I hate being on dad duty but someone has to do it. Not sure how to sort this out.

My niece finished work today to find paint on her car including the glass. She works in a industrial estate and next door to it flats are being built so it looks to me where they put up a metal fence and painted it, it's ended up on her car.

It's nothing special just a 1995 polo but it makes it look crap and no one wants blue specs all over there windscreen. Do I try and get it all off with a DA Polisher and charge them (not sure what to use on the glass) or go through insurance and get the building company to pay for it. She's panicking as she's only 22 and doesn't want here policy to go up but being as it's not an accident does it work the same way as if someone hit her? It's just an annoying stupid problem I don't really want to deal with but if it was my car I wouldn't be happy

I would imagine gentle use of paint thinners would get rid of that pretty quickly mate.

It’s generally the way to get rid of overspray that doesn’t respond to polishing.

Would be tempted to use a razor blade edge on the glass.

Popover to Halfords and buy a clay mitt (£14.99), use it with a soapy solution and that will get it all off.

Well the landlord said email him the pictures. I might say look I can do it but you can pay for the materials so give me the cash and i'll sort it out. At least he can pay for the material

On the glass use a Stanley blade held flat against the glass, it’s what they cleaning crews on site use to clean windows/mirrors

You've got some pretty good proof there - hopefully the landlord will see this and agree to get the car properly detailed to remove the paint.

Then you wont have to do the work and if anything goes wrong with your planned removal technique, you wont upset a family member.

Well got the quote today and emailed it to the guy. He says get the work done and get the detailer to invoice me direct and i'll pay him. That's fine but I don't want this guy to then **** about over the money and then not pay so then it's down to me. Would you trust him to do it? I was thinking i'll get my guy to do the invoice and Mr Painter can pay direct and then get the job done after payment?

I've seen this before and people then try to knock the price down or weasel out of it. To do the job it's £216 inc vat

If he's told you in writing that he will pay the invoice in full, you have the proof you need if you have to pursue him at a later date.
If you don't have it in writing, ask for it in writing.
