Dear all

Panoramic sunroof:

* Opening/Closing speeds,
What is the safest speed while opening and closing the panoramic sunroof to avoid issues.

* Safe Driving speed,
What best and safest speed to drive while the Panoramic Sunroof is opened to avoid having issue with the panoramic sunroof.

I open mine up whenever I feel the need...stationary ..or otherwise.......I think the only occasions I feel forced to close up is because of noise...which can sometimes cancel out the tunes
1. Open/close - 0-70mph
2 As above

HOWEVER.......I opened mine yesterday at around 25mph.......only to be dumped upon by a bird with very accurate bombing skills.....shoulder and seat taking a direct hit......true story

That bird has skills hahahahaah lolz

I’m really concerd about the opening & closing because in my previous car a 2014 Mercedes A250 sport the Panoramic Sunroof had a fail and spoiled for some reason and the closest reason was I used to open and close at 86mph so that what spoiled the motor because of the wind hitting it. And told me that you can drive up 86 with it opened no issue

I stopped doing it in my S3 but little bit concerned that while driving is okai to drive up to 86mph

I wouldn't drive my car over 60 mph with roof open, the car will tell to close the roof at a certain speed as it's causing too much drag, best leave it tilted at higher speeds

Some people will tell you that's lucky.
Personally I've never considered it to be lucky as it only ever results in a horrible mess and I've never won the Euromillions!! lol

I open and close mine at any speed, I also have it open at 80mph and the car has never told me to close it.

Hahahaha or is there something wrong with yours??

red pill or blue?? ;-)

Honestly the warning comes up on DIS telling you Close roof excessive drag etc etc

I also open and close mine at any speed, and no message received.

Must be something wrong with your car!

I was referring to your clothes. Drag as in "Drag queen". :yes:

I got that mate, maybe all of the above should give there cars some mid range welly from 55mph to 80mph and you'll see the caution sign appear on the DIS

I cant see any benefit with that message, if it exist. The sliding glass panel will not come loose on my A3, not even at top speed.

Do we have the same message for the side windows?

I didn't notice any message when testing the wind noise in a A3 Convertible with folded roof.

Well there must be sensors fitted to the car for DIS to display this..... Obviously the tech boffin members that can prove this no longer frequent this forum as much @Rob2k68 am sure he would confirm my point on this as he's got the pano-roof

To be dead honest, I would never leave my pano in the open position above 40 mph, regardless of warning displays. Too much wind noise and the wind deflector/bug collector will take a beating at high speeds, including the sliding sun shade regardless of whether it is closed or open.

I open / close my roof at any speed but as many have said above, I tend to close it when above 60mph. The "drag" messages, and all other economic based DIS messages, can be turned off via VCDS and alike within the CAN Gateway if needed.

The DIS only gives you economical advice (close windows/sunroof, follow gear change, shift to neutral to use stop/start...) if you’ve got the DIS on the car section and are using the economical view. If you’ve got it on digital speedometer or reduced display then it won’t work :)

I don't keep mine open much above surface street speeds. It's not the roof itself I'm worried about, but rather the ****** pantyhose they used for the deflector. Don't care to have to clean bugs out of it...

The whole “panoramic” thing is a bit of a farce. The opening is marginally larger than what VWs and Audis have had for years. I much prefer the moonroof design of my A4 and A5 VWs, but... this one is fine overall.
