Morning chaps,
I could really use some help asap really with a jammed glove box door.
Just been out to get fuel, put my wallet in glove box until I got home, now the door won't open and I need to get my wallet out in the next hour if possible.
Any thoughts on accessing it without damaging it

Cheers
Rob

Can you not get to the hinges and get in that way???
Few years since I did my glove box good luck

I can't remeber if the dash side panel pops off. Anyway of releasing it from in there? Not heard of the glovebox jamming before. Is it likely that something inside has jammed it at the bottom? Maybe see if you can slide a rule up through the bottom to make sure?

Can you get in behind one side of it if you pop the side panel off the dashboard?

Side panel pops off like fuse box side 3 or 4 screws will get the top Quattro trim off????

Mine jams open quite frequently, not sure if it would be a similar thing. I have to pull the release as far as it’ll go and let it flick back into position on the springs over and over to get some movement to the mechanism. Might be worth giving it a few flicks...?

I presume you locked it, I had something similar when I locked mine once but just kept playing about with the key in there and opening gently then yanking then opening gently and eventually after lots of strong words it came so I never lock it now, to be honest the locking and opening design on Audi's seems a bit rubbish I had a similar problem when double locking the boot.

Thanks for the quick replies chap, really appreciated , i'm going to have another go now and combine all your replies and hopefully it will play ball and let me have my wallet back.
It wasn't locked either , just wont open...…all abit odd really, but hey, that like a lot of audi designs.

cheers

Right then, managed to ping the latch itself from behind the side cover and it opened up , but it would appear the problem is with the glovebox handle or the mechanism it links with, if I pull the handle lever neither of the two side latches retract.....
I expect there is some naff mechanism inside the door itself that has broken now...….so that's going to be another £250 or thereabouts for a naff plastic assembly.

Well a new latch is required, mickey mouse design or what......at least it comes out easy without removing the glovebox etc, still a stupid idea to be made in plastic for a lever device.

anyway , thanks for the input chaps, mucho appreciated.

It may be worth checking eBay for a second hand glovebox - there are plenty out there and it may be a cheaper fix?

Here is the link to our Glovebox removal video if you do go down the road of replacing it!

Hey @I'm Just Rob.

Which road did you end up going down? New latch or new box? I've just had the same thing happen to mine... I've taken the latch out and sure enough, some small plastic lever fell out with it. Is it fixable at all or is this a new part job?

It wasn't the lever in the end, his wallet was so fat with cash it got wedged in there......:tearsofjoy:

I just sourced a used glovebox, removed the latch assembly from it and swapped over key barrels, job done and has been fine since.
new latch assembly are not that expensive either but iust managed to get a complete box for almost nothing .
