Dealer said an A3 with the technology pack including virtual cockpit will be worth £700 more after 3 years come trade in time on a PCP deal compared to one without so you are only paying half the £1400 cost. Only I can not see this option on the Audi PCP calculator. If you own the vehicle outright will the car be worth £700 more come trade in time?

As always, it depends on whether you're buying or selling. Ask yourself if you would pay £700+ for a VC on a 3 year old car and you have your answer.

Probably would buy a used one with VC over one without as it will probably be standard by then on most cars. Then it depends if the purchaser prefers analogue clocks which may be an optional extra one day. Audi have increased the minimum future value on cars with the tech pack though by £700 so they must assume a car with VC will be more desirable than one without in 3 years

I guess it would be more valuable, that's almost a given. But £700, where is that figure coming from - they're plucking that from thin air and will that outweigh the amount of miles etc you'd be doing? See, there is that many variables I find it hard to believe you can just pluck £700. If the car is in perfect condition, low mileage etc after 3 years then okay that's fine it's going to be more valuable but I don't think the noticeable difference being the dials would warrant a £700 price tag. Obviously you'll get some who may want that feature but I doubt they'd be willing to pay an extra £700 on a used car for it, maybe a couple hundred i.e. £250-400.

One of many extras that's mainly development outlay and probably now costs Audi next to nothing to fit to a new car. It makes good business sense and will still make Audi another £300+ on every car if they can persuade PCP buyers to spend an extra £1400 by promising half back after 3 years.
As for trade-in, it will depend upon perceived desirability and what the market will pay for a VC at the time. A Maffew says, I doubt that will be anything like £700 though.

Sounds like sales spiel

Not saying I agree with the salesman but he probably just based it on the car, as a whole, being worth 50% after 3 years, hence the £700
Bit of a rough ars*d calculation though.

I would be more worried about the new A3 pushing down your future value not by having the VC or not.

In my experience if you’re worried about trade in value don’t add a single option as trade in values take absolutely no options into account. Audi will tell you they’re taking them into account but you’ll struggle to get within 5% of a webuyanycar valuation at any major car dealer come trade in time. Wbac just ask Mileage and service history, no option to add options and bmw/audi/Vw have all been amazed at how much more wbac offer:gun2:

If however you can get a private sale, desirable options will certainly make your car more appealing. Problem is, a car at Plus 20k is often a difficult sale

Audi dealer produced me a quote that said A3 5 door black edition 1.5 has a mimimim future value on PCP after 3 years 10k miles/year of £14100 with the tech pack added its £14800 so that means over the 3 years it's only costing £700 to have it when you hand the car back. Therefore they are giving it a value on the car of £700 correct? Might not be worth that much to someone buying it second hand but obviously they are trying to make it attractive to the PCP customer.

Right....Options=Desirability on the used car market ergo higher asking price, ask for 2 quotes one without the VC and one with.....GFMV should be different,l have sold my last 2 pcp cars privately and options do count A LOT....Most Sheep/PCP audi renters trade their Fleeces into the Audi Sheperds.....When their car is worth between £1500-£2200 more on the used car market

Do you have VC with your tech pack and think it's worth it? I think the analogue clocks do look good even with the vehicles switched off whereas you just end up with a black instrument cluster with VC but the A3 just lacks the newer tech other VW group brands now have costing much less like the polo and golf.

You'd be better seeing VC for yourself tbh. Some like it some don't.
I have it as part of Tech Pack Advanced and think it's great. £1400 is a decent amount of cash if ordering from new.
But what tou have to remember is that there's more to VC than just appearance. You can choose how the dials look, customise where things appear and switch things between the pop up screen and the dash. Then there's the other stuff you get as part of the TPA on top of that.
I'd go to a dealers and have a play around with it, provided the person who's demonstrating it knows all about it which they don't always (at my handover I ended up showing the salesman stuff he didn't know!). Even better, get an owner near you.

Options are so often bespoke, very few significantly affect a used vehicles price per se, but do impact the desirability to prospective buyers. Many salesmen I have spoken with over the years suggest using a third as a guide, but - personally - my criteria has always been 1) Do I really want to pay £x for it 2) Will I really 'use' it and then, after these, 3) Do I think anyone else will see it as a useful addition when buying off me :)

It also depends on the model.

Someone in the market for a used basic A3 model as a runaround isn't likely to care about VC, whereas someone in the market for an S3 may not be prepared to settle for one without it. It's also more functional in the S3.
