SQ5 So the wait begins...again!

@Arch_SQ5 Congrats on the new wheels!

Not sure we need a pic of the new car, but your drastically ruffled hair... :smiley:My Mrs. stipulated the pano, so it will fun to see how much her barnet gets blown about. In our car not yours, obviously!

Weirdly, the majority of the SQ5's, and Q5's too, I've seen have been in Nav blue, so grey is a good choice. We've been really boring and will be joining the 'Nav blue' club, eventually.

Interesting to hear your initial teething issues. A possible SW update required? You'd have thought they would do that, assuming one is available, in Emden or at the dealer.

Also your plans to purchase a faraday bag. I'm considering disabling, which I think is possible, the keyless entry as the whole faraday bay/tin thing seems a right royal pain in the harris. Shame the 'baddies' have caught up with the tech and the car manufacturers haven't sorted it yet. With the exception of Jag/LR, I understand. Maybe this is worth a thread on it's own?

I assume you went for the B&O? That was my one of my 'must haves'. that and moving up from S-Line to an SQ :smirk:

Looking forward to further updates.

Happy driving!

Hi @Geordie Lee,
Congrats on leaving the factory, but I don't want to rain on your parade, I went to 'Status 30' (Left the factory) on 25th April and according to my dealer, as of last week, my car is at 'Quality control 8', which is very much still in Mexico, apparently. :(

Yeah I’ve read the above before - I’m being gentle-ish with it. It’s on a PCP but I’d still expect some handover on a 60k vehicle.

It also had 27miles on the clock which felt like a lot.

In a nutshell I’m really enjoying the car. It’s so much bigger than I remember on test, but I’m stepping up form an S1 so it’s going to be different.

The sound system is excellent, but the exhaust in sport mode sounds too good to have it on. I made good use of the pano roof yesterday, and whilst I’ve got to idea if it’s buffers in the back, it did ruffle my hair dramatically!

Niggles so far:

The MMI screen hasn’t come on a couple of times and I’ve had to lock and unlock the car and ignition sequence to get it to come on.

Audi connect seems clunky, I need to tell it to connect every time, and google maps has only worked once, the rest of the time has been the standard maps - I think this is probably something I need to play with.

The central locking wouldn’t lock last night after I unlocked it to grab something - I had to toggle the ignition on and off before it would lock.

My dealer has added the 4 rings puddle lights - can’t decide if they’re cool or chavvy - I suspect the latter but I’m not swapping them back. (The plain ones are in the glove box in a box).

I need to sort GAP insurance, normal insurance some additional security and a faraday bag today!

J

Try ALA for GAP. Love the SQ5, i will get one when I grow up

Congratulations on your new Q5!

For GAP Insurance, I've went with ALA Insurance, and got a great deal for their replacement vehicle plus policy, as they matched the Total Loss Gap 123 quote, and then discounted this by a further 20%.....so well pleased!!

Agree completely. I also used them on last car, and as only had it for 18 months, I could transfer across and top up value and go for replacement plus

Had to google faraday bag, as never heard of them. Assume like the wallets that stop scanning of contactless? Where are you buying from?

RE: faraday - it will be a right pain, but I asked the dealer about disarming the keyless option and they said it cant be done - I did find a setting in the MMI that turns it on and off but it was set to off already and it's very much still on when I pull the handle with the key near.

I'll do some more playing with the settings.

RE: B&O - absolutely must have if you listen to music - sounds really good, better than the S5 which I had on loan.

As for GAP - I've used ALA before, I usually use car plan which is who Audi use but they only do 3 year policies and I want 4

J

Have used http://car2cover.co.uk on a few cars. Thankfully never had to make a claim, but 3 levels of cover up to vehicle replacement and cover up to 5 years for what seems sensible money has me sold...

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

...just got cover with ALA for £330, interestingly they quoted £424 online, I did a quick online chat and they quoted less without being asked and then applied a 10% discount code - fairly happy with that cost to provide 40k cover over 6 years against a 60k vehicle.

Good work @Arch_SQ5. Back to your handover, not that I want to add negative spin to what must be exciting time with the new beast (after mini beast S1), but dealer should have done a lot more.

In my case, I was supposed to get full tank, expected flowers for the wife and sheet over car etc.
Got half tank, no flowers and no sheet despite being in handover booth.

Had a moan to Business Manager I deal with via email on the Monday in a subtle way as you do.
He apologised, and asked me if I would mind popping car back in when convenient. Gave me his S3 for the day, filled the tank, flowers for wife and Audi ring puddle lights (not something I would order, but think I like them). Have the originals in the box if decide to change back.

They (dealers) lose money if client doesn’t complete the post sale survey with max positives, so will often ensure you are happy. Plus the handover/demo sounds wholly insufficient.

Enjoy the SQ5, would love to see some pics.

Yeah I completely agree - I have a lot on atm so havent had a chance to get back to them but I think I will report my 'niggles' and subtly report on the handover experience - I literally only asked for a demo on the self park and to be told to go to a quiet carpark and read the book isn't what I was hoping for!

Fair enough. Think if they don’t get “completely satisfied” across the board, they get hit where it hurts

It's arrived! - no time to take any pictures but I'm sure you all know what a grey SQ5 with a pano roof looks like!

Went smooth at the dealership, albeit al little unceremonious - it was literally on the lot, and I was given the keys and essentially told to get on with it within 15mins of arriving - no demo [I asked for one on the park assist and was told to read the manual and go to a quiet carpark!, no bunch of flowers or any other jazz I was expecting - didn't even get a tank of fuel [which I didn't notice until I'd got home].

Interestingly I didn't ask about break-in, but his parting words were, there is no official break in for these engines so don't worry if you redline it - it will help loosen it up - I'm pretty confident that's not Audi's official stance!

It drives fantastic, I'll update more next week after I've had a chance to set it up and test it properly.

I forgot to ask did your SQ5 come with roof bars or do I need to buy these separately. Thanks.

Yes BUT I’m not sure if they come as standard as they’re packaged up in the boot and the dealer said we put them in as they don’t come with the SQ5 for some reason - obviously I’ve not had the best dealer so do check with yours.

@mxnrg you must be close to collection?

It will be interesting to see if you get the roof bars too. From reading other posts across the global Q5/SQ5 forums, it does appear some folks have received them foc, although for me they’re not essential but would be a welcome freebie.

Hoegh Yokohama is due into Emden today. I’m hoping I’ll get some positive news in the next day or so. And yes, I’m still ship tracking!! :)

Hey @Meester_Steve My I’m booked to pick up my car next week. It’s at the dealer, but I am not able to pick it up this week, a bit annoying but after 5 months a week’s delay is not a big deal.

I understood that all new Q5s and SQ5s came with the roof cross bars, I expect to have a set in my boot on collection.

The Emden to UK part of my wait was the most frustrating as my car was stuck in Status 38 for a month. Hope your transition is quicker.

Had a great weekend driving around and getting used to the beast. Really capable vehicle, and now my wife has sussed out the self-parking [which I've got to admit is pretty impressive] she's really pleased with it too!

I've just had my emailed questionnaire through from Audi about the handover experience - before I've filled it in I've emailed the dealer the dealer to express my concerns - I feel like such a moaner, but when purchasing such a substantial item I'd expect to feel a little more valued. Also the prep on the car was terrible, there was a sticker left on each wheel, blue plastic protection over the internal chrome trims in the boot and the inside of the glass looks like it's had a wet cloth swirled around it!

@mxnrg fair enough. An extra week wait isn’t much in the grand scheme of things.
I didn’t know about the inclusion of roof bars for all new Q5/SQ5’s. I’ll have to make sure my dealer doesn’t just ‘forget’ to pop them I’m the back.

Hoping the wait in Emden is kept to the minimum but I don’t have the phone box, so hopefully it’ll fly through, assuming that has been the cause of some of the delays.

Great to hear that you’re having fun. I hope my wife can get a handle on the self-parking as well, she’s nervous about the step up in size for us.

Sounds like your Dealer really didn’t perform. Did you deal with an individual sales person?

I did get roof bars in the boot, my dealer said they are standard. But Audi have clearly done away with the nice storage bag the Gen1 had, unles others got a bag?

I wouldn't feel like a moaner if I were you, as you say, this is a substantial outlay, and leaving plastic protection on etc is very poor

@Arch_SQ5 you don’t sound like a moaner to me, just a customer who’s spent a big lump of cash and expects the bare minimum of customer service. From what you’re describing, it does sound very shoddy.
Tbh I certainly wouldn’t be a happy either, although it does sound like ‘the beast’ is compensating, but that’s not the point.

We didn’t go for the self parking option- kind of wish we had as it sounds most entertaining. My mrs. said I was the only person driving our car who can’t park. She’s an expert at parking, don’t you know, therefore we didn’t need it!

haha - I def don’t find it hard to park without the aides and haven’t tried the self park yet, but it was mega to watch such a large vehicle park itself so quickly and acuratly!

I’ve just had a response form the dealer - not favourable.

So this was my email:

Hi ‘dealer’

Hope you are well? – I’ve just received my questionnaire in regards to the recent SQ5 purchase. Before I fill this in I wanted to run a few things by you.

I’m not hugely impressed with the prep of the car, the minor things were the stickers that were on the wheels which you know about, but as I got to know the car I found other areas that still had the blue protective plastic on them [all the chrome in the boot for example etc]. the inside of the windscreen in the car looks like it’s been wiped with a dirty wet rag as there’s smears all over it. I would just expect more care to be taken on the prep of a new car.

There isn’t a bottle of top-up oil with the car, again not essential, but my previous Audi purchases have included these.

I would have also expected a new vehicle to come with a full tank of fuel, as it stood it had 2 bars on the gauge, all my previous Audi purchases have been approved used but still came full.

I’m not usually one to moan, it just felt like there was a lack of ceremony, which don’t get me wrong I’m not one for these things but when spending 60k on a vehicle it would have been nice to have some sense of occasion – we brought a £8k VW Up a few years back and got champagne, flowers, car under a sheet and our pick of a piece of merchandise from the cabinet – it wasn’t ‘much’ but it made us feel valued. I’ve read online of others getting numerous ‘gestures’ when they collected their SQ5's and it seems I'm the only one on owners forums to have just been given the keys outside the showroom door.

All that aside the car is amazing and I was very happy with the order process and quality of the communication we’ve had over the past 5 months – it would be good to get your thoughts on the above before I fill out the form.

Thanks
‘Customer’

Here was my dealers reply:

Hi ‘customer’

I appreciate you emailing me before you complete the questionnaire and I do understand the issues you have raised but please allow me to take this opportunity to answer your points.

Firstly I regret the preparation of the car wasn’t to your complete satisfaction, I checked the car from a cleaning point of view and regret I missed the smears on the screen. I can arrange for the car to be re-cleaned for you and if you'd like this then please let me know when you are able to spare the car for an hour or so and I'll get it booked in.

I'm not sure why the stickers were on the alloys (not seen them before) but glad they were easily removed without any damage on the day, however regarding the protective blue covers on the chrome parts we tend to leave these on and leave it to the individual to decide whether they want them left on or removed as these parts are susceptible to damage. I'm sorry this was communicated on the day but rest assure the non-removal of the blue stickers wasn’t an oversight on our behalf.

I also regret that there was no sense of theatre when collecting the car. I always try and make the experience a smooth and enjoyable time for my customers and it was unfortunate the showroom was out of bounds when you collected the SQ5 and this prevented me from covering the car up, however I did my best to hand it over in a convenient place as opposed to using a space on the forecourt.

That said, I would have loved to have given you a gift from our parts department or even fill the tank up with fuel and totally appreciate your comments, however as we have all seen in our day to day life with the decline of many high street names and noticeably this morning with Marks and Spencer announcing another 30 stores closing this year the retail market has changed a lot with the prices being squeezed because of the internet and it's just no longer viable to run to extravagances of the past. Most dealer groups have now withdrawn those little extras but as a business it has to be quite black and white - discount or gifts.

The emphases is now even more about quality of time, communication and experience and I regret it appears I have fallen down slightly on the latter. Moving forwards I will endeavour to be more attentive about the collection experience.

Thanks again for your feedback however please be mindful that the questionnaire is primarily about myself and issues you have raised will be read by my peers and used to help improve our services.

Many thanks
‘Dealer’

Hi @Arch_SQ5

Good grief!! What a load of bull dust!!!

While I appreciate the retail market has changed and the internet may have made sales more competitive, I fairly sure a bunch of flowers and bottle of fizzy wouldn’t damage the bottom line of either the dealer or Audi. Building the Q5 family in Mexico must be beneficial from a profit perspective and not purely to service the US market more effectively. I think we’d all be horrified at the actual cost of build our cars vs what we paid, discount or not.

Funny how car dealers are becoming less customer focused. The second sentence my local Porsche dealer said was ‘…we don’t do discount, never, so don’t even try…’ even before a test drive. Really got my back up, so much so, it was one reason we decided against the Macan. That and the fact it’s on the old Q5 platform, among others tbh, but still. Ok, he did try to justify that statement with some guff about that’s why they don’t depreciate much but sounds like good old sales spin to me with a thick coating of arrogance.

Anyway, mini-rant over. Shame about the dealer. Great you’ve got your car. I hope it brings many happy miles and huge smiles.

Completely agree with all of this, so many of them are full of ****.

As said earlier in thread or maybe another My handover wasn’t quite a special occasion and a few things weren’t quite right, and when I raised this with Business Manager (not salesman) had puddle lights fitted, flowers for wife, and the items addressed that hadn’t been. Don’t get me wrong, I know what you mean about complaining etc, and I am not one of those, however this is a lot of car, £60k as you put it, I would raise with at least BM. And by the way the survey isn’t purely against salesman, dealership get roasted by Audi UK too.

The best of it is I’m making it sounds like I a wanted a fan fair - I didn’t, but I did want to feel like they cared and I didn’t get that at all.

I’m lucky to be in the position I’m in, and I wouldn’t go to the supermarket and expect a freebie, but then this isn’t a supermarket - I went to a main dealer and not a broker for the experience, could have ordered online and had it delivered to my door with more sense of occasion!

I will highlight this to the business manager, and I won’t be using this dealership for further customer, nor will I be taking it back to them to clean (no mention of a courtesy car etc so I’d be hanging around whilst they scour it with a brush).

@q5man Agreed the BM made amends to a degree in the end but you, as ‘a valued customer’, shouldn’t have to raise your dissatisfaction. They shouldn’t rely on the product to draw and retain customers.

@Arch_SQ5 I don’t think any of us expect a fan fair - well maybe small one ;) - it’s a courtesy ‘thank you for your business’. At the end of the day, an SQ5 is an SQ5, regardless which dealer you source it from. It’s up to them to differentiate themselves and add value, so ‘we’ the buying public return. I guess by the time you’ve farted, crackled and popped (the car, not you) your way to 30k miles, hopefully the dealer experience will be a distant memory.

How is that exhaust note?

If you’re lucky, you might a free coffee while you’re getting the beast cleaned :)

Hi @Geordie Lee,
I achieved ‘status 38’ last night - arrived in Emden. Things kicked off in build week 17, 23rd of April, but I suspect it may have started a bit earlier. The tracker reported leaving the factory 25th April, so that’s almost 4 weeks shipping to Europe.
Can’t recall your build date or factory exit, but hopefully gives you a glimmer of hope your car will be with you before Christmas ;)

I’m hoping my car doesn’t hang around in Germany too long, but that can be 3-4 weeks alone. Almost there…!

@Arch_SQ5 The basics I’d expect from a sales person at a reputable dealer on collection of a new car:

1) The car be prepared to a standard expected of a new car as agreed with the dealer. So in most cases cleaned and polished. Interior should be spotless. (I actually asked my dealer to touch the car as little as possible, but still expect it to be clean enough to verify paintwork and panels are as new).

2) I get that they can’t always stage the car in the collection bay with a cover, but the cost to them of doing this is tiny compared with the customer satisfaction. At the very least the car should have been protected from the elements since last clean to be presented in showroom condition.

3) The sales person you have done the deal with, or a suitable substitute should spend at least 30 minutes with you getting you set in the car and answer any questions you may have. If they genuinely don’t have time to demo something like park assist, find someone to help you for 5-10 minutes when handover is done.

4) Half a tank of fuel (that you have paid for). Bonus points for spending £45 on topping up to a full tank, but margins being as they are I’m not going to whinge if they don’t do this.

All of the above will cost your sales person/business manager 60-90 minutes of prep+handover time and not a penny more than you’ve paid. But will give you the positive vibe that I’m sure Audi UK expect their dealers to give.

I’d forward the mail thread to Audi UK and explain that your dealer l/sales person couldn’t be bothered to do what you’ve paid for, let alone anything extra.

By the way I’ve got the above collection service from Toyota on multiple occasions and from Mazda, Mercedes and Audi once each with no complaints.

On the roof bars, I got a whole host of - bagged - bars / attachments when I picked mine up in September. Was told at the time they were standard, but this may have changed.

They went straight in the garage and i haven't looked at them since to be honest.

Ah yes, got a thin bag that houses the luggage net, which I will never use. No bag for bars though

I didn't get a bag for my bars either, so I asked my sales guy for one, and he just took one from another Q5 that was in their showroom...perhaps this is why some cars don't have bags??!! :whistle2:

So spoke to my dealer, seems that roof bar bag was standard, but last few haven’t come with one. That is probably down to them being nicked for other Q/SQ5’s. He is going to see if he can find me one.

For those collecting in the coming weeks and months, be aware.

By the way I’ve got the above collection service from Toyota on multiple occasions and from Mazda, Mercedes and Audi once each with no complaints.

FYI I got all of the above on my pickup (actually got 5/8 of a tank of fuel) along with positive and appreciative comments for my custom from other sales people. I also got the bag for the roof bars without having to ask and a nice Audi zip bag/pouch full of cleaning supplies and a micro fire cloth at no charge.

While checking all the functions specified for my car were present, another sales person helped work out the boot based Air Suspension raise/lower buttons don't work if a door is open! My sales person spent an hour with me letting me do all my checks that all functions on the car were working before registering the car and sending me on my way. 10/10 feedback going back for my dealership...

Good to hear it was a good experience as it should be. When did you pickup @mxnrg? Have you posted some pics on another thread?

All,

Just had a conversation with the dealer and there is now a queue of cars awaiting to board the ship from Mexico. Therefore it’s likley that my car will no longer be a mid June delivery...ahhh...
