Evening all. I'm after some recommendations for alloy wheel spray paints. I'm wanting to change the colour or the wife's alloys, after good quality but resalablely priced as I'll be doing a dummy run on a spare alloy I have laying around, practice makes perfect and all. Tia

Are looking to stay within the oem range of colours or something different all together, what colour car are you looking to change the rim colours.

No I'm after a primer and then either a matt black/dark gun metal gray or dark brassy gold colour. The car colour is silver

halford is not too bad for suitable wet based spray paints, just choose a color , and primer and finish with decent clear coat for hard wearing protection etc, if you prep well etc DIY job can be OK, but sometimes it can work out nearly as costly as getting them by a decent wheel refurber.
I experimented a few times on my spares etc and the cost does creep up to be honest.
By the time you have done 1 and like it , then buy enough paint , primer and clearcoat for the rest, then wet and dry etc and the time to do it all , is it really worth it .
I had my rims repinted by a so called pro refurber in Croydon , what a total dodgy trader, made a complete hash of them and charged me £180 for the job ( still chasing him for a refund aswell) .
Took them to a firm local to me and they did them properly and they look awesome.....and not too costly either.
Black chrome finish , looks fantastic on my black avant...bodywork paint is reflected on the rims , great effect.

Thanks I'm not too far from a Halfords. I thought it might be but I like doing things myself if you know what I mean, learning new things, also the pride or doing it myself. If I make a hash of it I'll take them to someone :grinning:. Yours look mint BTW. Hope you get your refund sorted.

no probs, it is all down to prepping etc , rush the job and it will look poor, take the time on them and good reults will be had.
Unless they are pretty poor do not attempt to strip them back yourself, it is a real mission of a job , I did as the previous layers had to come off .
also tried several color experiments which came out well , just colur wasn't right but finish was very good.

If your going back to bare ally anywhere the you need to acid etch before priming.

make sure it's paint designed for wheel use, a wheel flexes a lot under load so the paint needs to be able to cope with this or it will crack

For the cost and effort of doing it yourself I’d get it done professionally,

I never thought that there can be something in common between a scanner and wheel pants. But I recently found on https://www.palmgear.com/best-ocr-scanner-reviews/ that Fujitsu
Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i is a good scanner and I will explain to you why I bought it. You can obtain new interesting colors by scanning, it can sound strange, but It really works. I recently painted my car's wheels in a mate green-blue, and I obtained this color with this scanner. Hope someone will find my message useful.
