De-badge or not de-badge??

Thinking of taking mine off after the recent issues I've had.

Is it as easy as heat it up, pull it off, polish it off?

Also thinking of the carbon mirror caps, the aluminium ones are so ****** distinctive they scream FASSSTTTT from miles off

boiling water over the badge then a soft trim tool behind and they come right off.

De - just the rear though front sits on a little plinth moulded in the grille.

Have now decided to debadge and removed both front and back badges. Back looks fine but front looks like something is missing as removing the badge leaves the plinth that can clearly be seen.

Anyone removed the plinth?

Was thinking fine hack saw blade and smooth it down with some wet and dry

Thoughts?

I never seen the point in de-badging a performance car. Most people know what it is anyway, so the only people you'll fool are the ones who don't really car what cars what.

Plus, I always think of de-badged cars as the lower spec cars, which they don't want anyone to know that new shiny BMW or Audi, is in fact the lowest powered BMW or Audi money can buy. Somehow de-badging it, it suddenly goes from a 1.6l to a 2.0l.

And in the case of several BMW owners, their 3 series 1.6 suddenly becomes an M3, with the addition of an M3 badge on the back.

I debadged mine for the cleaner look, also put a smaller sized (legal) rear number plate on (I got a 5 digit private plate)

I completely removed the rear badges on ours and got a smaller but legal number plate too, think it makes the rear look cleaner

.

I’ve never understood why anyone would want to debadge ANY car, let alone a so called performance car.

Any numpty with a vague interest in cars would know what model it was, and everyone else won’t give a sh!t.

I keep reading that it apparently makes the back look “cleaner”........cleaner than a car with badges? Nah, I just don’t get it.

Quite.

People who don’t know anything about cars clearly don’t care either. I couldn’t give a rats @rse what people think of my car because I like it, I’m just saying that I don’t see the point in debadging that’s all, if you like it then go boil the kettle and dig out your fishing line:racer:

Exactly what i'm saying, I like mine how it looks hence why I did it. I wanted to understate it a little especially with all the S3 thefts we keep hearing about. Its the small changes that put our personal touch on cars which is part of the enjoyment of owing them.

Absolutely.

I don’t go after anyone with a different opinion to mine, after all that is what makes us all different.

You prefer de-badged and I don’t, no dramas this end:footy:

see ive thought about black gloss front rings, but then in my eyes if you do that you need the same for the S3 badge...but then it doesnt stand out as nicely.....like you've called me once before, posing basterwerd

its the front S3 badge matching the front rings that would bother me, and thered be a part of me that would be slightly bothered with having black fronts and chrome rears......chrome to match the exhaust tips :smirk:

I don't like the way the grill looks with the front S3 grill badge removed because the plinth it slots into stands out like a sore thumb, so going to black gloss the front badge and put it back to see what it looks like as I dont want it to stand out at all and no badge just looks like something is missing

Gotta keep the rings. That’s what you’re paying a ten percent premium for, over a VW badge!
