I've knocked up nearly 4,000 kms on her now and it revs more and sounds louder than it did on day 1.

My two complaints !

The rear parcel shelf makes far too much noise over bumps, my A3 2.0 TDI did this also - very annoying.

And the second one is to do with the speakers. When the radio is not too loud but there's a bit of bass coming through, there is an AWFUL noise coming through the right side speaker. I don't even know how to describe it but it almost sounds like distortion although the volume is only on the last notch before mute. It could be a blown tweeter but it's WRECKING my head and I'm bringing in to a dealer as soon as I get the chance.

If anyone can suggest a diagnosis let me know !

i have the parcel shelf bump too, which is highly annoying... is this something that can be sorted? I originally thought it was the spacesaver wheel....

I take it you have the bose upgrade on your speakers?

No I don't actually, wish I did, for this reason alone !

I assume the standard set up has some sort of tweeter ? The sound is deffo not the main speaker.

Will keep my ears open for the parcel shelf when mine arrives. You could try softening the "bump" by some felt-tape. Available from Audi. Something like that is trial and error though.

As for the speaker. Could it be something as simple as the speaker grill resonating? Maybe try spraying some silicone spray into the join-gaps etc. But you never know, maybe the speaker is blown, or maybe a loose connection.

The standard sound system is quite feeble compared to the Bose system, but I wouldn't expect distortion except at very high levels. Maybe one of the speaker units is loose, and buzzing.

I heard the BOSE system in a demo S3 and it is savage, deffo worth the extra £££.

The speaker case is secure, I've checked all the usual stuff.

bose = very very cool and excellent sound quality, very pleased with it

Agreed on the BOSE. No, it's not the last word in sound quality and a good aftermarket system would outperform it but, for what they charge, it's not half bad and if you like your music loud it'll make your ears bleed before it distorts :)

great - only had my car 1 month and was wondering what that random noise was....will sort it with velcro -- cheers:icon_thumright:

I have now driven 3400 km in my S3 and I don't get bothered by the parcel.

BOSE = Is great, so glad I added that to my car, worth the money.
No noise what I can hear of
