Quick Valuation Question

Just an opinion from anyone online tonight if possible please. I’m looking at buying an A3 quattro 2.0TFSi sportback with full main dealer history backing up a measly 47k miles but it’s 12 years old....

Main thing is what’s it worth...?

Can be up to £6k depending on condition and options.

Go on to Auto Trader and click on 'Sell a car'
Enter registration plate and mileage and it will give you a good idea of what the asking price should be.

Thanks all. Autotrader reckoned 4350 which is a bit low and gave trade in value as just over 3k. Thing is it’s a trade in to the dealer and he’s now asking 6995!!! But we all know he’s probably trying to double his money. Also a dealer operating at a cheap car wash yard, not exactly encouraging.

Dealer operating at a cheap car wash... This wouldn’t be somewhere in West London, would it?

No. Ironically I remember accompanying a friend of mine to a dealer next to a car wash last year close to where you describe. I just can’t remember the name of the place but remember the car wash being at the bottom of a tall office building.

I wouldn’t pay that price for it, I bet you could get an s3 for that price.
I’d also be a bit suspicious about a car with that mileage at that age, it means it’s only averaged about 4000 miles per year which is well below normal but good if it’s genuine. I’d use the online mot checked on the gov.uk website to see if the mileage is genuine.

It is actually backed up by full main dealer history from new all the same dealer plus all MOT’s. One year it did less than 1k between services. Only question is cambelt was last done 15k/6 years ago after 6 years/32k so is it due again? Usual issue of the 5 year norm v front of book saying 115k miles etc. Main dealer confirmed it’s been looked after by them and is now due a service but didn’t elaborate.

It’s a bit of a tricky decision that one as going by mileage then it doesn’t need changing but going on it’s age it may need a change. Probably would be best to change it as it’s a rubber belt at the end of the day and over time it goes brittle so could just as easily snap for that reason I suppose.

Yep. That’s the one. Doubt he’ll take 4K. Would be nice though.
 
looks very clean and genuine. 7k for a 12 year old boggo hatch seems somewhat strong though...
 
A good way to find out if the mileage is genuine is ( if you have a ross tech cable ) or see if you could get a member to come with you with a cable and if the guy is fine then plug cable in and get everything checked then you have the full picture
