Hi guys, so I decided I would spray my lights with a tint gloss spray. Was going to get the garage to do it for me but they wanted £80 to wrap them. Used the spray before so got 4 cans for £10, literally only used quarter of a can if that.

Think I may have gone a tad to dark but luckily all looks ok on the dark . Just needs a little polish to bring back the gloss (believe that should work)

Let me know what you think lads!

I really like that. Nice stealthy look. :)

lol are you driving into an oven to cure them ? What about all the dust adhering to them ? Overspray ? When you clean the car won't they jetwash off ?

no oven required dude, dried in about 5 mins. Would have been better to do in a garage but was a nice day so had no issues with dust . I covered most of the car wish I used newspaper aswell but had a piece of cardboard I moved around while spraying. Had a few marks on the body but used the tint removal spray wiped straight off.

Had them done before on my m3 only thing that will remove is the tint removal spray or light diluted mix of white spirit so no issues with jetwash, rain etc. Works a treat imo.

Thanks for the replies

I like them with the lights on.. tempted to set your rears as DRL's in carista or vagcom? I did the same on my A4 as prefered the tinted lights when they was lit up.

Great job. Looks really nice on a white car.

Have you seen women tights on the rear lights?
That is hilarious
Cheap mod must say but too chavy.

Proper job is with tint film.
You can easily do it your self also.

I’m planning that on my rears but not as extremely dark as yours @CharlieSAudi.
You can get pulled for that, where I live

Thanks mate.

Haha I definitely have seen the chavy tights mod not my cup of tea ...

I was given a roll of the tint film tried on one of my days off. Just couldn’t get the hang of it and wasted a few hours trying lol.

Yeah mine are quite dark forgot how dark it goes so I may end up doing it again with fewer coats.

It’s abit naughty were I live (central London) but they haven’t bothered me at all plus my tints are fairly dark aswell suppose they got bigger fish to fry round here.

Just my opinion but I have never understood why people like this. It looks so cheap. Like last decade F&F ricer tuning. No offence meant but stealth/sleeper look anno 2018 means something else for me entirely.

Totally see where you coming from bud. I really like the blacked out look not so much alloys now days I did in my first car days but it’s each to their own. Like with tints etc.

Personally I did go to dark, my friend with his s3 has got the correct shade tint looks the part but like I said I need to wash off and start again for a more subtle tint.

Also my opinion for stealth/sleeper is say an A5 with the badges still on but an S5 engine inside (just a random example)... imo a sleeper for an S5 is a tad to late you would already no what your up against so I wouldn’t hide that.

I also like the idea of tinting the rear lights but i think yours are too dark for my taste. I like to be able to see the reflectors with just a hint of tint.

Yeah see I want to be able to see a tad of red from the plastic.

I’ve had a crankshaft pulley problem making a terrible noise lately, had to move my car and next thing I new the power steering went etc. Turns out the belt for the alternator tore half off (which was random because I only had the issue with the crankpulley) and also noticed a tear on the supercharger pulley belt so have all the parts plus my rs grill to fit Sunday.

Anyone have any issues with the belts / crankshaft pulley ?

If I’ve got enough time going to re tint the lights

Appreciate the feedback though guys gives me a boost to get it the way I want.

I know you didnt enjoy the film I have used medium smoke on the old car, managed the fogs ok but like you, struggled with the rear lights as the outside clusters had curves. Buuuut I took it to a local wrapper and he did the rest of the rear lights on the cheap as I had the film already and had been to him allot in the past with other bits and cars.. soo point is, ring you local wrapper, tell them you got the stuff and sure they will do a good deal to chuck them on, takes them 10 mins max! easy tenner for them lol

I really prefer the outcome acheieved by film over the spray, just a personal thing.

Light tint

Haha tell me about it, didn’t think it through normally a mate does them for me but he’s away!.

Thinking pop by there a day before to check, quite a nice dude so he’ll tell me straight. If so I’ll remove and do it again lighter after.

Saw once a police show series in tv where a guy used ladies tights on hes taillights. That also rhymes. LOL
It was hilarious as coppers laughed also and told him to remove it right away.
Got stopped because of that.

I'm getting mines tinted with light vinyl soon. Awaiting the film and will see.

Good luck with yours

Haha yeah I’ve seen that too god knows who bright idea it was lol ... ok bud yeah a lot of my mates got theirs done with a film. I tried myself and regretted the time I spent doing it lol not as easy as I thought I blame the film.
Will have to get some pictures up when you do.

Cheers mate fingers cross really can’t be asked removing it.

I had my rear lights tinted with film on my audi a3,

came out way too dark for my liking and ended up taking the film off the following day.

I think a subtle light smoke looks a lot better and OEM compared to a dark tint.

Picture of rear lights tinted below before I removed the film:

Looking to tint them again sometime soon but will be a light smoke

All down to personal preference at the end of the day, what I think looks good, someone else will think looks sh** and vice versa haha!

See I quite like that lol everyone’s different right.

Think I like it because of the window tints but without them would just look odd imo.

Be good to see with a light tint though, was worried I would have to remove mine as it’s the tint spray (abit harder to remove) but spoke to the MOT guy and is happy to pass it as it’s not actually that noticeable with the lights on at night which is the main thing.

Must be a friendly MOT guy :) there has to be a reflector on the rear that reflects light (for when you are parked at night so cars can see your stationary vehicle) in the absence of your rear lights acting as a reflector, you would be told to add little reflector squares or strip usually. Friends bora is completely blacked out tails, and he is a copper (well military police lol) and they are strict letting cars on site that arent up to spec, this is what he had to do to get his through and is apparently an MOT point. (i think they are much more strict than normal MOT testers who would prob not care)

Oh that makes sense never thought of it for the car being stationary. Luckily police haven’t bothered and I live in London Bridge ( think they have bigger fish to fry ) it seems to be an issue with areasnlole Essex etc for the boy racers. My mum even had her tints removed when she went there to see her friend haha criminal mum !.. fingers cross mot goes through that would be all I need another bill. Especially with being of work due to my hand injury, not cool.

So after the worry that my lights will not pass. She failed for something I didn’t even think it would emissions !!...

Luckily I got it sorted as it was just that, oh and a blocked washer jet but I’ll sort that out. I work for Autoglass so I’ve helped a few customers with there jets problems.

Ive taken a picture of the results which mean absolutely nothing to me, he said he wasn’t to sure could have been a spark plug, possibly has been remapped incorrectly (doesn’t feel like it has though). Would any of you legends know what’s going on with these figures please ?.

if it not visibly smoking you could speak to the person who mapped it?

I was just looking through the new May MOT guide, man they got brutal, not even allowed HID's any more.
But also found the reflecter part, and as of May, additional reflector tape added is no longer an acceptable work around for tinted lights..

Capture

That’s odd, the new rules suggest that lights that are painted over don’t need reflectors.

It doesnt mean you can fully tint and not have a reflective surface any more, just that you can no longer use the reflective tape as an alternative if you have tinted them so much they are no longer reflective.
Now says if you cant see over half the reflective surface its a major which is stilla fail.. so you would have to leave half your light untinted ...
i dont think the 2 tone tail light look is going to catch lol

if you are reading the second line that is not applicable to road cars which do have front and rear light, you need to read the whole doc but some of this applies to track converted cars that dont require lights.

Oh ok good to know, haha yeah I think I’ll leave the two tones.

I personally haven’t got it mapped going to be something I do at some point.

Doesn’t feel mapped or anything so god knows, only thing I have noticed is the engine shake from sitting in the car from time to time and slow cold start turning the car on takes a few seconds to turn over.

I had an old friend pass it for me but will be good to find out what’s going on, maybe when I do the service it may sort it or get it mapped.

Is the actual CAT still fitted to the car, or has it been gutted welded back up. High HC & CO values usually mean failing or removed CAT.

Light smoke film arrived some time ago but had time just now to fit it.

Right hand rear lamp done as only for trial

Not bad at all but think slightly darker, medium smoke would’ve been better.

Will need to cut out windows for reverse light and indicators, as this film already dim them.

Personally think it looks really good @KrisKrk just gives a nice finish to the backend.

Thnx @CharlieSAudi .

They needed few days to settle in and stick on properly and look better than when fitted. Still, I've ordered Medium smoke to compare and go from there. Think it will be better anyway.

Just noticed it now Charlie, have you ever had any problem with Coppers for your front windows tint? It looks significantly tinted.

In the past and on previous car I had 35% tint on oem front green glass, which has 18% tint apparently and I was holding my breath each time cop car passed by. By law, you cannot have more than 25% overall tint (75% VLT)

I live in London so think the coppers have bigger fish to fry, I’ve always had my car tinted but was only ever pulled up for it in my MK4 golf days 8 years ago :).. made me peel them off but this was one douche bag over the city.

Mine currently show 20% light in and the rears are at 5%. I know what you mean about driving pass them but luckily that feeling is long gone lol.
