Facelift Known fault with FL RS3 - ticking exhaust valve..

So I'm collecting my car tomorrow and have been informed that Audi UK have said there's nothing wrong with it...
The ticking is the cat pre heat cycle which only happens in Comfort mode and nothing was mentioned about the exhaust rattle even though the Service Manager said that it didn't sound right..
As mentioned, they've painted the rear hubs, going to 'upgrade' the nut covers and wait for me to take it back later in the year once this Turkish issue HAS been accepted by Audi UK.
When I collect it tomorrow I will ask why other owners have had their exhausts replaced if there's no issue...

I had my hubs painted by Audi. Within weeks they had rusted right through again!

Nooooooooooooooo.

I did happen to mention that if it happened again then I'd be back... :hi:

Are you based in E15..?... if so what dealer did you take it to?

Thread link copied into my email.

Already had a reply from Executive office, someone will be in touch within 24-48 hrs.

I’ve also sent it to a motoring magazine.

Let’s see who says what.
Automated response that - they will call you though and contact the dealer. It can only help. My dealer finally conceded the point today (I quoted the TP reference number to them but I think the wider issues with my car may have played a part!) and have the parts on order.

The tech said that cars as late as mine should not be affected (Nov build) - as far as I am aware every autumn and winter build is the same?

Try and coat them with gtechniq c5 mate including the front bells. Works a treat, that’s what I did after I painted mine with hammertie smooth

Thanks bud.
I'll see how they go and if they do rust through, Audi can do them for me again using your recommendation..:thumbs up:

Collected my car complete with nice painted hubs and was informed by the dealer that amazingly Audi UK had received a number of calls today regarding the same exhaust issue as mine and that the dealer would be in touch once Audi UK had assessed the situation..
Regarding the hubs, the guy said that if it happens again he will use a technique that was used at another franchise dealer which worked..

We'll see...

I've booked mine in for week after next for the cold start rattle. I also noticed last night driving home with the sunroof tilted open there's a pretty loud rattle coming from the exhaust when you let off the power... It disappears in 'S' but is there in comfort. You don't hear it with the roof/windows closed but it sounded awful!

So I’ve just seen this epic thread and lots of great info, thanks everyone.

Just went from a PFL RS3 and Picked up a TTRS a few weeks back. Just returned from Audi, confirmed today that they have ordered a new silencer and they are swapping it out and they are swapping on most FL RS3 and TTRS, at least they are in Sydney.

Not too fussed because this exhaust needs to go, I’m not coping with the sound after coming from the PFL RS3!!!

Hoping to work out how to get the Audi Sport / Akrapovic exhaust that Audi have been talking about for the TTRS since mid last year!!!

Keep us updated if it works or not. The ticking sound on a cold start is awful to listen to!

How are you finding the TTRS other than the sound? I'm loving it so far!

Well I am assuming it will be sorted because when I drove into the service centre they provided the info that they are changing the silencers and it’s a known issue. They worked on a TTRS yesterday so let’s see!!!

Loving the TTRS, it’s a great drive, got the options I wanted and have black wheels with all black options possible.

Just not loving the exhaust, I went from an RS5 with a capristo exhaust, to the PFL RS3 and now to the nice but not mental sounding TTRS.

I’d get used to the ticking on cold start if I were you, had a call from the Executive Office today.

Noise is as stated for Catalyst warm up phase on the new engine.
They aren’t going to be introducing any kind of fix as there is nothing to fix....period.

Make of that what you will.

I’ve also had a discussion with another third party on it and to be honest I’m not giving it any more thought, life’s too short.

Oh. I hope mine still goes ahead on Monday!!

Besides my tips are flaking like a pig.

Sounds like Audi are making excuses as ever. The customer service is truly cr*p.

Excuses or whatever Matt, it’s the way the Daza engine has been designed so Audi see nothing wrong in its cold starting procedure.

You can’t get blood out of a stone I’m afraid.

Simple answer is if people don’t like it then it’s either get cold start mapped out completely or live with it.

So why does it disappear in Sport mode?

So why does it disappear in Sport mode?

Maybe S overrides cold start

They probably forgot to test that in the development stage....

Blood out of a stone still springs to mind.

They have read this thread though.....

They ‘monitor’ Owners Forums so I was told.....

Audi, you really need to get a grip with your after sales because it is just shy of sh1t...
I've said it many times but just for you, how can a Flagship model have so many niggling, cheap, annoying issues? Not mentioning the brake failure that has been mentioned...
It's not acceptable even though it's a brilliant car and I doubt I'll buy another RS, I'll probably go for a Merc or BM. :thumbs up:

It has been designed for the exhaust to rattle? Surely it’s an engine setup which when combined with the exhaust rattles which is bad luck. You’d have thought they would have fixed this before release, they would have noticed.

Hopefully I get my new backbox Monday and the anodising lasts forever *dreaming*. I’m not that bothered if I have to listen to the noise, I’m just interested by the sound of the new exhaust because most say it sounds better overall...

While they're reading this thread, can they also treat the brake hubs so they don't rust like an old Lada.

+1, Audi’s are going rapidly downhill regards to niggly problems. Customer service is cr*p, never admit liability when they know full well that it’s their doing.

Why we keep buying them I don’t know. Golf’s are really nice..... if I had to get a more sensible car it would be a Golf not an Audi.

I don’t doubt for a minute this thread is high in the list of monitoring from Audi, love a good spy they do.

Wonder if the issue on mine or maybe the TTRS is different ?? Mine is obviously bad on a cold start but I can hear it once it’s warned up and it’s doesn’t make a difference if it’s in sport or not, I can still hear it. I drove to Audi and they heard it straight away and confirmed the issue immediately

Anyway, going back in to “sort it out” in 2 weeks or so and I will let you know the outcome.

I’m not too worried about the cold start, my RS5 sounded like something was going to break when it started, I can hear it once it’s warm and that’s what I’m concerned about

That’s it dropped off for the backbox.

Will come back later with the result!

Oh ***! Will be asking my dealer today what happens if the paint flakes again....

I have an exhaust rattle, a drivers side window rattle over bad roads, like really bad rattle as well as horrendous break squeal. Hubs 2 weeks in to ownership rusting. Very annoying. My Golf R was faultless

Morning Team.

Just spoke to my dealer asking when are they ordering a new backbox for me and without hesitation, they said that they'll order it today!
I mentioned the new tips flaking and he said that if they keep flaking, does a replacement have to be supplied to which I said that if it's my car and under warrenty then yes, I'd expect a new part...

And so it goes on....:thumbs up:

After a couple of hundred miles... the dreaded rattle in now here!

I have an exhaust rattle, flaking tips, a badly creaking drivers seat, a Haldex that causes the engine to bog down and my hubs have been painted and are still rusting.

I can see us all having trouble getting them replaced just for paint. Watch the centres offer to hand paint them with a brush.

Lol, I can imagine Audi suggesting that.

I'm not a huge fan of the black exhaust tips. They get lost in the rest of the black pack and don't stand out like I'd like. I wonder if it's chrome like underneath...if so, I'd be included to get rid of all the paint rather than have some cheap and nasty flaked tips.

Yep I made that comment in all seriousness, haha! I will battle it to the bitter end and get a hold of Audi UK when they do flake... but the bitter end if I did fail would be having them anodised myself. I’d even suggest to Audi to pay for anodisation if they aren’t willing to replace the box.

Before I had them I also much preferred the chrome tips but I’m not sure if I’d have mine done chrome to be honest, the Black tips are the signature look now for the sports exhaust. The chrome tips were high maintenance which was good in the way that I kept them clean on the S3, the Black tips are easily overlooked and even mine have built up badly now. The 5-pot definitely throws out a lot of soot.

It would just be bare metal underneath, which could be polished but that is harder to keep than chrome I’d say but then again... nothing to pit! The black tips are actually black chrome.

Are we any closer to knowing if the exhaust are getting replaced with a revised part? Or just identical parts?

Interesting idea but how would you suggest getting rid of the paint to give a good end result without taking the rear box off (preferably) ??

Oh I don't have any clue how it would be done! I think I'd also like some kind of matt black look. That said, I'm so lazy I'll probably just end up leaving them to chip and get tatty.

Thought you'd say that !!

Mine are not yet chipping like others on here.
The only issue i have is the slight rust on the hubs.
The exhaust ticking could well be the catalyst heat cycle, unless there is in fact a manufacturing fault.
These cars are new and I believe it will take Audi UK (and Audi as a whole) a while, perhaps a year, to build up a picture and own up to the crop of current issues.
Think I will wait for 1st service and then hit them with warranty claims.
