the Audi build week pdf in the link @Soot1e provided. Build weeks can also be seen at: https://www.epochconverter.com/weeks/2018
This is only a SOP weeek ( start of production ) depending where you are in the line and queue of back orders we could still be a few weeks off the SOP week number given .
For example my model of car starts production week 40 but not sure where my build week is yet until the dealer lets me know

The configurator still shows the MY18 setup, as does the online brochure, still no reference to the MY19 model on the website.
Starting to wonder if they are even going to bother. Reaching the point where I don't particularly care anymore.

Yeah, same here. I'll get my own back by delaying it to be a 19 plate!

I don't think you'll have to delay anything to get a 19 plate....

Test drove an Alfa Giulia Veloce today considering I might be waiting for so long I thought I’d see what else is about and in stock. Even went to see VW and they have a 2.0T 4motion Arteon R-line in stock that I could have next week if I wanted.

I assume if I cancel my order with Audi due to this ridiculous delay I’ll get my deposit back !?

DON'T go with the Alfa mate. Lovely looking and sounding, but will spend more time with them than you.
I would imagine you should have no issues getting deposit back, considering the delays, and no "current" end in sight.
