but has anyone painted there chrome vents to black ? I think they d look much more nicer ..

You have bad taste mate as the design package is ****** awesome best interior option ever for the drab A3 interior

Can’t agree I hate the red stitching and air vents, 80s chav, uhhh

Chavvy. .. *** plus 2 for no taste, beats the toy gun look chrome air vents hands down mate and l have had chrome in my prevous car. ....

I changed my air vents to the red RS design. It looks much better. The chrome does look tacky to me.

Of course I think it depends on the stitching of the seats - I had red stitching so the chrome looked wrong.

Changing my vents and getting my wheel re trimmed in full alcantara took the interior up several notches. I would love the whole dash to be covered in alcantara but that would be very expensive.

Hahahaha I knew that would provoke a reaction from you

I still hate the red though, can’t say I like the ‘painted’ chrome either, but lesser of 2 evils for me

Just watching top of the pops from 1986, plenty of red stiching on show

Jeez, if you think chrome looks tacky, surely the red is worse?!

Personally, I think chrome looks classy, red a bit OTT. Everyone's opinions is different. For me, it's expensive for what it is...50p plastic mould vents and some red stitching and mats.

I have the rs design on my facelift s3 ... it's just childish looking in my opinion lol
I ordered a panther black rs3 black optics with black and silver seats stiching ... like i said i love the rs floor mats which i can order seperately
but i would like to paint the chrome vents probably black ... was hoping to see a picture if anyone's done the change :)

that looks nice mate cheers for the photo .
shipping and all cost too much i ll just get mine painted in black :)
but the photo was exactly what i was after

It is about what matches with the interior I think.

I had red stitching on my seats and wheel so the chrome looked out of place. Changing to red made it match, also to be fair the red metallic colour is around the air control rings not the vent surround - it’s a totally different part for anyone who hasn’t noticed.

I am sure if I had chrome with the white/silver stitching it would look better.

How is that steering wheel holding up or too soon to tell? Mine is quite tatty now.

It’s the cheap looking matt finish plastic that I dislike most on the red vents, that’s what cheapens it more than the red.

Have you seen the price of the mats?? Someone posted here a few months ago, knocking on for £400 a set I’m sure they were and the RS badge goes very nasty in a short period of time from photos I’ve seen.

What I don’t like is the Facelift S3 had some really nice piping on the mats specific to the S3, the RS has basic black piping as in your A3 SE.... could have at least used the same piping.

My full alcantara wheel from royal steering wheels is fine. Looks cool. Feels great. Just don't forget to wash it now and again.

I actually picked up some suede cleaner for my shoes and I use that on it - its a foam. And then wipe it off with the cloth, I don't know if thats better than warm soapy water but I have that can in my car so can clean the wheel anytime I need.

you're right I checked last night .. probably not worth it and won't match the black/silver sticking on my car ...
but I saw those diamond sticking floor mats in leather and boot mat as well .. not a bad price .. I ll probably get those ...

I’m afraid to clean mine any more now it’s only been done a few times, can see it going bobbly. The detailer is worried too.

Lol at the detailer comment. Anyone would think he's worried about being diagnosed with something!

8000 miles in and my steering wheel is like new.

He’s worried about doing damage by scrubbing away at it any more haha.

Mine doesn’t look horrific but it’s compacted down, isn’t fluffy any more and you can see the patches where it is flat quite clearly, I’ve got 8700 miles on the clock.

You could always get the wheel retrimmed - may be the best solution for anyone worried about the alcantara.

Personally I had my original wheel 7k miles no problems. Then replaced for a 2k and then the retrim since then.

That’s my plan it will need a retrim inevitably, but I don’t want to be doing it every 12 months.
