Hey guys, 2002 S3 BAM, wondering if there is a special tool needed to remove the gearbox drain/fill plugs.

Cheers

I just got a drain plug kit for about £8 from ebay. Make sure you check you can undo the fill plug first before emptying the gear box fluid. There's also a drain on the side of the transfer box. The fill plug is awkward to get to in-between the powersteering pipes.

Strangely, mine was a 14mm allen socket from memory?! - Either way (as above) :)

This forum helps me soooo much. Done mine recently - All good now on the changes/ worth doing yourself.

We used good old gravity and a piece of hose to fill it back up - after doing the bevel box too. (Fed it up the front passenger wheel arch).

Took 2.7 > 2.8 litres.

Piece of cake once you jack the car up.

Actually... that also rings a bell... been a while since I have done one.... maybe thinking of the rear diff plugs...

trying not to think about gearboxes at the minute... bit of a taboo subject lol

<tuffty/>

My special tool excluding myself of course was a set of mould grips, mine had completely unnecessary security splined plug,

Just my luck, it was the M16 Security Spline, so ive ordered one off ebay!
