I have a B7 Avant s-line I'm looking to get a bit lower, i had totally made my mind up on Eibach -30mm pro springs, after looking into things a bit more it seems these will only lower the car by -5mm as the s-line suspension is already lower!! As I'm getting older, i want to keep the comfort of the standard ride and don't want to lose the practicality, just looking to lower a little from standard height, was is the best spring package for my needs? Pics of your cars and opinions welcomed, thanks in advance

The main problem with the s-line setup is that the ride is very firm due to the spring rate, and the dampers are not that good either, so hence the firm almost harsh ride quality.
changing the springs does help a bit but if they are lower then the ride suffers even more as the dampers are pretty maxed out to start with due to shorter springs not being matched to the dampers.
I have tried several options and in the end went with new dampers/ springs , I wanted to keep the sporty nature of the car and handling , also reduce the ride height a bit more, but with some level of comfort .
the best option I found for everyday use and user friendly driving etc were the Bilsteins , not the oem replacements but the B8's with H&R 45mm drop springs, works spot on and a joy to drive, the way audi should have made it to start with really but didn't, not a cheap option but not expensive either.

oh yes , i'm 54 so not that young either now and they work for me just fine.

Suspension, brakes and tyres are next on my list after turbo.

I also want to sort the ride height out but would like to keep some comfort.

@Just Rob. How much did you drop your car mate? Do you have problems with speed bumps? There are quite a lot where I live as I’m near a primary school. Don’t want to cause myself too many issues!

45mm around total drop, no real issues with speed bumps unless they are the really irritating small square ones that stick in the centre of the lane, and then it has to be a tallish one and I just adjust go over one side or the under tray will just skim it, not an issue really.
I personally woundnt go any lower unless you have perfect roads , no speed bumps etc.

Fitted eibach springs to my s line avant last summer, dropped it about 25mm as the s line is already 10mm lower than standard.

My s-lines lowered on eibach sportline 40mm front and 50mm back with 18” alloys.
No problem fully loaded boot and 3kids in the back

The only picture I have on my phone can get some better ones if needed.

I’ve only had my Eibach pro street S coilovers on since December. Completely transformed the car, although I’ve got to loose my splitter as I have quite a step driveway. I definitely think it’s more comfortable as the standard shocks were over 10 years old and one of my springs was snapped! I don’t think my pregnant wife has noticed the difference though and my excuses was ‘it will be more comfortable for you!’

45mm drop all round.

Where’s your center caps tho?

Thanks great advise, so when you say B8, you just literally mean shocks from the later model A4?

Was that the pro kit -30/30mm? Do you have a picture

Sorry I should have been clearer chap, when I said B8's, I was referring to aftermarket dampers made by Bilstein, not audi B8 dampers.
They do a few options for B7's depending on what variant one has, I opted for their B8 kit for my Quattro avant and used H&R 45 mm spring to go with them.

This is the kit I opted for, direct from Germany via ebay seller, faultless service and excellent price.

you'll need to sort some springs out aswell chap depending on what ride height you prefer, H&R 45 went spot on with the B8's as the dampers work better with shorter springs to start with.

How do you know if you have S-line or sport suspension fitted? After reading all the responses saying s-line suspension is harsh, i think mine is very smooth and comfortable, although i have just come from a Cupra R

S-line is the a4 sport suspension version, you have either SE or S-line from the factory , the only 100% way is to check the dampers and springs in the flesh and see what the part numbers are, a visual check will only indicate ride height , but you may have aftermarket kit fitted, hence why you need to have a look at what is alllready fitted.

your avant is an S-line , if it is unchanged from new then they will be s-line kit, if they had been replaced with oem direct replacements fitted they will still be s-line spec.

Sline dampers etc were red from new also

I'll have a look at the weekend, i was only curious as had read so many times that s-line was a harsh ride, and i don't think mine is harsh at all, but as i said, it may be because my last car of 6 years was quite a stiff/bumpy ride, thanks again for input guys, I'm slowly turning into an Audi geek so all info is appreciated

Side profile of my Avant Quattro with -45mm H&Rs. Front could be lower but looking to rectify this when I have some spare cash as it doesn't quite sit to my liking. The ride is great however.

is that on s-line dampers chap, if so mine was the same on the front , as soon as I went to bilstein B8's allround with the 45 H&R springs the front came down lower so it sits nice and level now.

Same as Rob, is it on standard dampers?

I have picked up some B5 perches as i keep reading this drops the front a little

my old bus sits just right , infact maybe even a tad lower than when i first put the new dampers on now the front springs etc have settled.

Yep guys just on sline dampers at the moment. I'm thinking for now just putting B5 perches on, or like Rob getting some Bilstein dampers if I can fund that at some point. I've still got Robs bigger brakes I bought that I need to get fitted sometime too. Maybe now the weather is warming up i'll get it done soon enough. :D

Your car does sit great now Rob compared to the shot of when you bought it. Looks awesome!

After reading this thread I think I’m gonna go with the H&R 45mm springs. They give the car a good stance and I think I’d still be able to get off my drive with no problems

They're a good choice but I'd recommend the b5 perches fitted at the same time if you want it level. Might as well get it done while springs are getting done. I know the quattros need it from my experience

just be aware chaps, the perches only fit over the oem s-line etc damper tubes and oem tube diameter sizes, bilsteins are a larger OD tube so wont fit, but then on the B8's you wont need them.

The B8 dampers sit at exactly the same height as the OEM. You are right that the B5 cups do not fit though.

You either need to cut a new circlip groove in the B8 damper, or machine the B8 Spring cup, or get the ECS tuning B8 adjutsable spring seat conversion kit if you want to tweak the ride height down with B8's.
