Hi all,

Just a quick one. My stop start doesn’t appear to work. Car was brand new and delivered end of January. To be honest I haven’t really had it much in efficiency/comfort. I have tried efficiency a few times, but stop start never seems to work? It’s just shows the E on the dash and the A with a circle round it and a line through. I have also made sure it’s activiated. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Is it manual or S-Tronic? I'd assume the latter from the delivery date.

Does it never ever work? Engine needs to be warm, exterior temp above about 4C.

Do you have your air con on LO or HI?

If so then stop start will not work if air con is on either.

Personally I hate stop start. Pain in the *** and when I get the chance, I’ll code it out so that it’s off from when you start the car.

Only benefit to it is low tax.

And it won't initiate when you've the climate control on and it's warm outside......that'll happen Whenever this mini ice age is over that is

Agreed - it's spring and still below 5... I believe my battery is on the blink due to the cold snap as my start/stop has also stopped working, though my S3 is 4 years old so this would make sense, I would get it checked by the dealer as you'll be covered under warranty, assuming you try the suggestions and they still fail.

Also, the A3/S3 manual gives a list of the conditions needed to fulfil the start/stop requirements so might be worth checking that.

Mine works when it should, and I seem to be in the minority of people here that actually likes it.

Also, if S-Tronic, it won't operate in Sport mode

The principle is fine but the latest iteration in the FL has gone too 'agressive', cutting the engine before the car actually comes to a full halt in many cases, at which point the steering locks up. It's downright dangerous sometimes.

You’re not alone. I quite like it. It’s easy to control with the throttle and brake. Encourages gentle use of the controls.
Basically I determine when it kicks in by controlling the brake pedal.

If the OP is getting the A/circle/cross out icon, it means that the Start Stop function is activating, but the conditions are not in line for the engine to stop.

Agree but happens in my PFL 16 plate. But didn't in my 64 plate A3.

Otherwise I don't mind start stop really. Doesn't bother me much, although recently I have been turning it off more frequently.

My mums A1 start-stop basically never works while even in these temperatures mine has worked within a mile of driving.

The pfl start stop is a far better implementation of it as it is easier to control just from the brake pedal and it doesn't cut out early like the fl.
I don't mind it as long as it's not a constant off/on in queing traffic as it does become tiresome.
However over the last 12 months it's hardly ever worked and the dealer has a huge list of excuses as to why it won't. When it does work though it's usually in the scenario that the dealer says it won't lol

I like it for when I'm waiting for the Mrs whilst she goes to the shops - refuse to go into shops these days unless its click and collect or Halfords...

I just turn it off immediately after starting the car. Like stop/start is really going to help my economy (or lack thereof)!

Exactly, I control it, it doesn’t control me.

Thanks for the replies. To be fair I didn’t use it in previous cars, but it bugs me the fact it doesn’t seem to work. Most the time it’s in dynamic anyway :sly:

Mine only seems to work when it wants to as well (and I've went to great lengths to make sure criteria is being met..)

The problem is you can't do that any more.
