Tools...

Ones that are invaluable for this job.... wiha 300mm bit driver magnetic which helps alot available from screwfix i believe

T30 obviously for most of the bolts

10mm socket along with the generic half inch drive triple square set these slot into the 10mm socket making it a thin package to slip up and get the banjo bolt on the hpfp

Flare nut spanners were quite handy bergen set 12 quid delivered off ebay

I also had a giant suction tool which was also invaluable for getting the bulk out although i wish i had one of the vac tools available for oil changes around 38 delivered and thinner hoses

Check the cam follower while your at it !!!

You will need an magnetic pick up tool !!!

Thin grip pliers which went around the injector inlets to act as a puller i got this out of my ZX7R toolkit you may be able to substitute these woth pliers and use the cutting jaws to grasp and evenly pull

I used a cheap generic brush kit which had a variety of brushes nylon which i used to acrub the injector bores, and cotton buds to clean with acetone, i went through 3 cans of wynns intake and throttle body cleaner pick your poison accordingly i used the brass to clean the ports and valves as its relatively soft.... and used a drill to agitate.

I turned the engine with the starter giving it a quick buzz

Watch the big pcv hose mine was brittle and snapped in 2 places... turns out it just needed to be shifted a bit not removed completely

I didnt have to remove any lines apart from fuel no coolant or oil,

I used a pack of lint free rags to soak up and clean the faces etc

I cleaned all the intake runner flaps and all that jazz in the intake degreased and washed the whole thing whilst off the car,

The stasis pdf was very helpful for keeping up with i replaced my injectors and prv whilst at it, it is a pain to manoeuvre out but got there

I used a length of wood and rag over to knock the injectors in i mamaged to salvage the plastic clips by being very careful

Lube the injector o rings as per the manual

Magnetic 10mm would be handy the 300mm bit holder is by far my go to tool for every job on my car it gets into the headlight bolts

Im very glad i did this job after months of putting it off ! Just be prepared if you have any questions id be happy to help and i hope this collection of little notes helps someone out

I know its seat of the pants dyno but mine were quite caked..... definitely smoother, more midrange may be because of the S3 injectors and being unclogged injectors for that matter mine didnt look good but i havent had any tested yet and picks up easier after you put your foot down.... just feels altogether more purposeful if you lile id definitely recommend it and now im not so scared to do it i bought a lot of crap i didnt need but it was cheap things more tools to get in but only used a few a flar pick, brushes and cloths really

I have questions Sir, I'm busy at the moment but will be back shortly to find out more on your excellent write up.

Didnt get any after pics unfortunately as i was running low on gloves and powered through with my last pair on

Well that is a great write up chap, i'm also about to embark on the very same task over the xmas hols along with a few other jobs.
It seemed logical that whilst I was messing around in the area of the head etc I should really do a few jobs at the same time and save wasting parts and time further down the line.

I have the following areas lined up to be done , my valve cover sealing gasket has been leaking for a while now on the exhaust side so it needed replacing asap, so the covers coming off to do that, while its off doing the cam chain& tensioner etc, then deal with the decoke.
OEM pcv is going in the bin and i'm changing to a dual catch tank setup , that will all go back on to replace the oem problem areas.

Also doing a DV relocate , that's another setup that will go back on at the same time after the decoke is done.
Removing the IC's and pipework to give it all a darn good cleanout etc, hopefully by the end of all this I may see some reduction in oil retention in the system and less carbon buildup in the head.

how long to the job take chap and what sort of cost was involved.
My only real issue now is that the front bumper will have to come off to remove all the IC kit , I have no probs removing it but its such a pain in bum to remove /refit .
shame you didn't have any pics of the job, good work all the same.

Time wise first time is always a pain in the *** id expect yours to be out of action for 3/4 days depending on lighting etc, cleaners brushes etc minimal costs looking at 50 starting with nothing as a guess for the decoke but obviously things you cant account for are injector seals ripping or being damaged might aswell have thise cleaned and refit while your in there or replaced for a set of s3 ones similar spray pattern capable of same and increased flow on a mildly tuned car, i replaced the press relief valve whilst in there another pain in the *** but wirthwhile fr and r tuning 56 delivered i believe i got my injedctors at a steal 49 delivered and 40 for seal kits delivered cleaned them myself with acetone and intake cleaner oh and anither tip is grab one tin of that turbo cleaner the foaming up one it will get into the nooks and crannies

Id definitely go for a vac too while your in the head you could clean any potential sludge off by hand .... i had a lot of sludge in the lower protion of the breather pipe which goes onto the top of the oil filter housing which i cleaned the best i could also i clean all the interior of the hoses as a final measure

Normal second hand bearing pullers and a home made bridge to lever off will be cheaper than buying an injector puller also at a push, push off some thick bolts maybe tacked together to get over the top of the injector mine werent insane to get off but did require a very firm even tug supported by my grips

I am considering just removing the head now and do it off the car to be honest, based on the milage/age my timing belt and waterpump could do with a change aswell, I thought about it and as I have to remove the bumper to take out the IC's and pipework I may aswell do the timing belt/water pump aswell.
It means a bit of extra cost but makes sense to do all the jobs together now.
ECP are doing some decent discount at the moment so the timing belt/pump are almost half price, worth thinking about.

Certainly does it will save you the cost of a massage at least you will know its done and done right ! Just read lads of threads theyre invaluable theres a haynes available for our model too

Is the Haynes manual engine code specific or just general engine codes within the 2.0tfsi range.
