Well after saving my pennies over the last few months, I finally saved enough to treat myself a new steering wheel. This will be the third time changing my wheel and probably the last.

Always liked the look of the Flat Bottom Steering Wheels, why this is not a standard option on the Black Editions's I will never know. Found one from the RS4 that I jut had to have and the price compared with the older version, was not that much more.

Wheel came from abroad, so had to eagerly wait just over a week for it to arrive. Finally got it installed and I must say, I am VERY happy with it. Totally transforms the interior.

Straight plug and play swap over, everything (lights, paddles, buttons, horn) work as they should. Apart from the Nav button but that does not bother me.

Subsequently, my old wheel (8K0 419 091 BC XCF) and air bag are up for grabs. PM me if interested or need any help fitting yours.

Great swap! Looks much better and younger.

Was wondering myself if I get the wheel myself with some additional button functions that would not work. Wouldn’t it look odd?
I know it isn’t much for the wheel it self but for the air bag to be compatible with the car, right?
Its something with single or double/dual stage air bag, no?
Any way I can find out what my stage air bag my A6 needs?

I currently do jot have paddle shifter as its a manual. Currently have exactly same wheel which you came out from and would also like to change it at some point. Not necessarily for the flat bottom but for sure with round air bag.

Looks great, glad you're happy because I am happy that Audi didn't fit them standard ;)

Hi mate,

Looks great! interested in doing the same to my S Line A4. What did the steering wheel set you back price wise?

Looking good, exactly what I want for mine:

What I want to know is why @JRock247 is sitting in @Russboy 's car. :tearsofjoy:
He missed the look of the old steering wheel and was making sure he was correct on spending all his hard earned £££’s on the flat bottomed one. Lol. Or maybe he is going to hep fit a new steering wheel for russ that we don’t know about yet, only Jamie has the answer. @JRock247 :)

I'm more concerned with who changed my peddles, dials & half of the dash!

Hi guys, just stumbled on this thread.

I'm thinking of doing the exact same and just want to make sure that the B8 RS4 steering wheel is just a straight swap into a B8 S4?

I have a manual and I know the RS4's have paddle shift but are the plugs still the same? Can the paddles be 'unclipped' or removed too?

Many thanks!

It was a straight swap for me into my A4 B8, no modifications, plug n play :)

I removed the paddles from my old steering wheel when I changed to the S4 paddles, so I would imagine you can remove the paddles from the RS4 wheel but you will be left with gaping holes and probably errors in VCDS.

Straight swap and all buttons will work except the nav button as highlighted below.

Not that new, my wheel came from the B8.5 RS4, think it was a 2012 car if I remember.

This is the newer wheel:

Shame my boiler at home packed up today, although not sure I could spend £600 on a steering wheel!

What do they normally fetch with airbag?

Presume I'd move from the rectangular airbag to the round? So no reprogramming needed then?

Has anyone ever made a definitive list of which will fit which car?

Cheers,

Russ

Will the round airbag work? I'm sure I read somewhere that the airbag system was different and people were not sure that they would work in an accident, despite everything connecting up

From what I read, my car has a dual stage airbag and same thing is needed. Shape should bot really matter as the connectors will be the same.
Difference you might have as to steering wheel buttons connectors and that is where vcds come handy.

Me neither, could spend £500-£700 on a steering wheel.
There are cheaper options on feeBay but not sure about airbag etc.

Also, flat bottom steering wheels are more expensive than round ones, despite round shape airbag in both and both coming out of the same chassis, A3 and S3 for flat bottom one.

I’m planning to re-thread mine with red thread to keep it fresh. Just did the gear knob gaitor and it came out well

Is that dual-stage airbag?
I'm on a look out for flat bottom steering wheel with round airbag and cannot pinpoint car models they are available from.

Sorry, cannot help with wiring but @NHN or @DJAlix might.

why this is not a standard option on the Black Editions's I will never know.

Could say the same for the sound system too. Flagship car and comes standard with poverty-spec MMi, yet models below (Technik) come with Nav MMI as standard.

Hi. I have a B8 standard stock steering wheel. No multifunction.
Do you know if the one you are selling will fit and is it a simple plug and play??

Thanks

Marc

I sold that steering wheel a long time ago mate, well over a year ago now.

Hi All

I've just brought a Audi A4 B8 Avant like the original poster but mines a 2011 Black Edition 2.0 TDI

Mine also has the "older" S-Line steering wheel but I prefer the "Newer" flat bottom wheel but I'm only looking to get a flat bottom S-Line wheel, not an RS4/5 one

Also mine does not have DSG/Multi-Tronic so no paddles for me :(

Are these a direct swap also? If anybody can shed some light this would be good

Below is an image of I'm looking to buy

I've been dying to get a flat bottom wheel for my A4 3.0 for about a year but still can't justify £600, maybe £400 at the very most with airbag.

This is my thought, but then I will sell my existing/old style one

Funny old world....If all our Audis were fitted with flat bottom steering wheels, everyone would want a round one.
Not knocking the OP by the way!

Paddles look good, what model are they from?
