Traffic Sign Recognition Coded!

I dont have traffic sign recognition but google maps constantly displays the speed limit for every road im on. Just wondering What the difference is?

Does the Traffic Sign Recognition feature also pick up digitally displayed speed limits, eg those on overhead gantry's on motorways to indicate a variable speed limit?

I’ve got VC and the camera - what was your coding process with OBD11?

The same as below, however i had to disable VZA (from my Nav) which was in one of the long codings in A5 or 5F. Will have to see if i can find its exact location tomorrow.

Coding:
STG 5F (Informationseletronics)
STG adaptation
Vehicle function list - BAP Gen 2
Select BAP-traffic_sign_recognition_0x21 -> adjust value to active

Vehicle function list - Gen 2 - Slightly different menu name
Select Vehicle Menu Operation-menu_display_road_sign_identification -> Adjust value to enabled
Select Vehicle Menu Operation-menu_display_road_sign_identification_over_thresho ld_high -> adjust value to enabled

STG A5 (Front/Camera)

STG access authorization
Enter security code 20103
STG Long Coding
Byte 1 -> enable bit 0

STG 17 (dash panel insert)
STG Long Coding
Byte 5 --> Enable Bit 2

I know this has been debated numerous times... I have an 2017 S-Line Avant without the VC but looking through this thread I am lead to believe the camera installed on my vehicle is okay for this coding??? I have standard LED lights.

Yes, all A4's have basic presense which uses the same camera...

So does this mean the parama of the camera may not be needed then? Just the settings tweaks. Has anyone in the UK tried?

I don’t think so, I’ve tried and it seems to be coded fine but never actually reads the signs.

Sorry yes.. I meant just via coding , not after using the kufatec box

I've ordered the dongle direct from Kufatec.de in Germany as it worked out to be 10-15 quid cheaper than ordering it from kufatec.co.uk (incl FedEx priority delivery from Germany).

I will post feedback once I receive it in a few days.

Money well spent IMO. it’s a bit nerve wracking when doing it as you get all sorts of error messages come up on the dash but once it’s finished coding they all clear.

Thanks, probably worth the investment if it helps me stick to speed limits ha ha. Quick question: once coded, do you have to enable the traffic sign recognition feature in the MMI or is it automatically displayed on the dashboard permanently?
Cheers

Is it just me, or is it not a lot to pay to simply have the speed sign on the VC when the centre screen already displays it?!!

It does't just show the speed from the sat nav though, it reads the signs, as previously stated. Personally I wouldn't have an issue paying that sum of money if I didn't already have it..

I'll mirror that. The sat nav uses the maps on the system so if there's any difference between the speed it displays and the actual (for road works/new limits/variable limits), the traffic sign recognition will override it to make sure you've got accurate info.

SO to recap;

Is TSR available through coding, or does it require a third party solution (Kufatec or similar)

Also...is it possible to get just the nav data in the vc with just coding? I'd probably be happy enough just having this

Don't know exactly what you mean by this, perhaps the wine has addled my head. But you can display navigation in the vc and, say, radio on the centre screen?

I don't think speed limit displays on Nav at all in vc...I would be happy with just permanent speed display (like the proper traffic sign function) in the vc just using the Nav data rather than camera and Nav data

Can't you have a glance at the MMI screen to see the speed limit displayed on there?

Yes but it depends.
It appears some years/ versions are having luck coding with OBD11 (i got it working)
Others have to use VCP to parameterize the camera (still not entirely convinced this is required outside of the US market)

I have a MY18 S4 with VC but without any driver aids (other than pre-sense city) and coded with OBD11. I get the additional display within the VC but no signs are read.

This makes me believe that the camera firmware needs updating or additional coding / adaptations are needed.

This is my experience too, couldn’t get it going on my old sport or current S4. There are slight variations on the code out in the wild so I keep fiddling and trying but I do think mine needs the vcp flash.

Yeah. My experience also.

Doesn't read signs. 2018 UK sline.

Strangely my windows now don't come down on long hold of open on the fob. Nuts

Do you guys mean with the Kufatec or just coding?

coding only - the camera needs to be parametised on uk cars I'm sure - or have kit over and above the s-line at least

sorted my windows though!

I'd just be happy with the maps speed limits chucked into the VC panel tbh. I find them fairly accurate,

Mines an s-line and I used the Kufatec, mine reads speed limit signs.

The camera 100% has to be parametrised for this to work.
Ok, sorry, I don't know what you mean by the camera needs to be parameterised. I have a MY18 S line, and was thinking of getting the Kufatec. Do I need to do another else or should the Kufatec take care of it all?

Ok received the Kufatec dongle this morning, took about 1 min to program and it seems to have worked its magic :). However after the programming I nearly had a heart attack when i noticed that the outside temperature display had dropped to 11c (its currently > 20c) but its slowly crept back into the 20's so luckily its not messed up the car's temperature sensor.

On the whole its picks up the speed limit signs quite well, it updates the speed limits a few seconds after you've passed the sign.

Has anyone who’s had the kufatec dongle got vcds or OBD11 to get the coding for A5, 5F & 17.

It would help me put to rest in my head that the A5 unit needs a flash as well as coding.

I have purchased the Kufatec dongle from the uk site in the last week. I followed the instructions on here as it didn't have any with the dongle and it appears to go through the process with lots of errors on the dash etc. One thing I did notice is that after a minute or so the red and green light were on and then the green light went off. The red light just flashes... it seems strange and no one else said this happened.

I now get the extra section on the VC under driver assistance but it just shows no sign recognised. I went for several drives on different roads and signs and nothing!.

I have tried a few times but get the same results, I have odb11 and checked the coding and all seems ok from the posts I have seen.

I have called the contact number on the invoice which is Richter Sports a couple of times and they don't seem to have an answer and never call back,

Looking at the dongle the single file can be read by a util on the kufatec website and it says coded and locked to car..... wonder if when before you use the dongle you could copy the file off as a back up and maybe copy back down to the dongle to use on another car?

Don't really know what else to do..
