Might as well go for the proper oil IMO. Depends on if you are doing longlife (507.00) or fixed service intervals (505.01) (I'd recommend fixed at this age / mileage though).

Anyway, Genuine oil isn't that expensive really.

Both links are sold by REAL VAG dealers, so it's highly unlikely to be the wrong stuff. I have used the 505.01 stuff for the last few years in my 2.0 PD Alhambra without incident. And is about as cheap as you can buy decent oil. And that's what I would recommend for you.

Do yourself a favour, and buy a GENUINE oil filter too. It'll be a couple quid more expensive than the cheapest one you can buy, but hey, whats a couple quid to make sure your engine is running the best it can? Don't be tempted to "cheap out" and save what? A fiver between the oil and the filter? Do it right.

I only bought proper spec Shell oil for my A4 recently because it was 10L for £30 from ECP in some deal, otherwise I would have just bought Genuine oil.

Just nip into Audi and buy a filter.

Buy Mann , cheaper and VAG OEM.
