Sweet!
I read on the A4 forum, cars are coming through thick and fast, so hopefully you're will be with you sooner than mine will arrive with me!

That is my gripe with Audi. Thousands of cars are reaching the UK from Emden in a matter of days. On the S3 forum there are cars that reached the UK only a week after being built. They were in Emden for 2 days! The delays with the Q5 are well known but I can't figure out the delay to mine. It has either been damaged (like my last new order with Audi) or the car park operate a last in, first out policy and mine is stuck at the back somewhere.

If it is a genuine backlog, which makes no sense considering the amount of cars getting through quickly, then I am hoping the closure of many model lines in preparation for MY19 changes will enable port logistics to catch up.

Yours is an RS3 is it not? Could it be caught up in the emissions spot check?

Yes, RS3. That's interesting. I am aware of WLTP but isn't that for vehicles registered after 1st Sep 2018?

Yes, I believe so, but there have been all sorts of "rumours" flying around, about phone booster aerials not complying etc.
You car does seem to have been stuck at Emden for a long time, so maybe as you say it is last in 1st out.

It sounds like your contact at the dealership has little knowledge of the process and is just making it up. If your car ends up on the City of Barcelona today then the Audi tracker will update over night and will change to status 39. You'll know by tomorrow morning via the online tracker if it made the ship or not.

I am now on day 36 with car waiting in Emden and you start to loose a little sanity as the days pass........ :sos:

Yep..checked and still waiting....

@Geordie Lee
I'm really curious if you have made it to '39' or not.
Is you car on City of Barcelona?

Call me paranoid, but I'm starting to think it's only our individual car which is being held in Emden. Nothing to do with any recall or WLTP - some other reason, like damage or pure spite!

Not sure if it helps but the Audi CS team has just revealed a little more info. And I quote - "There is a backlog on certain cars", and not a shipping backlog as previous stated. He implied that the issue could be emissions related but that they don't have any further info. Obviously Audi are unhappy with a pile of cars or there is a regulatory issue preventing their release or importation to the UK. From what I can tell Q5's and RS3's are affected. I am not aware of any major hold-ups in Emden on other models?

@Powerenhancer Thanks for the heads-up and confirming it's not just me ;)
To me it doesn't make sense for it to be emissions as WLTP legislation doesn't come into effect until 1st September, so they can still sell the vehicles so long as they are registered before that date. The is unless under the new scheme, RFL on those vehicles will be ridiculously high and they're trying to mod them in some way?

@Arch_SQ5
Have you booked your car and got lowdown from your dealer?

I've called them and I'm awaiting a call back to book it in - however this was a few days ago and given that this is brake related I'm pretty annoyed that they're not jumping through hoops to get it checked out!

Makes no sense to me either. I am wondering if Audi have been targeted for random spot checks based on the current emissions regs. I little worrying.

Good work - Not even Indiana Jones could make through Emden at the moment!

@Geordie Lee Great news, although I'm understandably a bit miffed!

Folks who ordered earlier have their cars, folks who ordered later will soon have their cars....and us...October! ***! :(

When one of the members told me to look at the ships in the ports and it was confirmed that a ship was leaving 22/06...it was more of a punt that my car would be on this ship..purely as the dealer said of the 15 day SLA..if it hadn’t of made that ship it would of been greater than 15 days.

I agree it’s unclear on what is or has happened and why specific cars (irrespective of build dates) are taking longer....Meester Steve did you order an SQ5..or was it a different model..

Lee

My build was week 23 - w/c 23rd April.
Spec:
  • Nav Blue
  • 21's
  • Pano roof
  • L&V Pack
  • C&S Pack
  • Air suspension
  • Red Calipers
  • Audi Side Assist

Yours?

I've got some theories:

  1. I'm caught up in the 'brakes' recall - build date fits
  2. They've picked my car for WLTP testing - sod the customer, they can wait and we'll build another one for them
  3. It's been trashed in transit - Oh ****! they'll have to wait and we'll build another one for them
  4. I'm just really unlucky
  5. All of the above somehow!
Seriously considering cancelling at this point...

Out of interest, did you get a letter from your dealer about WLTP and the right to cancel, etc?

No letter from dealer and did not have a letter on the right the cancel..

I can't find any correlation between spec and held vehicles. It's appears random. Other RS3's of similar spec that were built after mine have made it through Emden in a matter of days and are already with their owners, which proves it is not a shipping backlog. Same with the Q5/SQ5, some make it through promptly and without trouble.

Just spoke to Audi UK, who told me the car is still in quality control in Emden, with NO ETA for delivery.
The 'nice lady' I spoke to tole me the order book for MY19 is open and agreed it may be quicker to cancel and re-order! Even if I don't get a build week until September!!!

About to really throw my toys out of my pram...

Day 37 now in Emden and I am considering the same, if anything due to lack of information from Audi. Also, I will reject the car if there is any damage repair. The last new car I ordered from Audi was damaged in transit and the dealer tried to hide it from me. Not sure what the odds are of having a second new car in a row damaged in transit from the factory?

Not what you want to hear. Clearly they are holding back cars for rectification work. I was unable to get Audi CS to confirm my car was being subject to QC. How long as your's been in Emden?

Did they make any concession for the damage? Can't believe they tried to hide it from you, well I can actually, given recent experience.

This is only the second new Audi we've bought. First was a cancelled order Mk1 TT. That went back to Germany for a month for the whole 'handling' issue, if you can recall (excuse the pun) that.

Really feel for you guys, I would be going spare myself. How can that work, you cancel, and re-order a MY19, and get it before MY18!

Many thanks for your help..otherwise I would have not tracked down the ship.

I do hope yours is not too long.

Welcome, enjoy!

This is only the second new Audi we've bought. First was a cancelled order Mk1 TT. That went back to Germany for a month for the whole 'handling' issue, if you can recall (excuse the pun) that.

Only to repair to an acceptable standard. Vehicle looked fine during pickup but when I drove it home the steering wheel was left hand down by quite a way. Dealer stated it was "normal" for some new vehicles and that the alignment cannot be done until it had covered at least 1000 miles. I then took it to a detailer for paint protection who quickly discovered the drivers side front wheel was a different colour to the other 3. Quite obvious when it was pointed out to me but you tend to be blinded during the pickup.

It was an S5 with 20" wheels and paint finish impossible to match. They agreed to replace the wheel but there were other issues and the car was kind of mis-sold to me (3 children and only 2 back seats!). The dealer (Bury St. Edmunds) ignored my requests for assistance in trading the vehicle in or selling it on their forecourt. Traded it in at another garage at a huge loss. What annoyed me the most is that they weren't the cheapest but I agreed to support my local dealer in return for some reciprocal loyalty. Got crapped on.

Then bought an approved 6k mile 1 year old, high spec RS6 from Norwich Audi for 65k only to discover it had been in a front end collision. They too refused to help and implied "sold as seen". Sanding marks under paint, bits, fish eye, bodged dent repair. Lesson learned - always inspect every inch of the car even if it is almost new and from an authorised main dealer.

All I will say is that there better be nothing wrong with the RS3.

Probably a stupid questions, but I gather no similar spec cars available in the country? Dealer orders or cancelled?

Nope, dealer already checked. Mine originally was a dealer allocated car assigned to me.
