Hello,

So i have just moved house and as a consequence need to change the address on my V5 paperwork.

I am however thinking of buying a new car currently (swaying towards a brand new Q3).

On top of this, I have a private plate i would need to remove when I sell.

Now i have been told that my private plate can be removed online when i buy my new car instantly, has anyone got any experience of doing this for a new/second hand car?

To change over my address it says up to 6 weeks, is this current likely? My new driving license took 2 days from ordering so if anyone has done this recently it would be useful to hear how long it took!

My concern is obviously without my V5 i can't sell the car, and I am wary of my private plate complicating things, but as I don't know when I would buy/take delivery I don't want to risk not transferring the address and get caught out.

I would prefer not to take the plate of yet just because i know CK will hit me for an admin fee for changing it followed by another £25/30 when I change cars, so ideally if I can do it all in one I would prefer to.

Thanks fo rany responses!

Yes you can do it online

All automated now , paper work takes around a week to arrive .

As for change of addrsss that's normally done in under a week

Don't think you can do address change online, you'll have to send off V5. They are pretty quick though, mine came back in about a week. You can than put your plate on retention online costs £80. When you have V5 for your new car you can swap the reg over online for free.
