about ready to replace tyre on my SQ%,currently running dunlop sport on 21" diamond cuts as per supplied from new, doesn't seem to be a big choice at 21", pirellis and conti, not too keen on the latter, anyone experienced pirellis on SUV?

Had Pirreli on an S4 and then again on an A6 3.0TDI - both quattro and heavy, but they needed replacing after 9k miles on each car and most of htat was motorway.

never again...

Have always heard Pirelli are great at grip etc, but not the best life. Will find that out now 1st hand with my wife’s new Mini JCW that is shod with P Zero’s

Any options from Michelin? Have Conti on my Q5 but only 2900 miles in, but that said so far handling and road noise fine

Can’t complain about the grip, on dry days, with Pirelli, but they’re bonkers expensive when you consider the cost per mile.

I actually replaced them with some Dunlop’s on the S4 and they managed 28,000 happy, mostly motorway, miles before the car was sold and they were just legal...

My SQ5 came from the factory with Dunlops but after 2 days I swapped wheels with someone who had ordered the wrong colour so ended up with Pirellis. Side by side the Pirelli didn't look to have quite as wide a footprint as the Dunlop but performance wise they've been fine, on 14k now with a good few MM left.

Tyre choices are very limited in the 21s, originally only 4 I think, Michelin and Conti were the other 2 but I see Goodyear have just released an F1 (there's a couple of budget brands available now as well -which I'll avoid).

First choice for me would be Michelin but they're usually quite a bit more expensive so when it comes to change I'll just go with the cheapest of the other 4, actually quite fancy the F1s.

I do like Michelin, but they can be pricey. Pretty good wear out of your Pirelli’s I had F1’s briefly on A6 until I p/x’d for Q5, they were so much better than the previous bridgestones.

Yep, was wary of the horror stories surrounding the SQ5's wear rate on Pirellis (got a good deal on the 'swap') but they've actually been pretty good.
Best recent deals seem to be on Dunlop, there's a GT and an RT2 but not sure what the difference is between the 2.

Had Bridgestones on a Scooby, never again!

Could you not replace the 255/40/21 with 265/40/21 without any issues. I thinks there is much more choice...I have looked and the Pirelli’s are £35 cheaper per corner and are also 2 grades more efficient. Anyone done this..looked on US websites and looks all good...

Interesting option needs further investigation...:)
