S5 Wheels on 8V S3

Anyone fitted S5 wheels on an S3, mainly bigger wheels, 20” maybe? Thinking because they have a lower offset I could fit them rather than adding spacers to mine to give a meaner look.

Also I notice there isn’t an 8V section on the forum (or at least I couldn’t find one). Does it need creating?

I’ve got an 8V S3 Convertible with the 19” split apples on. Looks nice but needs spacers to put the wheels where they should have been from the start. Wait her that or I get bigger wheels or wheels with less offset like S5 wheels which are et29 as opposed to et45 on mine. Means they will be 16mm further out, or at least that’s what I think that means unless someone tells me otherwise. Would go for 19”s as long as they are further out.

Hi @Neil Healey - welcome! Makes sense what you're saying. I can only speak for the 8P but I fitted 12.5mm spacers and the front was perfect, the rear rubbed occasionally. Some have fitted 15mm spacers.

Check out the 8V forum as the'll give a better idea of whether the 16mm difference (ET45 > ET29) would work or not.
 
Do you mean wheels from a B8/B8.5 S5?

You will need a spigot adaptor because the Centre Bore on the S5 is 66.6mm, whereas I believe the S3 is 57.1mm.

I would also hazard a guess that they will stick out further than 16mm due to the wider alloy width. The S5 is 9j, whereas the S3 are typically 8j?

Finally, the tyre diameters are likely to be different. The 19" S5 wheels are 255/35, whereas I believe the S3 are 235/35 or 255/30? In both cases, the overall circumference difference would be pretty substantial.

My S5 had the rotors in 19" and where the following:
255/35/19 9jx19 ET33 CB 66.6mm

20" Rotors are:
265/30/20 9.5jx20 ET29

Check the above is correct to help you make an informed decision, as I might be mistaken on parts...! But if you need spigot adaptors, the alloy sticks out further than the arch, and the tyres are much larger, then I wouldn't bother. Spacers would be far easier, or just wheels designed for the S3 that have a lower offset.

Sounds like it’s a no. That’s why I can’t find anyone who’s done it. Might just get some spacers and lower it like everyone else does!!
