What have you done to your A4 b6 today?

Spend most of the day at work refitting the tailgate, refitting wiring loom and motors.
One odd thing I came across was the small antenna wire.

There are different options when ordering tailgate window. One is with or without antenna.

The guy who replaced the window ordered a new one from the license plate.
Thing is, they do not fit together as the loom has an antenna cable, and the window has a small single wire.
The old window was soldered, the inner cable to the window, while the outer net was isolated. Did the same and radio reception is the same.
Could have an performance influence, I don’t know but I still get reception..

Anyway it’s nice to have a smooth freshly painted tailgate back on...

Fitted new injector seats, £14 odds from the dealer. Old ones broke half way out so I removed the inlet and vacuumed the debris out, they were really brittle, long overdue changing.

Spend some time on right front side, an annoying sound appears sometimes.
Anyone know the importance of the spring and springseat placement in the strut?
According to Haynes things need to line up. But dampers aren’t the same, sure it has the holes in it, but can’t figure it out...
Anyone?

I took note of their position on disassembly and put them back in the same position.

Fitted new coolant temp sensor, feels noticeably better to drive already. The list is of parts I've replaced this year is growing.
Diverter valve
PCV valve
Crankcase breather pipe x 2
Turbo inlet pipe
Injector O rings
Injector seats
Pressure control valve
Two coil packs
Clutch
Front discs and pads
Rear pads
Full set of Eibach springs

The amount of inlet and pcv components is just a joke but then again it's an old car, there's nothing like fixing these niggling little problems that spoil the way the car drives.
Still to change the fuel filter which hasn't arrived yet! Who knows when or if it has ever been changed, the car had a new fuel pump fitted in it's past so you'd like to think it would have had a filter fitted then.

Been troubleshooting the RVC as it stopped working a few days ago due to battery was drained. Left the key in ACC for lots of hours..

After this, it wouldn’t engage RVC when reversing.. Pretty annoying as I’m pretty used to it..

Got it working today when I remembered that the IMA (Kufatec) has a menu in the DIS.
So I activated RVC and it worked again

Hooray

Bought a freshly painted OEM RS4 wheelset and got them fitted with my wintertires.
They are painted Porsche Polar Silver colour...

Meant to throw this up a few weeks back, installed some aftermarket headlight unit with LED side lights and less reflective chrome backing. Wasn't sure if they were for me at first so when I saw a 'new other' set on the bay for £80, I took a punt. The seller had a B6 cab with different contours or so he said. I like them a lot. Apologies for the jizz stains on pics 3 and 4, just can't control myself sometimes.

Nice! Usually think they look a bit tacky on b6's but they look really good on yours.

Im having some problems with the G85(clock spring) sensor.
After a loose wire from the battery and some electrical faults while driving, my car giving a MIL every morning(or when sitting for a while). It only happens on right turns and only over some degrees of turning(sharp turns)
It chimes three times while flashing the brake alert.

In the beginning I could read the fault 01826 in ABS.
But can’t read it now, at least not after driving it for a while..

Some I’m thinking:
1. something is faulty
2. It’s only when car has been off for a while
3. It disappears after some time driving(it relearns the calibration)

So, something looses this calibration.

It could be the G85, the J527 module or the ABS block it self...

Any ideas???

Try disconnecting the abs, clean both parts of connector and connection with some electrical spray cleaner then reconnect. See if it sets any new codes.

Took headlights out, sprayed them with soap water to show leaks as they began to moist up again. Back lid was cracked. Took care of it.

And, have had an annoying sound coming from right front tire.
Lifted the car up, and found the bolt for the sway at had come loose...
Tightened it, now it’s tight AF.
Incredible how much driving pleasure is lost when your car has an annoying sound...
Now it’s back

Thanks

Just from ebay.

Great stuff thank you! Nearly bought these ones the other day but wondered if they would be compatible/ a good fit.

How are they at night not overly bright lighting up the floor?

Why not the oem lights?

The ones I took off before were already LED.
just needed a fresher look.

Tried to get to the G85 clock spring. It’s possible without removing the covers.
But what suffix letter will give me same specs on the clock spring

Found that mine is 4E0953541B
But not many second hand units come up when searching ebay..
A models are abundant

Took the whole day - the key is to take your time and use good quality products. The finish is determined by the prep work, it can be a little tedious but you get out what you put in.

1 - Clean and degrease the wheel thoroughly - remove any old wheel weights & sticky pads.etc
2 - Use Araldite liquid metal to fill any kerbing to the outside of the rim (I use my finger for this to get a smoother finish)
3 - Wait a few hours for the liquid metal to cure, then sand to the shape / curve of the wheel using 600-grit.
4 - Key the rest of the wheel using 600-grit and then 1200-grit on the outside surfaces (this will take the time - make sure you get every part of the wheel otherwise you have the risk of the new paint flaking)
5 - Clean the wheel - if the finish is good, you can paint onto the keyed surface (no need to prime if the wheel is in decent condition)
6 - Mask the wheel using thin tape for the inside of the tyre that sits close to the rim, then wider tape to protect the sidewalls.
7 - Spray the wheel - 3x light dustings - allow the paint to cure for 30/45 mins
8 - Lacquer the wheel - 3x medium coats to give a glossy smooth finish.

Allow the wheel to cure for at least 2 hours before fitting to the car - try not to drive the car for 24hrs otherwise you run the risk of brake dust bonding to the fresh lacquer.

I get my paint from my local autopaints and use ProXL lacquer (nothing comes close to it in rattle can form) - I have done about 20 sets now.

Alternatively - you can pay me £40 per wheel!

i have just bought the same car as you my friend who did your remap/decat?????££££

thanks in advance

2004 a4 2.5tdi avant quattro sport black /with black leather standard at mo but not for long any advise on tuning/mods???

Could do with updating my brakes at some point there shockingly bad. Would love to fit some B5 RS brakes but there well expensive and rare as rocking horse crap.

Changed the fuel filter, I don’t know when it was last changed and I’ve had the car two years now, mpg was starting to suffer. Had a run today and it returned 36 mpg which is a good improvement on what it was.

There was no major debris when I emptied the filter and it didn’t look too bad but clearly it needed changed.
No problem with the dreaded clips but the retaining torx screw was rusted so bad I had to drill the head off it.

I fitted S4 brakes all around..
From 288/255 to 345/300
Big difference in both performance and looks

Installed new license plate frame, door courtesy projector LEDs.
audi_door_projectorled-jpg.146403

And later a new armrest cover...seeing so many aftermarket replacements makes me think the OEM Audi ones must be defective, but at almost $180 USD for Audi one I tried this one for about $13 USD from www.amazon.com/ it fit perfectly and the leatherette grain matched the leather interior to a tee with METAL guide pins. Note the latch width is 6.2 cm. Bought this one because it had the dimensions annotated...!

Bought one.

So I guess I better get some decent pics up. Between last night and today, I managed to clean it. Not a quick process.

Pre-rinse
Snowfoam - Gyeon Q2M
2 bucket wash with Simoniz car shampoo and wax
Autosmart Tardis
Snowfoam again
Meguires claybar with quick detailed as lube
Machine polish with Mezerna PF2500
Mezerna power lock sealant
Windows done with Gteqniq G6 then G5
Leather cleaned with autoglym leather cleaner, then treated with Raceglaze leather balm
Interior carpets hovered then febreeze.

Still to polish & seal wheels, and properly clean interior plastics.

Nice mod, I did power fold a while ago, bit disappointed that they don’t auto fold off ignition or key.
