Hi folks im have a nightmare with an audi TT 180 1999 with full service history 94k i just bought...... problem is the car is overheating....it runs between 94c while driving and 107c when in slow traffic and on a hill according to the 49c aircon test....... the dash guage is at 120+ in the red.....the 51c test show the engine at 90c im not getting any boil over no hoses blown off of steaming expansion bottle but the engine bay is like an oven when opened

i have changed the water pump,
thermostat,thermostat housing,
flushed the cooling system, proper mix of g12,
a new coolant temp sensor.....

also full service new oil, filter, timing belt, drive belt, tensioner, damper, air filter,

oil levels are just over 3/4 on the dipstick

im at my wits end you can really feel the heat in the engine bay it's actually starting to affect belts and stuff it's so hot......
the fans were not kicking in either aircon or main fan so i wired them to a switch and relay to be on full time still makes no difference to the temp.....

i have ordered a new fan control relay for the rad fans but still cannot figure out why its running so damm hot with the fans on all the time......you can feel the heat blasting out the front of the radiator too

the new water pump seems to be circulating ok in the expansion bottle....both rad hoses are hot...a little firm.... so i thought head gasket.........but hot air is fine in the cabin...no white smoke.....no coolant loss or coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant....no power loss.......no mayonaise under the cap...........im freaked out dont know what else to do......pls guys any help im really up a creek here any experienced members or vag mehanics i really need your help......

Sounds like an issue with your fans check the fuses but have a scan done ASAP to prevent head damage

hi thx for the reply i flushed the cooling system yesterday and the water seems to be getting through the hoses from radiator into the engine and out of the engine via the thermostat housing also it looks like the water is circulating in to bottle ok and returning via the small to hose it's weird...i drove it yesterday at full tilt absolute redline driving for over 30 mins and the temp was sitting nice at 93c and on a motorway at 70 she sits at 86c for over an hour it seems when i slow down it sky rockets, thats the strange part as i have hardwired both fans to be on constantly until i get my new fan control relay...

I take it you hoses in and out are hot and you don't have air locks also that both fans are pulling air in from the front and for example one is not blowing causing short cycling of air if they can run with reversed polarity as normal dc motors can

The very thing....cheers chillout good thinking man i rewired the fan polarity and all is well temp normal now

Spot on glad you got it sorted
Sorry to hijack here guys seems I’ve got the same problems as this guy had previously changed everything, bar the rad switch, and fan control module I’m guessing it’s the fan control module that’s screwing me over? I don’t want a fan switch had that on my Renault 5 got turbo and it got annoying lol just want it to run without overheating only over heats in traffic when it’s a hot day or I’m battering it driving along? Many thanks

Changed the control module still no joy m :( I know this is an old thread but if someone knows anything please let me know
