just after some first hand experience on what the 3.0l tdi is like i.e any faults things to look out for etc i dont own one just yet but will be looking in the next few months. any advantages to manual V dsg, ive never owned a dsg so id rather look for one with unless theres any major drawbacks? It will be getting remapped probably within the first week so bearing in mind the dsg v manual, what am i best going for and what do i need to look out for. Oh and which would handle the extra power from the map better the manual or dsg without worrying about upgrading clutch or would it be the usual lottery. Cheers!!

Manual clutch is good for anything you want to throw at it with the standard turbo. mine runs 750Nm on a hybrid and is not far off 120K miles. Not sure what a DSG is good for . Where abouts are you in the country ?

Not a million miles from Ricks place at Stockport, Unicorn Motor Developments, He mapped my car and has done a lot of 3.0 TDI's .

Stronic can take approx 730 to 750nm with gearbox map.
But that is limit - if you want to go higher then clutch packs are required.

mot's are not a problem for me
Thats ok then, i assumed you were getting a 2-3 year old car. Only insurance to think about then, will be interesting to see how mods affect insurance premium as i am thinking about a stage 1 tune on my S5.

Try Adrian Flux it's who I have my A4 with. Or Greenlight insurance, they are very mod friendly, I have my TT with them.

I think you need to tell insurance about any modifications from standard spec. I believe this also applies to winter tyres, some mods don't affect premiums but the insurance company still wants to know about them.

Hi,
if you need any help with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

ive never mentioned any mods in my life lol. 7 modified cars, two heavily modified. Sorry to be a rebel but thats something ill never do. back to youre question though, my old man got his new skoda superb mapped then the nutter informed his insurance. Said it was to help towing a caravan, apparently it didnt change his premium at all.

Hi. I've got a 64 plate 3.0 V6 TDi with the S-Tronic gear box.
Originally quoted at 245bhp and 500Nm, IIRC.
In standard spec I found the 3.0 to be merely "brisk" and the throttle response was very, lethargic, imo.

A friend talked me into a Revo stage 1 ECU map, Revo claimed produced 309bhp and 600Nm.
The performance improved, markedly, but also, throttle response was very much improved.
My A5 needs to comply with DPF regs, so I don't think theres much more I would do.

However, I have found the S-Tronic gear box cannot keep up with how quickly the engine revs up and occasionally the car has lurched forward after initial launch as the gear box rushes to move from 1st to 2nd.
My work around is to disengage the ESC control, using the dash mounted button, which minimizes the hesitation between 1st and 2nd.
So based on my experience and as you've asked. I'd consider going manual if I were you.

My car is running a Stage I map at around 300bhp and S-Tronic. Motorsport gearbox mount smooths out the changes, but it keeps up nicely whether in Drive, Sport or Manual modes.

3.0 TDI is a great engine and so versatile that I can honestly say this is the best 'all round' car I've owned.

I'm with Adrian Flux as not worth the risk of having insurance declared void should anyone ever check, premium was actually cheaper than standard as well and all my mods are covered. Helps if someone in a massive 4 x 4 decides that snow will not slow them down and then discover that they cannot slow down when they need too.:racer::wtf::busted cop::sos::cower:
