As promised in another thread, link, here is some pictures of my so called "Van".

For those that don't know what this is about: in Denmark when you order a car as a van you get a tax reduction from 150% to 50%. The car will then be rebuild to a van which roughly means you just have to get rid of the rear seats. I had no problem with this because we got two big dogs that have to travel with us sometimes and I really don't use the rear seats anyway.

So here is what it's all about - the specs can be found in my signature:

Note: the floor is not completely flat because of the B&O subwoofer. The subwoofer can be removed and the floor will be flat.

Actually looks alright as a van!

Wonder how it compares sound wise to a normal S3 Sportback with seats.

Let me put it like this: it's a lot more quiet than my previous car, a non van 2012 BMW f20 120d. On the even more positive side the exhaust note is really loud. So loud that I have decided not to get a resonator delete anyway. The pops and bangs goes right into the cabin and this is with only 700km on the clock. Looking forward to it to get even louder when I get some more km's on the clock.

Not that you're intending to do so...but would it be possible to convert the van back to a normal car? i.e. with back seats?

That is a really neat looking "van" with tons of storage, plus you can open either rear door for the dogs or ease of getting to your stored items .....a true estate car or shooting brake

Can you buy this kit from Audi? Or is it a retro fit to make it like this?

This would be good in my 3dr lol ;)

just needs a nice galvanised roof rack to complete the van look

@Lehn - Great looking S3 'van' buddy. Congrats !

It's great! I've enjoyed following this story, something a bit different.
Didn't you mention previously that you had to get the back doors sealed up or the back / side windows blocked out? Maybe my memory's going wonky! Lol

Am interested, not to do to mine lol. Are the rails bolted on or can they be taken out easily? It doesn't look like the back sears are just folded down but a little more more involved?

Yes it would but it's not something I would be able to do myself - or in other words it's not something I would dare to do myself :boxing:

Thanks! It's practical and fun - how much more can you ask for? And as you mention especially the part with getting the dogs in and out of the rear doors is great, both regarding scratches on the car and the elbows/joints of the dogs.

Unfortunately it's not a kit. The company which is specialised in turning normal cars into vans is chosen by Audi Denmark. They do the rebuild using a specific procedure (for it to be legal) but without any kits. I chose to pay extra to get a cover behind the passenger seat as well.

I actually considered that but I couldn't see myself using it and now I'm glad that I didn't get it :chuncky:

Thank you so much. I really don't know where the 27c came from, it was 14c outside when I took the picture. I think the weather here is pretty much similar to the weather in UK.

Glad to hear that mate! You're right - your memory is still working :whistle2:. As I mentioned somewhere in the other thread, the procedure is to remove the seats, remove seat belts, disable the windows open mechanisms and then mount a safety plate (or plates) behind the front seat (normally acrylic glass ). The bottom of the boot will be build up on a steel frame to be completely flat.

The rails can't be taken out that easily. The frame for the entire construction is glued onto the metal of the boot. The seats are completely removed and now stored in my shed. This makes it possible for me to make the same company which made the modification turn the car back to stock and make it easier to sell.

Took a quick snap for you guys of the boot. In the picture: bag with stuff for the dogs, orange straps, water for the dogs, blue bag, a blue plastic ball throwing thing for the dogs and the B&O subwoofer - does it get more practical? I think not!

(You can see the metal frame around the inside of the boot)
