Hi! cleaned out my egr valve last recently and found it was coated with soot, so was the intake manifold so gave them a good clean. Also the flap was stuck open and wound't move freely before. After cleaning and installing back, I got a warning light saying, "insuffient egr flow"! :S it was blocked and covered with soot before and no warning light and after I cleaned it i got this with VCDS! I then couldnt be bothered paying for a new egr valve and used vcds to change the function of the valve. Now the warining light has gone and have realised I used to get around 38/39MPG around town and now getting 32/33MPG! Im guessing the valve is now closed and EGTs have increased, causing more fuel to be taken into the engine to reduce the temp. So is either replacing the EGR valve/ vaccum the best option or for about half the price get a EGR delete kit? Thoughts welcome, thanks

Removed my EGR a few weeks ago and soaked it in paraffin to get all the soot etc off. After I refitted it I got the same fault code 'insufficient flow'.
Got the code cleared twice but it came back after a day or 2 driving, only thing I can think is that the diaphragm maybe got ruined by the paraffin.
Got a new one and its all good now!

Just remove the EGR system and get the light mapped out. It will save a lot of hassle in the long run as the EGR will just keep on getting sooted up.

I agree mikey, I should have gone for the EGR delete as well, wish I did now but just wanted to fix my car asap!

just a quick update, Ive done the EGR valve replacment and now 47MPG on a 80mile round trip! I havent seen this figure in a good 6 months, Well chuffed

So thats why you have suddenly had a change of heart over deleting the EGR after in THIS thread only last month you said in post 6 "yes, exhaust gases are not recirculated back into the engine, so reduces burning efficiency, becuase of less oxygen in exhaust smoke, but when the engine is more than 50ocelcius the egr valuve closes so no exhaust gases go back into engine, so no real point in my opinion. it can be easily switch off with a remap". What`s this crap about "my local tuning company has come up with a egr delete package" who you seem to be basically an on site spam advertiser for since that is an Allard EGR delete pipe that keeps the anti shudder valve which you haven`t even been bothered to remove the Allard sticker from! Lloyd Allard ( who is a good friend of mine ) designed that pipe to fit my car for the new build as i wanted to keep the anti shudder function on the air inlet this time unlike their usual design. You might want to at least give some credit to the people/company that designed and make the products that "your local tuning company" sale on instead of making it seem like they actually did anything!

mate you really have problems critising people huh! I'm not taking any credit from anyone and yes it is a Allrad pipe, as you can seee from the sticker. I didnt say anyone else made it! Well done if they originally made it for your car, does that mean no-one else should buy it? Ive got both versions and didnt want to cut up my manifold intake pipe so went for the egr delet only. Only reason i deleted it was because when i cleaned it out it came up with "insuffient flow" fault so cheaper to delete than replace and has helped with my MPG, etc.
Whos to say your not a spammer for the links you post! seriosuly you need to chill it out, we live in a free world I dont dictate where people should buy there stuff from, its a reccomendation and anyone can make their own mid up
there are two versions, you can delete the anti-shudder valve with the motorsport version or keep the anti-shudder valve with the roadsport version. I have the roadsport.

Yes you can buy this direct from Allard and they can surply a new anti-shudder valve but weather it is any cheaper then from a motor factors shop i don`t know.
Only if they can see it , which most will be covered by a top engine cover they are not allowed to remove .
Electronicly mapped out so it remains closed without triggering an eml there's absolutely nothing to see either .
