Thank you, mate. It took already long to het where the car is now and it will be long before it will be as I want it to be.
Small steps will bet me there.

Was thinking to repaint mines also with proper silver paint but don’t have enough time. Kinda need them for every day drive and cannot be bothered to remove them and fix the internals in. Also, can get messy if water damaged, maybe.
They are currently plasti dipped and have few spots needing touch up.

I don’t know how to take them entirely, sorry.
Plasti dip was on the car with plenty (never enough) masking.
What I usually do when planning to remove a part is to look online/eBay for it’s replacement. Good samples and spares of china parts will usually show you, where are the fixing points. That way you’ll know what to look for.

For plasti dip I have removed the mirror and saw the whole movement mechanism and indicator lens. All that is attached to the mirror cap.

First, you need to remove the mirror and undo the screws at the bottom of the housing. Than, by looking around should be 3 or 4 screws securing all internals to the cover. After that is gutted, cap just lifts upward.

Maybe other member would be able to provide more specific fixing location and step-by-step guide.

If you succeed, let me know, please

I found plasti dip good for this, as used previously matt black one elsewhere.

Masked off some areas and sprayed over, making sure, I spray over the hinge piece which is inly visible when you fold the mirror.
It didn’t quite worked out that well but it looked ok. It would be much better work, if had the cap on the table and paint it over.

Will see if few days during the summer can forecast food weather so I’ll plan to redo them but taken off the car

Thank you Sean

Haven’t got any pictures from inside but will take some next time.
In these pictures, I’ve switched off interior lights to show better contrast.

FYI, ambient lights are adjustable from MMI only when all doors are closed or will adjust only on the doors that are closed.

Nightmare? Not really.
Spend good 3-4 hours doing both rear doors and 2-3 on each front ones.
Had to divide the jobs as my poor back (which already feels like 70yo guy) didn’t like it and I was doing that very late at nights.
Only tome I have for myself and the car is when everyone is asleep.
Also, I didn’t want to rush it.
Everything soldered together, heat shrink tubbed and wrapped in tessa tape.

Few time forgot to connect something (door handle cable or speaker wires) and realised when door card was all screwed back in. Lol

Additionally, I’ve extended the door puddle lights wires by about 20cms as they are pita to take out from the door cards.
Wires are very short and makes it impossible to easily replace the bulbs.
You’ll pull out the light but the connector will spring back into the door card and you’ll have to pull it off to fit the light back in.
Might as well do it while you at it.

Looks good mate, worth the pain! Im in the same boat as you! Just about to start physio after surgery and have to get upbat 6am to do my jobs!

Tempted to tackle this myself at some point as the lights that are there now are useless, can barely see them.

Another led addition.

Front ashtray had red led dull so added same led strip as in the door handles

Within connector and led housing, there is another resistor reducing 12 to 3 volts

Had to be bypassed and led strip soldered in

Still alive here LOL

Although work drain all my strength, whenever can, I’ll do something on the car.

Yesterday took the exhaust tips off for cleaning. Starting to prep for August AITP10.

Forgot to take pictures of them fitted back in the car so it will be followed later.

Wanted to see if I can extend the length of the tips on the pipe but they do not catch on clips then.
Aim was to have them sticking out the bumper more. Might need to rethink and either weld on extension or get different tips.

Looking good mate, I attacked mine with wire wool at the weekend but I think I'll have to get the Mr muscle out like you. Didn't realise the tips came off so easy

That Mr Muscle foamy spray is really good.
Gave it a first coat and left it for few minutes than another coat.
Once properly soaked, well scrubbed with dish washing sponge.

Few little taps with hammer and they came off. They have those teething clips pretty tight.

Sounds good will give it a go always have Mr muscle in stock from previous turbo cleans.

Good plan mate I spent three hours on mine last week and my back was broken for a day or two.

They look great mate and should really shine in full sun. It's the little bits that count!

Looks about right. Cannot remember now.

I didn’t solder them. Only used connectors from the pack.
Map reading bulbs are pita to replace.

Have those led panels across the cars interior, apart from boot. Got the cob led panel in there. Had them previously as smaller interior lighting but they easily go off partly and it looks funny, half working & half not.

Smd led panels are better, imo.

Planning to install them in the tailgate. They too big but might modify the plastic.
Will take a picture for you and post it back.

Looking good matr, really like how bright those ambient lights are now. Was it really time consuming?

Thank you.

Consider each door card taken off and all wires soldered in with heat shrinks.
Wanted to do it the right way.
Also, extended puddle lights wires, as they were very short. Without it, I would not be able to complete those logo projectors in 2 minutes per door.

After a time driving with them I think I could’ve connect door handle red leds, I have also added, to ambient lighting.
This would allow brightness control.
Or, hook it up to internal ambient lighting (i.e. two red spots in front dome or ash tray. They only come on when light sensor trigger them at night.

They cool looking anyway

You could complete all 4 doors in half a day.
Get all door cards off and solder all at once.

I have some puddle lights like yours, but I'm looking for some that don't start to fade after about 6 months.

Please let me know how you get on with yours Kris.

Washed, detailed, polished, waxed and buffed.
Took me only 9 hours (!)
But ... I’m ready for aitp10.
Worth the effort

S6 style chrome matte wing mirror housing arrived quickly

Direct replacement without any faffing about and any modifications needed

Simply adjust the mirror to the far inside, pop the glass off, disconnect heating wires (sitting tight and it is difficult to hold the connector on the glass and wiggle the plug the same time).
Unscrew 1xT10 screw holding the motor and housing (circled in red)

df34e8cb880da891777f7b2e4b5f9412.jpg

and another two with metal spring brackets (circled in blue)

Now the whole housing can be separated from the inside by pulling it whole upwards.
It isn’t easy but hooks from the housing (circled in green) have to be released

c10db00da9cf2f352ac9fea0cff7b931.jpg

Plastic trim removal tools will be handy to pry the base off the mirror housing.
Separate the bottom part from the housing by inserting the flat trim removal tool from the tip end of the mirror. There are two clips (circled in yellow) which will pop out and release the housing.

b63c4947e670ba3aa1cdb0a26d264977.jpg

From inside of the mirror housing, start pressurising black base and lift the whole housing up to separate them two. Some force needed but you should not break anything.

Tip: make sure you adjust the mirror motor to flat middle position. This will allow mirror housing to pass by the motor easier.

Once housing releases, disconnect indicators and replace the housing in reverse order.

As majority of my work take place during night hours and in underground parking lot, daylight pictures will be to follow.
As usual, chuffed with results anyway

When ordered the mirror housings, I’ve also got amber led strips to work as a backlight for indicators in the mirrors.
Indicators there are sealed units and theres nothing than be fitted inside of them.
Disappointed but might use them elsewhere.
