Hi all,

I am the happy owner of a Facelift A3 Saloon. The car is full S-LINE (except for the suspension which is Sport). 2.0 TFSI manual 190HP. After trying S3 Saloon Springs+Shocks, the car is much more stiffer than with the stock Sport Suspension but it hasn't lowered at all. I assume that the main reason is the weight. The S3 weights around 160-180 Kg more than mine right?

S3 is 1545Kg
Mine is 1365Kg

I have two options right now:

1.- Purchase the springs at the dealer (around 450 GBP/500 Euro) and keep the S3 Shocks.
2.- Purchase 1500km used A3 TDI 184HP by just 120 Euro and keep the S3 Shocks.

Option 1 is much more expensive than option 2 but will definitely lower the car as I want to. Option 2..well that may be a little bit risky as the 184HP TDI Saloon weights around 30 kg more... Any thoughts on that?

Many thanks guys!

I thought S-line suspension was Sport?

As I understand it the options for Sline/Black Edition suspension are Sport as standard (15mm lower than standard) with the no cost option to revert to standard ("dynamic" in Audi speak). Then the S3 suspension is another 15mm lower than sport.

1545?! No S3 Saloon weighs in at 1470 Kg. RS3 Saloon is 1515 Kg. That's for auto too, manual would a bit lighter.

Hi!

In Spain (at least when I bought it Deceber 2016) it was Sport Suspension (-15mm from Ambition) with no cost and then "S-LINE" Suspension (another -10mm from Sport) Same ride height than S3. A friend of mine's has S-Line Suspension and mine is around 12-15mm taller than his. His car is 2015 Pre Facelift 1.8T manual saloon.

I just checked audi.co.uk and it looks like there is no such an option in UK but enother 10mm lower "S-LINE" suspension is available in Spain and Germany too.

1.- Sport Suspension (-15mm from Standard)
2.- S-Line Suspension (-25mm from Standard) 420EUR
3.-Downgrade to Standard at no cost

Sorry, it looks like our Technical Data Sheets I have seen show "running order weight". This means Driver weight too. Anyway the weight difference is more than 100 Kg from my car. Will this explain the "no lowering" when using the S3 Saloon Springs? I have checked the ETKA and both frontand rear springs+Shocks are S3 ones (purchased in Germany)

Ah, OK, that explains the confusion. I guess our roads in the UK are so bad that no one wants anything lower than "Sport", so they don't bother offering it.

As said before, my friend's Pre-FL Saloon is much lower than mine (he opted for S-Line (-25mm from standard) Suspension.

I have foud S-Line Springs from a MT 2.0 TDI 184HP Saloon (Pre-FL) at a reasonable price with just 1500km. The car is aroud 20-30Kg heavier than mine. That is why I am a little bit worried due to my "S3" Suspension experience :S

Cheers!

Well... I have driven your roads and trust me...some spanish roads are much worst.

I read that getting standard suspension on an S-Line leaves an ugly large gap between the wheels and the arches that some how doesn't look correct on the eye. Is that right?

Absolutely right. You have a full S-Line car that in some certain situations look like an All-road :(

Hahaha! Too funny! Thanks for double clarifying. The video reviews say to get an S-Line and standard suspension, no word of the weird look. Thankfully folk, like you, on these forums give the real world advice! Just as well I've stuck with and S-Line with an S-Line -suspension on my order! Thank you!!!

You can see the difference in this photo. On the left is my A3 s-line with sports suspension whilst on the right is a standard A3. As you can see the ride height is different. Other differences I have 18 inch wheels whilst the other are 16 inch. Mine is a FL model whilst the other is a PFL.

I am getting mad looking for this springs!! :( I just want to stick to a fully OEM car. It is absolutelly imposible to find any 2.0 TFSI FL manual front wheel drive car with S-Line optional Springs (-25mm from standard) to check its VIN...

I have a FL S-line, and selected "dynamic" standard suspensions. Yes, it makes the car looks less sporty (larger gap above the wheels), particularly if you look for it, but I have had sport and s-line suspensions in the past, and neither were comfortable.

I am glad I have gone for dynamic/standard suspensions, given the condition of our roads. Makes an S-Line quite a comfortable car. I wouldn't change my choice.

If you read the various professional reviews on the latest A3 models, you will see that keeping standard suspensions is often recommended...
