A4 B6/B7 LED dipped beam conversion - installation and review (H7)

Hi Jordan,

You can put LED's in your 2002 Avant yes. You just need to get a set of LED's where the heat dissipation ribbon is not so big at the back. (see my orginal pics of the ones I got). Then you would NEED to get error cancellors. This way, it will work properly with your car without a 'bulb out' showing on your DIS.

I have a 2002 AVANT I want to change the low beams to LED, is the kit you specified a plug and play or do you have to wire it in you self??
I installed LED plug and play for my 2010 Serria but they were not projector lenses like the Audi low beam, Please Comment

Jordan

Basically you will need to buy both the LED conversion kit and then Error Cancellors. You will need to take the old bulbs out, and simply put the new LED bulbs into the housing and connect the black and Red wires like for like into the slots of the headlight housing (connector sockets)

Then, you will need to do the same for error cancellors. Its easy to do when you have it all in front of you.

I haven't done any LED retrofit..
Only xenon..

Led lights are great, when the car is built with it.
Just look at the new MB or Audi..
But putting a led bulb into a projector which is made for halogen or xenon isn't going to be great..

Perhaps I'll reconsider now that I've fitted led to the high beam, and loving it compared to halogens

I bought auxbeam h7 led (f16 series, I dont know how are the new series) last summer and honestly I'm not satisfied, light is weaker than HID and halogen, it just looks nice.

Sorry to hear that Razorinc.

I can only say 2 things to help you;

First - Always go for High output lumens, as this will generally determine brightness.

Second - If the above is known to be lying (as in, the manufacturer is not telling the truth with light output figures) then buy from Amazon but not before you read reviews and view photos on bulbs actually in car!

Yes, unfortunately..even the photo doesnt look the greatest.

Anyways, not to worry. Get yourself a decent one and you will love it.

Looks good Wahlstrom.

I can tell they would be pretty bright. Looks like a decent 'cree' type LED chip too.

I think they would fit quite snugly in the projector housing. Probably a tight fit at the rear where the heat dissipation back is.

Well.. I've noticed that the high beam affect the radio, makes one or two channels/radio stations loose reception.. not totally, but makes the reception poor..
Read somewhere that a ground wire from the headlights would help..

Interesting Wahlstrom.

I elected to keep the high beams stock for now but obviously an undesired result.

My Radio is knackered anyway (Common B6 cabby issue) so dont listen to the radio much.

Bought some D1S leds today.. can't wait to get them fitted..
If they are half as powerful as the H7's then they should be fine

Ooh I like the sound of that.

Let us know how it goes. Hope its a perfect fit.

Bad.. Im sticking with xenon.. thinking of swapping my Xtreme vision gen 1 with some White Vision gen 2

Well I thought I'd have a go at restoring my headlight lenses, seeing as they ain't to my liking.
Popped the headlight out, was a bit stiff but nothing a good tug ( I know it sounds so wrong ) got it to budge, can you guess what I was greeted with ??

Oh dear god, how hot do these get ?? I thought they might run a bit warm, but not at incendiary level.

Still I had a go at restoring the headlights & came up with a fix for mounting these little fire starters.....

Using motherboard stand offs from my pc spares box & the correct screws, you get this ....

It is away from the plastic housing & should get plenty of moving air around it to disperse the heat.

If you have these fitted, please make sure they are in a well ventilated area.

Beware the resistor's run very hot! Only fitted them yesterday, they have nearly burned through the wires. Not safe in my opinion. Be careful they are dangerous.

Have taken mine out and will just have to put up with the bulb failure light on the dash panel. Bulbs have a good output thought just don't fancy the risk of the car catching fire!

Told you so!

***, sorry to hear that!

Yes they do run hot but didnt know that hot! WTF?

I need to check mine and may seal up with Kapton Tape.

Just read your whole thread Dan, car is looking sweet :racer:

With regards to the dis bulb error issue, would it be possible to reprogram which ever magic box controls it to look for a lower resistance and hence remove the resistor pack? Obviously an added benefit is they will use even less power

Thanks Andy!

Ooh, thats a good question. I think it is possilbe yes (sounds do-able) but honestly, imsure it would be a right old pain in the a*se.

The error adatpers are super easy to instal in line so I would suggest simply plugginh them in.

no luck fixing my LED H7 , back to old bulbs for me , europarts doing nightbreakers at the moment for 17 quid so they will have to do :racer:

Night Brakers are fine, people just expect too much with bulbs. Fitting new bulbs is generally an improvement but there is really little to no difference when choosing between the top brands like Philips and Osram, the big improvements come with HID and Xenon kits but I've never gone that route just because of the extra complexity.

Sorry to hear that Jimmy.

Ive had mine in a lot longer and no issues at all. Hope you get it fixed.

I certainly dont want to be recommending lights that are sh*t.

Yes true DJ.

To be honest, I still love the look of HID but simply cant be dealing with the amount of blown sets ive had over the years. I do get the notion, you get what you pay for but still.

Hence, why I dont blame you at all.

Ok, update for you guys.

Ive bought a stupidly bright set of LED's.

Link below;

Amazon product

Ive seen and witnessed the less powerful version on B6's and they are fantastic. So, me being me, I went for the even brighter version.

Will let everyone knw in due course how these are.

Im all for trying new things so I couldnt help myself. However this time, I will be 'wrapping ' the resistors in 'Kapton tape'. Supposedly a high temperature tape to stop the ****** things from getting VERY hot.

How did you get on with these bulbs?

I have to keep checking my switch to see it's in the on position my lights are so bad!

Hi Everyone,

Any advice hugely appreciated - 2009 A5 halogen bulb holder seems to baffle all companies and Audi directly don't sell it. I haven't fit my HIDs for 2 reasons

1 - The bulb holder will need to be butchered to fit and i'm not confident being as I can't replace it (or so i've been told and found so far)
2 - Both wires are black - which is fine I can touch both and find which is 12v with a multimeter.

My question is, do these LED light conversions fit any easier?, or do they require adaptors/modifying the holder? some pics of my light below for reference:
