A/C compressor S3 2007

So due to goto Germany in a week and as my A/C don't work thought i'd quite it working for the drive over to the ring.

Audi/vw specialist just next to my workplace. So sent it round for a regas. Told me it had a little left in there, pressure tested and leak tested all fine, took the gas fine and also said they tested the output which tells them how much gas is in there, (pressure sensor?) and again all looks fine. Compressor fan is running but says its not pumping the gas.

So weird thing is now the ECON light is always on and wont turn off unless i put into auto which it then does for a short while then switches itself back on and of course no cold air. Now i'm not doubting them as they really seem to know their stuff.

Quoted me around 500 for new compressor fitted (OEM denso)

I have no idea which comp i have, be it the internal clutch version or the external one? I take it there is no cheaper fix other than get it replaced?

But fairplay to them as i thought i was going to be going round there to pay for thin air but they never charged me for the work they done.

Hmm possibly.

Another strange thing is now the econ light will stay off and you can hear the gas noise, hissing sound but doesn't stop and no cold air still.
