morning all,

after peoples opinions if possible, had been running stage 2 for a fair while and recently moved up to 2+ with the inclusion of an HPFP and also a Wagner Intercooler.
I've previously never had it on rollers so never known the exact numbers - however now at 2+ i thought i'd find out what i was running.

so - bhp = 339 and torque = 324

interested to see what others are getting please? i know that custom and APR will likely be a decent bit higher so just Revo please

cheers
paul.

On the road performance and drive-ability is what's important, however that is well below the expected figures.

You're now the 5th or 6th person I've seen on here alone whose stage 2+ figures with Revo are considerably less then what they should be (theirs were very similar to yours). This is why Revo dealers (or at least most of them) don't do Dyno runs after mapping, not that they'll admit it of course.

I used to run Revo stage 1 and 2 which served me well, even though it only made 309bhp and 296ft-lbs I found out. After doing some research and seeing the poor results some people were getting with Revo stage 2+, I decided to fork out again for mapping and went to R-Tech which is the best thing I've done with my S3 so far.

Regardless of which software is used then stage 2+ should see between 360-380bhp and 380-420ft-lbs as it mainly depends on the hardware fitted. There are Revo stage 2+ S3's out there who are in the expected range, but I've not seen any other companies software not hit this except Revo which is poor as they advertise quoted figures and charge a premium price for it. Funnily enough I just checked Revo's website and they've actually changed the figures they're quoting for stage 2+ as they definitely used to be higher and more in line with what stage 2+ should see, so that obviously says something. They ditched supporting the 8P platform nearly 5 years ago now which is why their software is lacking nowadays unfortunately.

What supporting hardware do you have fitted?

I was under the impression that Revo stopped developing their 2.0TFSI software and moved on to the newer models. The consensus seems to be that the best generic performance maps out today are APR. For me, it's RTech custom from now-on... Whether it's stage 1, 2 or infinity :)

But those Revo numbers look nothing like a typical STG2+ should be. Could it be that there is an issue with the car? Most tuners do a quick check of the car and slap a map on it instead of spending the time to do a full-on healthcheck - plugs, boost leaks, compression/leakdown test, etc...

great feedback really appreciated!
glad i'm not the only one.. tbh i intended on using Rick @ Unicorn but as i was already using Revo the step to 2+ was only £50 whereas Rick would have had to custom map and also the DSG so ended up considerably more costly (though i did go to him for the dyno - he wasnt at all suprised at the low result)
as well as the map i had the following

yeah - Revo dealer suggested could be an issue with the car - though unlikely as it was serviced at the same time and you can also see from the image i attached extras where put on. Rick also adsvised that the dyno was fine and no issues

Have you got an intake fitted as there doesn't appear to be one on that list?

Out of the OEM diverter valves than the Rev G is the best, however the diaphragm is prone to splitting and needs replacing so it may be worth checking this part. The GFB DV+ (which uses the OEM DV housing) gets a lot of good reviews including from myself, the only problem is that there was a bad batch last year which had caused it to leak, so make sure to get a brand new one if going down this route.

In the politest of respects the Revo dealer who did mine had absolutely no clue as they suggested I needed a new intake manifold when I didn't, it's been to Storm, Audi and R-Tech since for different things of which none of them found any issue with it. I know you went to a different garage but it seems like some Revo dealers like to use the car as an excuse rather than the software or competency of the mapper. Rick would've found an issue if there was one to be fair.

yes mate - Revo CAI which was done along with a Miltek when @ stage 2... suppose i'll have to contemplate going customer 2+ after-all.

Ah ok is the miltek a turbo-back, downpipe or cat-back system?

I was in a similar predicament and with money being tight as well, but honestly going custom for stage 2+ is very worth while and especially if you visit the likes of R-Tech or Unicorn as you really do get the most out of it.

Just look at the below, generic maps could only dream of getting a curve like that and this is with a stock alloy intercooler and cat-back.

yeah thats fantastic, i'll have to dig my graph out but its feeble in comparison.
yeah its a miltek turbo back non res. you'll have to forgive me as i'm not in the slightest mechanical :)
its the torque im most dissapointed in as well tbh and yours has great numbers!

Cool so you've got all of the required stage 2+ hardware as well as some extras like an uprated intercooler & cat-back, you haven't got a boost leak or timing issue otherwise Rick would've found it which suggests that it is the software which is lacking.

Haha no worries, I'm not either to be fair as I'm an office w@nker but do enjoy my cars, can only tell you in-depth stuff about an Audi S3 8P mind you!

I couldn't be happier, it upsets a lot of cars now. I was at R-Tech for the whole day and this is what £640 got me:
  • Stage 2+ custom map (pops & bangs @ 6K RPM)
  • Inlet valves media blasted
  • Injectors serviced
  • NGK BKR7EIX spark plugs (supplied & fitted)
  • Autotech HPFP internals (fitted)
  • OEM HPFP with 5mm drill out mod (fitted)
  • RS4 FPRV (fitted)
The map is £390 on its own.

Sorry should have asked differently.
is your dsg map stock or revo dsg 1 or 2?

Look for leaks or check the settings on revo map with sps. With your setup you should easily be doing 360hp even more.

I would think without a dyno run you are chasing your tail but i would go DV+ first as if its leaking boost you are never going to get good results. I wouldn't blame revo software at this stage, just the fact that most revo places don't dyno so they are guessing that everything else is spot on. chances are its the revo that's just highlighting a problem elsewhere.

hmmmm I'm running Stage 2+ and have been meaning to check the forums for a possible rolling road day to gatecrash.

I got it RR at stage 1 and it did 301 & 303 on the two runs, which was already below the 310-315 revo estimate. She was keeping up/catching a Boxster S down the straights at Snetterton recently, so she deffo has some welly, but I would be interested to get her RR to see what the figures are.

If they are underpowered like yours, depending on by how much I might look in to the above custom routes too, but I'm sure the companies are in the middle of nowhere (aka outside the M25)

The problem here is people are not comparing apples with apples.
On one hand you have a bespoke map set up for your hardware, exhaust, DV,hpfp. CAI,and you car is checked for any problems before the guy will map it.
On the other hand you have a generic map that has to cater for any hardware ( or wrong hardware) , its not set up for you, your car could have any number of issues before you start.
I had a stg 1 revo fitted at 800 miles, it transformed the car and it has now done 67k , in all that time its had 2 plug changes and both revealed perfect colour and little wear. The point is it was a map that was designed to work with known components, ie all stock so a generic map with fine adjust via a sps was going to be fine.
I have never seen a revo supplier with a RR so basically they supply a stg2+ and an SPS and its then up to you to get it set up properly, you may have a DV thats only giving half the boost it should or any number of small problems that will hardly show on a stock car but crucify the same engine trying to put out an extra 110bhp...
Revo give you a starting point to work from but its very much up to you to then get it set up for your car and your needs. I dare say if R-Tech sent you a generic map over the interweb there would be a lot of cars running 320bhp on stg2+ as well to be fair....

Well said mate.
I would add that probably some flashers try 2-3 settings at most and leave the safest on. While there are lots of combinations but it's time consuming.

fantastic comment - great analogy. appreciated!

Take that rational n logical thinking elsewhere @paddy , your sort ain't welcome round 'ere :)

Soooo I got her RR yesterday, again back at AMD, annoyingly I cant find the runs I did a few years ago to compare atmospheric figures etc...but anyway, 3 runs completed and the figures were (BHP,Torque) 355/348, 356/358, 355/353.

I'm quite happy with that, n its saved me a road trip up north for a custom map.

They are really nice figures, i would be chuffed with them, what is the full spec of your engine ?

I don't that to think about this, as I will then start to tally up the costs :$

Engine (broom brooooom)
Revo CAI (ceramic)
HPFP
Powerflow BCS Turbo back (200 cell sports cat)
SPEC Stage 2+ clutch + SMF
GFB DV+ (Rev G Body)

well I've made the decision to go back to @Rick @ Unicorn Motor Dev. and let him put his custom software on the car! booked in on the 5th May so will be back shortly after no doubt grinning with much improved numbers, and more importantly - a much better driving car!
thanks to all for the input on this thread!

I'm stage 2 only with revo and the initial run only made 290ish and the car was okay, checked settings and they were low for fuel reasons, now running mix and settings turned almost all the way up and its making what revo said it should .

also my dealer is good to me with services and general mishaps that car has every now and then, so no real reason to change maps

best thing to do is get a sps. check what the car is set on then learn to play with it
