B9 RS4 vs The Rest...and the S

Think I got the decimal point in the wrong place! It's £27 per thousand I think! So on a 40,000 loan with a GFRV of 30k you would be paying 27x30 £810 over the odds per year plus capital repayment on 10k (plus decreasing interest) divided by 3 or 4 years. Best play with on line modelling tools or talk to an expert.

This is Greek to me mate. It's my mathematical ignorance. Not my strong point.

3.9% for this monster!!

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201802093571156

I take it back btw, the RS4s on Autotrader are about £1600pm! You'd have to be batshit crazy to pay that. This RS6 Performance is £968pm, which is still silly money to pay for a car, but god damn! Infinitely better deal than these RS4s. Are people actually this silly? Do you know anybody that throws £1600pm down the drain on a car?

Utter madness...

Pleased to report I’m paying significantly less than that.. and less than the RS6 Performance (but it took a fair bit of time and effort and lubing of the deal!)

It was this review and my car suddenly feeling and sounding pretty damn good that made me embrace this new RS4. The front end on the thumbnail

Well I’d already agreed to have an S5Sportback for 9 months to fill the gap between old S3 lease and the RS4 coming out. I then threw in a Q2 for the Mrs and pitched them using esure car insurance as an example.. in that when you have two cars with them they knock up to 10% off..

The other thing to consider here with most of those cars on the trader is that in effect they aren’t brand new cars, so don’t get the same Audi/dealer contribution as I managed to swing on mine.. I’d suggest you’re better off going brand new from Audi and you’ll be able to secure a better deal

I guess for me this is one of the key reasons where it wins over the B8... with the V6 it really can have two personalities

Yeah I'm onboard with that. I have a good relationship already. Probably couldn't convince my lady to get an Audi to soften it up though haha. But I'd never get one of those autotrader deals. Not audi Finance at the moment. 6% is nuts.

What deposit did you have if you don't mind me asking?

2k. Think my APR is actually 6% but not sure how they shaped it to get it to the budget I set, but guessing they knocked a nice chunk off the price to achieve it. Either way, it didn’t matter to me as got it on budget

Fancy sending your deal via pm? The GFV is very important. That sets the tone. The base for a good monthly. They're vastly undershooting them at the moment.

Finally read that Autocar review of RS4/6 vs C63/E63.

Pfffft. Standard...as per usual. I don't really pay attention to their drivel in all honesty. They simply don't test cars how real people do. Even at the end, they say they'd take the Audi if it was long term. I've no doubt the AMGs sound much better and the E63 is a new chassis with more cutting edge performance. The new RS6 is just around the corner.

It's a tough one. I'd like to test drive the 4 back to back myself. But 80% of the year here in the UK, that RS4 would leave the C63 unless it had a proper, fearless driver in it. Reason I started this thread was to compare a cars smile per mile ability over being better on paper so I absolutely concede I'd love that AMG V8. But I do think Autocar is terribly bias.

What did surprise me was the economy!! C63 is better on paper?

Disclaimer - far from the best driver in the world.
When I tested the S4 sedan, also tested the RS6 that Scott had for the week. Also tested a Merc-AMG C43 sedan & C63 wagon, as we wanted a wagon.
We both were very disappointed with the quality & finish of the Mercs, and with the C43, after 30 odd kms in the city, on the freeway and a spirited drive up/down a 2k tight twisty hill I have walked up many times, found it a tiring drive. I had to concentrate so hard all of the time. I realize some of it was adrenalin driving a C63. The RS6, with 1000% adrenalin, found s-o-o much easier to drive, everywhere.

Off topic - read at least one motoring review on the Merc-AMG C43 where it was stated it was twin turbo. Can't happen, as they physically will not fit under the bonnet. The E63, bigger size, has twin turbo, to move the extra weight. First thing I asked the AMG rep when testing the C43.

Meanwhile, back on the thread - at least the S4 will accept the RS4 twin turbo kit. Add a DTUK, what a weapon!!! One way to beat those heavy repayments.

After having a new shape c250d for the past 2 and a bit years and 50k miles, I can confirm the Mercedes quality and finish is not up to Audi levels. I’m sure the 4wd c43 is fine to drive but the c63 must be a death trap, in the wet my 200bhp diesel tries often to have my killed... thank goodness for electronics :racer:

That was a good read mate. Cheers How did you find the size/weight of the RS6 when properly pushing it on country roads? That was my point about Autocar. With the RWD, you have to be so much more alert. Not necessarily a bad thing. You're just focussing on not ending up in a ditch in bad weather.

I think merc cabin has come a long way in this segment. Maybe a bit blingy but I'd say with the Carbon centre console, it's pretty nice.

Lol, if 200bhp is “fun” what happens when 500bhp is put through :wtf:

It must just sit spinning its tyres, That’s gonna get expensive.. I’m doing 12k a set on mine which is already stupid..

It can’t be a realistic daily driver, surely.

Flipping eck. 12k? Haha. 20" fat tyres are gonna become the bain of your existence with a C63 haha.

Not sure what is going on there. ABT normally fit Akro but that's not available yet so who knows what they have gone with

If it's just back boxes then it won't be making much difference I can't imagine. The standard back boxes on our cars are really small! It's getting rid of the resonators and the middle box that seem to make the biggest difference and until someone does a cat back system it won't sound much better I don't think.

Didn't realise they used Akro. Cool. Might be doing this to bump sales/interest in the Audi Sport/RS offerings.

And twin branch. Having it merge on a 120. split crank V6 is going to act like noise cancelling headphones

Ta! The RS6 felt really good on the twisty stretch. Size not a problem & would feel more comfortable if I had one for a long term.
The Merc, yeah, that was a demo wagon in Oct'16, so they would want to improve. Not sure about wagons, but I know all AMG sedans are now built in South Africa. The V8's are still hand built in Germany and shipped with the other goodies to SA.
Had 4 x Subie wagons & now the S4, probably used to the awd. But after the last Subie went was only searching for an awd turbo wagon.

So, reckon the awe exhaust would work on RS4? I've heard the S4 offerings from AWE. Unless the camera just ain't picking the sound up that well, it doesn't sound much different or enhanced.

I realise it might come across that I'm looking for this V6 to start sounding like a V8 haha. I'm not, honest. And some people do like the stock sound. It's growing on me. Just as Deano says though, the pass through seems to be strangled. Are there any good clips of a V6 dual branch exhaust anybody has heard/seen?

They'd be the 'go to' cars for a good example yeah. I like the cheap custom option you mentioned last week or whenever it was. Gonna give the awe clips another chance on my sound bar at home tonight.

Alpha is first. Back box delete on the Awe Track Edition S4 exhaust (last image). Not sure if it's non-sport diff related. Think they sorted that?

I was trying to upload it to Photobucket but no such luck. It's just uploading to YouTube now so I'll post the link when it's done.

Just a short blast with a Session stuck on the bumper so the audio is alright, but you can never really capture it all that well on a camera. Also, excuse it being a bit sideways, the camera didn't automatically switch to upside down mode and I've not done any editing on it at all. Haha.
