Hi All,

Newbie here, awesome forum! been a member for a while but usually watching in the background or get answers via the search.... the search has stumped me on this one though..

Long story short i hit a pothole yesterday and it cracked my suspension spring, not the greatest start to a weekend! ... after being on here, ECP and GSF i have admitted defeat.

So the motor is 2005 Sportback 2l TFSI Quattro SLine... she is a beauty... is the SLine suspension the same as Sports? there are so many different options on these sites that i am lost and i ideally need to pick a set of front ones up tomorrow as need it.

Any help, links etc would be massively appreciated!

Cheers
Craig

This isn’t going to be a great deal of help I know.....
Unless you are going to fit uprated suspension (ie new shocks and springs) then your best bet is to match the new springs to the old....
Genuine springs are marked with a series of different colour paint marks and you really need to clean the old ones to see what you have.
It seems a tricky business to identify what springs you have as not only do you need the chassis number you are going to need to know the PR code for the suspension type .
This code is written on the sticker in the spare wheel well and on the identical sticker inside the service history book .
Tbh I think you’re best off finding a friendly Audi dealer (if such a thing exists, lol) and enlisting their help....
Alternatively do a parts request via this site......
Of course you could just fit any old spring from an aftermarket parts supplier but you might end up with a car either too low or high etc .

Hey Nessy, thanks for the response appreciated. You're right about it being tricky!

Keen just to get the front 2 replaced with the normal ride height for reasons mentioned, i use it as an every dayer, and the wife drives it so dont want something too harsh hence not upgrading the whole car... i think getting in contact with Audi is my best option, shame as Eurocarparts have 35% off until midnight... what is the PR code?

Thanks in advance much apprecicated... I come from a Ford RS background, much easier with those!

Probably not very helpful but this is the knackered spring.

This is the way to go, 10mm lower than Sline also you can keep your old shocks.
Just check the part no. Eibach website.
The ride is better than standard and the 4 springs will probably be cheaper than the front 2 from main dealers.

Cheers for this. Wife isn't convinced ..... Does make sense. Sure they would be good with the old shocks? Have 89k on them.

Tbh you might be better off going for the Eibach option mentioned above, I bet the main dealer price for a pair of springs is more than that!
The PR code refers to a list of every option/piece of equipment the car had fitted at the factory that is listed on the sticker I mentioned in my first post , eg suspension type, brakes, trim , engine etc .
You need to become familiar with these codes for your particular A3 as it is essential to know them when you order parts , especially brakes!
Going back to your springs; it all depends on how much you ‘value’ the factory spec.
I’d heard and read that many people dislike the S-line as having rather crashy and harsh suspension and it’s one of the aspects I like least about my own car.....
But, I recently had snow tyres fitted during the recent cold spell (16” tyres on 7Jrims) and the ride was a revelation.
All this time I’ve been (mentally) criticising the S-Line suspension when in fact it’s down to the factory 18” alloys and low profile tyres!
They look fantastic but don’t contribute to a nice ride IMHO.

Not surprised , it's 225 40 isn't it ?

So that's a 90mm profile , compare that to a Nissan 350Z and Vauxhall Insignia 245 45 which is 110.25mm .

Thanks for the help all.... I am hoping to claim off the council (blood out of a stone I know)... so unsure how replacing all 4 will help my claim ... may think i am taking the ****... however further down the line that is the plan to do... She is mint everywhere else, so want to keep it up.

Spoke to Audi and its sports suspension, not sline suspension, it has sline every where else so that surprised me! ... they quoted £242 inc VAT for a pair...

@Nessy - just upgraded all the brakes to Brembo, and yes went through a similar ordeal!

@ahtcap - thanks for the link, read a few reviews mentioning 1 week turnaround for delivery, have you used them before?

Great forum, will get some pics of the girl up when she isnt so wonky!

If Audi have told you it’s a sports suspension then quite frankly they don’t know what they’re talking about. S Line is 10mm lower than sport suspension.
The only place you can get original S Line springs from is Audi or from TPS(which may be cheaper).
You definately want S Line springs though as sports springs will leave it 10mm higher.

If you clean the old spring up you need to take note of the coloured dots on it and if you get new S Line springs then they need to have the same coloured dots on them.

Yes i have used them before, delivery wasn't next day but it was free.I bought springs, shocks, top mounts and drop links from them about 12 months ago.

For the price Audi have quoted for a pair of springs, you can, as mentioned above, get a full set of Eibach Pro springs which is going to be a better option. I'd definitely consider changing the dampers at the same time though.

Damian @ DPM Performance

@ab1702 - i questioned him about it and he said 'yep definitely sports'... which doesnt make sense as mentioned everything else is Sline... will get the colour dots... however after all this i think all round Eibach is going to be the way to go, way too much hassle trying to locate stock parts and if they are better and cheaper its a no brainer...

@DPM - would you be able to quote me on springs and dampers please (and only springs)... also how quick could you get them out to me? (i live in Oxfordshire).

Thanks!

Yeah me too please on the Shocks and Springs, and just Springs

Eibach springs ordered, they arrive tomorrow... just after some Bilstein dampers that can arrive by Wed and we are in business. Also going to source new bushes, and top mounts - anyone have any recommendations at all? seen via searching a few people have gone with the RS3 or S3 version... thought if i am going this far may aswell get everything replaced at the same time...

Thanks!

Good choice mate, that’s what I did on mine when one of mine went instead of getting another s Line spring.
The ride is miles better and I’m just using the standard shocks. Will also look a bit better as it will be a few mm lower

Thanks for your help - what people are saying above makes sense... mechanic said pretty much same price to fit the dampers as it would the springs so may as well get it all done at the same time... however struggling to find decent priced Bilstein that can deliver this week.... the search continues...

What suspension mounts, bearings and bushes did you go for?

PM sent, I have the same car, had the same issues and some parts left over. Not sure the site is going to allow it for some reason, so let me know if it doesn't arrive ;)
