Rhyso's Family Wagon

Why have they left the RS6 grill in the bumper and masked it? Surely better to remove it

Great looking car. That's a helluva shine. What are you using to bring it up that gleaming?

Oh right. I probably won't copy that method of getting her gleaming then lol.

Yeah I did read that, but I didn't realise the bodywork had only just been done. See, every cloud has a silver lining - the paintwork is looking mint!

Hope she's back to her best after the engine work. How long will it take? Hope you've been given a nice courtesy car to run around in.

No i wouldn’t recommend it.....!

Went through an accident management company who clearly like to stretch things out so they can charge more for the courtesy car I had.....3 weeks of a Mercedes C220 at £300 per day....no wonder our premiums are so high!! Oh and I wouldn’t recommend a Merc. Certainly not that version. Terrible throttle response, jerky transmission, noisy etc etc. Really disappointed by it. Even driving mine home tonight, nursing it, it was so much nicer. But mine is a 6 pot compared to the Mercs 4 lol

Using a local garage so no courtesy car. Parts alone are £270.....tomorrow is going to be expensive. I would hope to have it back tomorrow but more likely Friday I’m guessing :(

Dear God!! £300 per day?!?! That's ridiculous. You can rent a BMW 3 Series for £50 a week. Shouldn't be allowed to get away with it, but it's been going on years.

I'll look forward to a happy post on Thurs/Fri when you've got her back running nicely.

Yup!! Plus delivery and collection fees.......

It’s absolutely scandalous in my opinion but there we go.....

Thank :) i just hope all this work actually cures the problem lol. If all goes well I’ll be ripping up some of my favourite roads this weekend :D

I paid £215 for the wheel.

Initially you pay £315 and then you will get £100 back when you send them your old wheel :)

Or you send them your wheel and just pay the £215 but obviously you can’t drive your car lol. Delivery was 2 weeks from date of order

The price may vary on what you want

I had black nappa leather all round
Chunkier grips
Flat bottom
Red stitching

RS style wheel without the RS tax :D And you know it will fit your car, airbag etc :)

I appear to be having no luck with the car at the moment......

A couple of weeks ago the following happened within the space of 48 hours....
1) picked up a lovely stone chip on the windscreen which will probably mean a new screen due the size
2) parked in a local car park when some old biddy in a C1 drives against the flow of traffic and hits me on the front of the bumper on the passenger side...amazingly there was no damage
3) putting my mates bike into the boot, the bike fell against the rear bumper and put a lovely scratch in it!

Then last week I dropped my car off for a DSG service......TPS initially sent up the wrong quantity of oil and when they did they forgot the oil filter...so that has been delayed until today

Also the shocks are past their best and could do with replacing......

In between this I've discovered an oil leak which the garage reckons could be possibly be coming from the timing case and either the engine or the gearbox needs to come out!!!

Literally want to sit in a corner and cry :(

Thanks lads

Picked the car up earlier after the DSG service so had a good chat to the owner (ex VW). At the moment the leak isn’t very severe and he has said to keep an eye on oil consumption. He thinks its a result of the leaking rocker cover gaskets causing excess pressure and thus causing the leak so it’s been a bit of a cascade effect :(

At a crossroads really as I love the car and if I get all the work done then I’ll keep it for a good few years. There’s nothing other than another A6 that I would want and to change to a newer model will cost more than the repairs and it will be hard to find one as well specced as mine

I’m going to sort the suspension first and go from there. If and when the engine comes out then I’ll get the timing chains etc done at the same time as it’s one lot of labour and I know it will be right for a good long time :)

Might start one of those crowd funding pages for the repairs lol

If you love the car then I suggest paying for the repairs and at least then you will know what's been done and there can't be much more to go wrong after that.
Seriously though it's not worth getting rid as the next one could have even more problems

Yup. And that’s my dilemma. I think it will be a case of ‘better the devil you know’ ;)

Hoping to order the suspension in the next few weeks; going for standard shocks and Eibach -30mm springs which sill only give me a 15mm drop but hopefully won’t ruin the ride quality :)

I've just done that exact fitment:
Sline shocks with Eibach springs... it improves the body roll SO well and still get that smooth ride, almost like it's untouched :sunglasses:

I could really do with some before and after lowering pics so I can try and show the Mrs how much better it will look. She is worried about the speed bumps in our estate and doesn't want to be one of the ******* that's has to go over them at 5mph lol

Wow there seems to be allot of engine ‘issues’ whats your current mileage on the car?

Fingers crossed they don’t find any more problems when they pull the engine!

Like you I cant think of anything else other than a A6 I would get if I were to have to replace mine... just such a good package.

That's the type of feedback I like to hear! Fingers crossed I'll be reporting the same in a few weeks......

Current mileage is 107,100; it's been mapped for the last 35,000 (basically 48 hours after I bought it!) Doing some searching and these sorts of issues can develop with a standard car so at least I'm having some fun lol

The engine won't be coming out for a while unless the leak gets severe. Garage advised me to keep an eye on the oil level. Chatting to a couple of mates and showing them the pictures of the leak they reckon I should be 'ok' for a good few months, maybe longer.......

I'll probably start pricing the bits up and whilst its out replace gaskets, belts etc that can be done with the engine out. Better to spend a few extra quid whilst it's on the bench to ensure its all tip top going back in :)

In other news the DSG service went well and the gear changes are silky smooth. Garage replaced both the DSG oil and the transmission oil along with the filter. Hopefully that's ok for the next 38,000 miles!

What engine have you got?

as I’m curious about the DSG oil change as I had mine done recently and it was just the DSG Oil and the two filters.

3.0 single turbo TDI with the 7 Speed DSG box :)

There are two oils associated with the DSG gearbox. The way the garage explained it to me is you have the DSG oil which houses the mechatronics and the hydraulic clutches and then you have a separate oil which lubricates the gear train and differentials.

As far as I know I think it's the latter that is apparently sealed for life but I had it changed anyway for piece of mind :) He showed me the oil that came out of the gear train and it was definitely worth changing even though the oil for that was £90.......

All in I paid £332 for the service but that was for 7 litres of DSG oil, 5 litres of the 2nd oil, 1.5 hours of labour and the filter for the box. Oh and £8.95 for an oil seal!!!! :O

That’s interesting to know. I always thought the DSG oils had to be changed very 38k miles and that regular ZF auto boxes had oil sealed for life.

Did you notice any differences in the smoothness of the gear changes after?

Yeah the DSG oil is changed every 38k; its the 2nd oil that is sealed for life...apparently

Gear changes are still smooth. There was sometimes a clunk going into reverse and at the moment this has disappeared. Only done 30 miles so far on holiday tomorrow so will put some more miles on it :)

The ZF 8 speed is a sealed for life unit according to Audi. ZF say differently mind....
