My A3, S tronic gearbox makes some clunky noises when mostly downshifting to second and pulls quite sharp when it’s dropped down almost like I’m tapping thenbrakes. Does it sound like I need a gearbox service or could it be something else?

The DSG gearbox typically makes a clunky sound (almost feels like it comes from the bottom of the car) on mine and it appears that this is a standard behaviour.
I don’t however get the as if I pressed the brakes behaviour though.

Do you know when you changed the DSG oil last time? Even though mine was fine, I still changed it as it’s supposed to be changed on a schedule (forgot, every 20k?).

I’ve had it just over a year, done about 10k and haven’t had it done but I don’t think the owner before me looked after it very well so god knows when it last had a change

If you can’t see that it’s been done from paperwork get changed, I’ve read that often sorts out and issues, mines smooth as silk, changed at 40k and just about to do it again at 75kish

Garage should charge around 200 quid or buy oil kit for around a 100 quid but it needs vcds and a bit of know how not muck it up and ruin the box, depends on your skill level

Changed mine at Audi. Fixed price at £225. Strangely the service book had ATF multitronic oil change before (at 40k, mine at 75k now) which is charged at £180. Same car can’t have both, can it haha?

Mine does that too, I think it is just the nature of the gearbox. Sometimes a gearbox service doesn't seem to make a difference. I would say get the gearbox adaptations performed and see how it feels after that.

Thanks mate, what’s that exactly and how much does it cost?

Heard somewhere else it could be the DMF?

What’s your A3 model? Not every A3 has a DMF.

It's sort of like a gearbox reset, but more to do with re-calibrating the clutch pressures and things like that. This can be done in about 30-60 minutes and you need someone who has access to the Audi software network (ODIS). @DJAlix can do this for you (he offers a mobile service).
