At a risk of invoking the wrath of everyone here, in my defence I have spent most of the afternoon researching this issue, but some of the information I've figured out doesn't quite add up... so... here's hoping...

I have a 2007 A4 B7 with standard double DIN Concert stereo fitted which I want to replace with an aftermarket double DIN Sony unit. I have worked out that the cabling is not as straightforward as I'd hoped and I've figured that I need some way of connecting the RCA outputs of the Sony to the quadlock connector in order to feed line out to the rear amps... However this is where I'm a little confused.

As it stands, I have a regular quadlock to ISO adapter cable. Connecting this up does power up the unit, but doesn't output the audio correctly - as I would expect now that I know about the amp setup. However I'm confused as to what cable I actually do need, because most threads about this suggest that the half-amped setup only requires line to be fed to the rears - BUT, when I connect the stereo up with what I currently have, I don't get any sound from the front door speakers either - only the dashboard tweeters make any sound. So if I were to buy the half amped cable, this only has two RCA plugs which I would figure would only feed the rears and I'd still end up with no front doors...? But the only cables I can find with four RCA plugs claim to be for the fully amped Bose system, which I do not have.

Given the cable I've bought doesn't have any connector for the quadlock feed to the amp (the 2x6 pin green connector) I don't actually see how that could work with any unit, so I guess I'd have to ditch that and buy a whole new cable. But which one..??

Sorry if I've missed something blindingly obvious, but like I say I've been hunting through forums all afternoon and have started going round in circles, so figured it best to consult the experts rather than reinvent the wheel!

The major down side of changing from the oem head unit to an aftermarket unit is the connectivity and compatability issues, it doesn't matter what brand you buy but you will need a fitting kit to do all the appropriate wiring connections and conversions moreso with the double din units with quadlock and bose either full or part.
There is no really easy low cost way , yes you could spend hours and hours doing the wiring yourself , but it may still not workout.
Getting a specific wiring and fitting kit deals with all the issues so you don't need to.
