Hi Guys,

My name is Yusuf and i have been enjoying my Audi S4 for last few months.

I have been reading alot of the threads and builds and will hopefully be asking for advise to mod my S4. loving the builds by @xpoweruk , @Chop. and @Carlos85 (so far the only ones i have read).

Hey Yusuf. Congrats on the new ride and I am sure not only that you are liking the S4 but also the forum.

You are already on the right track buddy and reading the right threads.

Is yours bone stock? What mods do you have in the pipeline? A lot of helpful people out there willing to help you empty your bank account

Thanks @Tashfeen, yeah its stock currently. Iv just received the LED lighting kit from trups so will be posting of those pics soon.

things to do:

transmission mount
gearbox oil change (heard no one does that as its suppose to be lifetime)
stage 1 map
front grill
uprated suspension.

All those and maybe more in good time and once i can afford it :tearsofjoy:.

Thanks @Carlos85 your motor is awesome. loving the Miltek system.

So, it seems like yours is an MT, right? Why do you need to change the transmission, are there any issues you are noticing.

Nice list of mods planned but why not Stage 2 as it completely transforms the car.

Welcome along & thanks for the mention :)
I had my box oil changed when I got the clutch done a couple of years ago as a precautionary measure too

baby steps lol, yes its a MT @Tashfeen . as @xpoweruk said precautionary :).

i need to change the clutch as i think its slipping and the flywheel too. Any recommendations guys that would be better than OEM and not as expensive?

its a pleasure @xpoweruk.

I can vouch for the sachs xtend clutch. Been running it for nearly a year now with stage 1 power. I also just have a new luk DMF. Keep an eye on the discount codes for gsf car parts, you can save a fortune on the flywheel.

@Ginge247 does it feel like oem?

Iv been quoted for £685 for OEM clutch +slave and flywheel (all LUK) by Mike (listers parts guy) iv asked him to let me know what the flywheel be by itself and work out with the sachs xtend.

@xpoweruk that SPEC 3 looks mental but iv been told the DMF will limit the power and you have to go with SMF setup, whats your thoughts?

what should i budget for labour? any other items that need changing at the same time i.e. bolts, bearings?

Below is what SPEC told me about the 3+

Andrew,

The st3 is no longer available…the st3+ is a much better choice and became the most popular due to it nice drivability, high capacity and the fact it is the longest wearing unit in the marketplace for that car. The st3+ is nice to the flywheel surface (the st3 was not) and all are direct bolt-in with the OE flywheel. The st3+ is rated to 620 ft lbs.

I kind of get SMF for a Diesel engine but not so sure for an S4 tbh. I am not sure you’ll get any noticeable benefits from an SMF unless you are tracking extensively where gear and speed changes are frequent then in a normal DD

The big benefit of a DMF is that the engine feels silky smooth. All the power fluctuations are smoothed out or dampened down lessening the wear and tear on the transmission and clutch.

Yes m8 feels just the same as the oem. All the aluminium gearbox box bolts need replacing if they have been out before. I would replace the clutch fork, crank shaft oil seal, pilot bearing, clutch release arm and the slave cylinder if it's the original. Then you have stuff like front pipe exhaust gaskets, prop shaft gaskets, box oil etc.

So should i go with uprated parts or OEM will do for clutch fork, crank shaft oil seal, pilot bearing, clutch release arm and the slave cylinder if it's the original. Then you have stuff like front pipe exhaust gaskets, prop shaft gaskets, box oil?

@yusuf7869 did you try TPS? Try getting us the ‘commoners’ as well as trade price from them. You might be able to get it slightly cheaper. Or perhaps call Awesome GTI (Manchester) and get a quote from them too. Al Brown is the guy you need to talk to at Awesome. No harm in shopping around before buying anything. I’d try Awesome for all the other parts as well just for a comparison sake.

Al at awesome gti is as good as gold. He's sorted a lot of special order parts for me, got a few ECS tuning goodies over from the states and saved me a lot of money getting ECS to ship it directly to me.

Thanks @Tashfeen no harm in trying.

Was also looking at this whether its worth doing at the same time:

https://www.uspmotorsports.com/Driv...Stainless-steel-clutch-line-Audi-VW-6spd.html

let me know your thoughts?

Was looking at that previously myself. But, have been unable to find in right hand drive as of yet. Was considering to see if I could get some made up.

Does anyone know if the 6speed clutch line is the same n a b8 diesel etc.. if I was to get one of eBay for a template

I believe people replace it thinking it improves the pedal feel and imho I think it is more of a psychological thing rather than actual.

Imho, I think it is the uprated clutch that makes the difference, i.e. makes gear changes crispier, faster and more predictable. Most of the people who have changed the OEM lines to SSs have also bled the slave and again, which I think it contributes more towards the crispiness and smoothness in gear changes rather than because of just the break lines.

Also, you mentioned changing the slave, which imo should last longer and changed only if required. Do you notice any symptoms?

I am sure @xpoweruk will be able to give us his expert views on that too and might prove me wrong here :p

XP, correct me if I am wrong but isn't it a combination of slave bleed, clutch replacement and actuator valve removal which improves the gear changes on MTs rather than just the SS lines?

Pretty much. The delay valve burns the clutch out once the power is upped as it lets the clutch in too slowly

Yeh it's the removal of the valve that's the main change. Helps with premature clutch wear and stops the clutch riding after changes

Guys, thanks for this.

@Tashfeen from what i can tell is when im giving it the beans its sometimes doesnt change gear until i release the accelerator again and you can smell the clutch burning when normal town driving. the change to the slave cylinder was just a might as well do it thing. How can you tell if either the slave cylinder or the master needs changing?

@rizzini7 thanks for that i didnt notice it was for left hand cars only lol.

@xpoweruk you wouldnt know if @desertstorm did a write up on the removing the delay valve by any chance? Also forgive me if i get this wrong but by getting rid of the delay valve would that make the car jerky at normal town driving? i ask this as its my other half who gets to drive it most of the time.

Car will drive fine & shift faster

@yusuf7869 , It doesn't look like a slave problem but something else, i.e. pressure plate. I think it needs to be looked at to find out the exact problem, troubleshooting on these forums can be dangerous :)

I have removed the clutch delay valve on both the A4 and my MK1 TT . They are the same part despite the TT being 2001 and the A4 a 2008 car. In both it has improved the clutch action resulting in better , quicker changes.
I actually cut the one up to have a look in it.
Karls 3.0 TDI build thread

Heres the part I made up
Karls 3.0 TDI build thread

Changed it over. It's fiddly due to the location , It was a lot easier to get at on the TT.

Thanks @desertstorm. Will probably get this done when getting the clutch changed. By any chance do you make them for others?

@Tashfeen will do.

Will be posting pics up of upgraded interior lighting courtesy of @t8ups this weekend :).

It’s one of the little mods that makes the car look so much more premium I think. I did all of mine and the number plate lights pretty soon after getting the car. Good work
