So yeah this happened:

Previously mapped at Darkside with a very different (and pessimistic as suspected) dyno, had some ugly looking boost spikes as well which most likely worked themselves out a bit over time in the ECU:

Overall feels much more responsive throughout the rev range with the new map, can definitely tell the power is allot more linear than before, feels much more like a big n/a petrol engine to drive now.

Forgot to ask Rick but I'm pretty sure this new map started from a stock 1.9tdi file (probably what all tuners do but I'm a bit lost when it comes to this wizardry) as the map Darkside put on seemed to have some weird alternative gear ratio which was fine in lower rpm but total killer for motorway driving mpg as it was always revving high at 60+ mph in 5th, much happier having that back similar to stock now.

I know theirs this whole thing of "dyno dynamics rollers are legit" blah blah but I honestly think Unicorn's were allot more accurate than Darkside's, didn't say what it ran before as I wanted to find out the current dyno figure on these rollers (5bhp more than Darkside's).

Totally forgot I'd asked for a popcorn/hardcut rev limiter as well so that was nice to find, was worried when it first (unexpectedly as I forgot I asked for it) hit as I thought I'd broke the car or something haha but now it's just a nice reminder that I need to shift up and hopefully when I get used to the map I won't be hitting it so much.

For anyone who hasn't seen previous posts/threads the car is: BV43 turbo, straight pipe, front mount intercooler, EGR delete.

This is the 3rd map I've had on the BV43 and each time the car has seemed better and better, won't be getting another one now though obviously as this is spot on, I'm all for getting things done properly once but the other maps were done more out of convenience as I was getting other work done by the people at the same time.

Car is definitely capable of upsetting a few others now, turbo seems to kick in sooner and anyone into torque figures knows 360ft-lb is higher than allot of "quick" car's.

Many thanks to @Rick @ Unicorn Motor Dev.

Glad you got this sorted, despite Darkside claiming to be great diesel tuners I have still to be convinced. Yes they make some stupidly fast cars that run on the 1/4 mile all stripped out running nitrous and a shed load of other mods. But when it comes to tuning something more normal they don't do as good a job as somebody like Rick. The bare figures only tell part of the story, 186bhp to 204bhp doesn't sound that much until you look at the shape of the power and torque curves.
Your car is now making around 60bhp more at 4500 rpm, the area under the curve is what counts more than the actual numbers and there is a fair difference between the Darkside map and Ricks map, You can see the linear power delivery as the power is delivered more like a petrol than a diesel, enjoy.

Think the thing is Darkside is founded and more focused on hardware rather than software, they get parts that people can't find/get and make things where theirs a gap in the market, suppose it wouldn't do anything for their reputation if they ran big amounts of boost on customer cars and destroyed them (although they generally run more than recommended on their own).

Ryan openly admits the Arosa generally needs a new engine after most runs which is not really appropriate for the majority of us haha good publicity for them though it gets allot more views than their track car's but they most likely have the track car's more for fun.

Hello mate I’m looking at fitting the same turbo as yourself and have actually been in contact with darkside for turbo, injectors, front mount and turbo back exhaust. Question is is your turbo and manifold separate or one unit as I know some of them are one piece I asked darkside and they said they should be separate but you’ve done it so you’ll know for sure.

Cheers

You want the earlier BV43 for the 2.0tdi 170 B7 not the later one for a straight swap (think it's bv43a or bv43b or something, should be able to see the difference though and Darksidealso says which is which on the site if that's where your getting it from... I wouldn't buy it from them though as they charge over the odd's), later bv43 is better but more faffing about so may as well go for a Garrett instead and get a custom manifold if your going all out.

If you want advice on what I would suggest for the specifics of each item you want drop us a pm, need a deep wallet though whatever way you go it's 2.5k+ and that's on the cheap.

Yeah I’ve seen a few on eBay that say there for audi, seat,Skoda etc but there without manifold but I’m not sure if mines all one unit or if the turbo unbolts off the mani. I’m also looking at pd150 injectors but suppose I could use pd130 ones really and there a lot cheaper. Exhaust, decat and intercooler I’ll deffo be getting from darkside. Just the turbo and injectors I’m a bit stuck on atm and I’ll keep the cost down buy fitting it all myself then just travel gently to get it mapped.

Turbo bolts off the manifold, pd150 or Bosio are best but turbo is the limiting factor in terms of power if it's bv43 so doesn't really matter if you get pd130 injectors or whatever really.

Drop us a pm if you want to know more anyway.
