Hi,
My 2016 model year purchased in July 2015 has started to behave iffy with the automatic unlock when touching the handle (drivers or passenger). This happens with both remotes and requires that I press the unlock button. Once done it will lock via the handle touch:blink: Interestingly the tailgate operates as normal and will open from locked without issue. has anyone else experienced this and may it be battery related or a warranty matter? Thanks.

Could be a battery issue.

I’d change one first see if it improves operation.

When you touch the inside of the handle or touch around the indent on the outside of the handle the car will ask the key for it’s signal and you will see the red dot flash on the fob.

Just tried it and it worked ok this time and fob flashed red. I shall keep trying and note the responses from now:calm:
Havent changed battery yet but thanks:smile new:

Almost certainly the battery. Type 2032 is what you need, £2 and a 30 second job.

Thanks for that and ordered batteries:icon thumright:
Tried it again this morning and zilch but tailgate worked ok. Opened with fob press and unlocks - - tried locking with handle touch - - nada!
will await batteries and see how they perform:calm:
Thanks guys:friendly wink:

New battery arrived this morning. Changed with old one and - - - - same issue exists:sadlike:
Tried it several times and nothing happens unless I press unlock. It even refused to lock on touch too.
So it appears to be something to do with the receiver that recognises the signal in the handle - - - I think but it looks like I need to contact Audi dealer:frown new:

So after taking to dealers and spending two and a half hours waiting I am informed the main battery appears faulty and ive to book in for further tests over three days:blush: I do get a courtesy car but its prlly pot luck as to what but doubt it will be an R8:blow:. They want to test the battery and see how it holds charge etc but I get a feeling that if it is screwed its not covered by warranty :readit: any ideas?

The main battery??? That does not make sense. You can use the fob buttons to lock and unlock, start the car I presume, therefore not a main battery issue. It seems to be an advanced key system fault

Yep my thoughts exactly but they did an audi cam thing which was barley audible showing a battery symbol in top of the speedo display and mumbling this error was thrown up therefore it needs checking first and I guess the advanced key fault could then be investigated further:blink:
Whatever, the flipping thing is working as normal - - - so far so not sure :wtf:
Watch this space I guess:whistle2:

Well I decided to follow through with the visit to the dealers thinking that although the fault no longer persists and keyless entry/locking works flawlessly it may just be worth confirming:whistle2:
On arrival theres some uncertainty about a loan car and a general feeling of cockup springs to mind but we agree on somebody checking things over following my telling them its OK now:blink: 40 minutes later I am advised they cannot find a fault and nothing showing dodgy main battery etc even though they sent an Audi cam showing the original investigation and a fault appeared:wtf:
I returned home happy that the fault appears to have cleared itself but at least if it comes back I have a record to point to:rolleyes new:
It doesn't inspire me that Audi tech and technicians don't seem to have a clue tho:confusion:
