Hello all,

I am running a square setup with aftermarket 19x8.5ET47 (10mm spacers) wheels and stock Pirellis so far. 2 of those have bad flat spots and cause heavy vibrations above 100KPH. When this was brought up with Audi, they put down the vibration to bent rims in spite of me producing 2 independent wheel balancing reports which clearly blame the rubber. To avoid any further escalation with them, I have decided to replace the tyres myself and plan on going in for Michelin PS4S/PSS. Having read up on some of the threads, it appears that for the same spec tyre (235x35R19) the Michelins are wider/bigger than the Pirellis. Can someone confirm this and better yet, provide a picture comparison? Also, considering my setup, is there a chance of tyre rubbing at full lock (stock fixed suspension) or speed errors/ESC faults?

Thanks for any input.

Dont go with 235. Either go with 245/35 or 255/30 square.

I went with 255 square lowered on MSS. No rubbing and it definitely is wider than stock tires of same spec. Ride difference is just amazing.

What size are your wheels 8.5 x19"? What offset are they, ET? Are you running any spacers?

I really wAnt to change to Michelin’s but I’m hearing different stories of there’s no issues and then others saying they’ve had issues????

I’m on a staggered setup FL RS3

245/35/19’s Michelin pilot 4s on mine Car feels more stable and speed and in the corners. Been over 170 ( private runway :whistle2:) I can’t recomend them more. I’m running 8.5/19 et38 no rubbing at all.

I didn’t think you could fit 255 on the rear (OEM wheels?)

8.5 on front vs 8.0 on the rear also?

Or do the 255 rear only work on aftermarket wheels 8.5 all round?

Someone did post a useful pic a while back of tyre width comparison, same 255 width but one tyre quite a bit wider than the other.

I’m thinking about going 245 all round. Not sure wether to get 30 or 35 but.

Go for 30’s will give you as close of possible the same over circumference as the standard set up I think mate

A quick calculation on willtheyfit dot com compared to my current setup of 235x35xR19 ET47x8.5 gives the following:
245x30xR19 - speedo error of +2.78% and ride height change of -8.75mm
245x35xR19 - speedo error of -1.07% and ride height change of +3.5mm
255x30xR19 - speedo error of +1.81% and ride height change of -5.75mm

The 245x35 gives the least error but increases the ride height and subsequent arch gap which may not be aesthetically pleasing. However there is less chance of ESC/ABS issues.
The 255 would give the car a nice visual stance but the speedo error is creeping to 2% and the wheel width at 8.5 although acceptable is at allowable limit and so i'm not sure how well it will ride on turns.

TC can flicker a bit when MPSS are cold. I changed to them all 4 corners and just turned off TC in the rare cases that it happened. Far better than pirelli imho.

Surely tyres don't need declaring to an insurance company provided they are the correct size?!

19x8.5 ET38. 3mm spacer on front and no spacer on back.

FYI, when using stock tire with BBS wheels, I had 10mm spacer on rear to make it look good with drop. But not even needed with Michelin 255. hope this gives you an idea how much wider it is.

This sounds good. From research I’ve already planned a 5mm spacer front and 8mm rear. Cheers for the info :)
