Hi guys.

I have S3 8l AMK and i'm trying to remove my turbo cause i dropped a clamp inside it when i was replacing the TIP.

The problem is that i disconnected everything from the turbo but i can't find out how to get it out from the engine bay.

Is it going from top or bottom? Do i need to remove the sub frame if it's from the botom? If it's from top do i have to remove the exhaust manifild or just lower the engine a little?

Sorry for my English.

Go from the top.
Take off air filter/cone filter then you will have more room.
From there onwards place a rubber glove over the mouth of the tip obviously after removing the dropped clamp.
No need to remove subframe or go from the bottom.
Just remove what I said and you will be able to see more clearly..

I tried with a magnet, but i think that it falls under the compressor wheel because i can't see it anymore.
That's why i'm trying to remove the turbo and hope to get out the clamp when i can see what is going on inside.

The only way to see inside the turbo was with my phone making video with flashlight.

You tried to spin the wheel by hand first to move the clamp then magnet it out?

It’ll be at that point when you finally get the turbo out you realise it was sat on the subframe the whole time :tonguewink:

Could you suck it out with a vacuum?

The first thing i did was to try and spin the wheel, but it spins freely. That's why i guess it falls under the wheel and the only way is to remove the turbo and wiggle it uppside down with the magnet.

I don't think that it will come out with vaccum.
I tried everything i can think of, but turbo removal is inevitable IMO.

Also i have video where the clamp is clearly visible
, but after 10-th try with magnet it's "gone". So im pretty sure it's inside...

I think i find out what ks holding the turbo.

It's the oil return pipe. I didn't undo it.
I read in this forum thag there is no way to undo the 2 bolts under the turbo so tbe only way is to undo it from the oil sump.
The question is: do i have to drain the oil to remove the oil return pipe?

I got mine out going from the top.
Horrible job to be honest.
Wait untill the oil pipes are going back on that is the worst bit !!

How did you get it out from the top??
I think it's impossible.

You can remove and refit K04's from the top... its awkward (what job isn't) but doable... have done it myself before a few years ago...

Remove anything that looks like its in the way and you will be able to get to the bits you need to... it will come out gearbox side...

However... I suspect your car is left hand drive... this will make it near impossible to remove from the top I would imagine as your servo will be in the way

Yes. It's left hand drive. So i will have to remove the right driveshaft and maybe DP to get it out from the bottom.
Thanks for the replies!

I had to remove subframe and exhaust for mine. Those oil lines... could not hate them more...
